  1. The breath issue for me was definitely gluten; it did go away completely on a gluten-free diet. But it did take a couple of months. At the time I thought it was due to a sinus problem, but no, thankfully it wasn't. Still have sinus issues but no bad breath. Any GP can order a celiac blood test and it's not terribly expensive, but keep in mind, if the...
  2. I strongly feel that one can be gluten intolerant and be susceptible to many health problems and autoimmune diseases even after testing negative. I'm in the same boat and plan to eventually have genetic testing with Prometheus. That can give you a lot of info including if your children could be at risk. My advice to you or anyone, go gluten-free, be strict...
  3. I did have major nasal congestion and a dry cough (which others found very 'irritating') for years; these have not come back yet. It took several months but a gluten-free diet did take care of these also. Hope you have the same results.
  4. I'm on a Gluten Challenge, 6 weeks now, and my acid reflux is back with a vengence. I had minimal problems during my 2 yrs gluten-free. Did some searches yesterday and to me it appears that gluten is often the cause of GERD if one is gluten sensitive.
  5. Question: Will all siblings of a celiac share her celiac gene(s)? Trying to understand the genetics of the disease.
  6. Yes, here are the two I found. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  7. Yesterday I found info relating celiac disease and sacroiliac joint dysfunction. One study showed 64% of celiacs have sacroiliitis and another gave a 70% figure. I just about fell over, because my gastrointestinal symptoms began at about the same time as major SI joint problems. No hurry to respond, but would be interested to hear from others regarding...
  8. This is not a technical reply, but I've been searching for answers for the past few weeks and I stumbled onto Ron Hoggan's "Gallbladder Disease and Celiac Disease" here at Celiac.com. Very enlightening. My mother, sister and brother have all had gallbladder disease and an older sister is a celiac and has been gluten-free since infancy. Most of us, her...
  9. I've found a number of articles that say there's a strong relationship between celiac disease and gallbladder disease (and some of your other past or present symptoms but especially this one). Do a search; you'll find some interesting stuff that may be helpful.
  10. what will the HLA results show? I think the article at celiac.com, "Ten facts you need to know about celiac genetic testing" by Scot Lewey was really helpful to me. And there are others too. I'm waiting for preauthorization by my insurance company, but I'm still going to have a biopsy after a five-week 'gluten challenge' (after being gluten free for...
  11. The GI doc I saw today is having me eat gluten for just two weeks and then will do a gastroscopy. (Same as an endo?). Sounds better than 2-3 months, and I am going to do it, but I admit I'm a little uncertain about the short time period. He also will send a report to my insurance to see if they will preauthorize a genetic test. Will let ya'll know if two...
  12. Yes, she ended up with ulcerative colitis, stunted growth, is sterile and now osterporosis and diabetes! But she deals with it all very well. Now I have to learn from her; she's very strict with her diet and I have to watch better for that hidden gluten.
  13. Yes, thanks. I'll see what he has to say tomorrow. My gene testing would be more helpful to my family than me because I'm already convinced. I'll have to keep working on them. I wish doctors would test right away rather than tell people (like me) to try a gluten-free diet and see if problems are resolved.
  14. Went gluten free 2 yrs ago without a diagnosis. Now I'm not willing to do a gluten challenge as symptoms are too severe (IBS, severe gas, etc). My sister was diagnosed in infancy. But the doctors then thought she'd outgrow it and so she suffered a lot of damage until she went back on a gluten free diet as a young adult. I see a GI guy in a few days. ...
