ARCHIVED Am I Still Having Withdrawals?
CGally81 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm 28 years old, and had celiac symptoms since I was 27 (I probably had it silently before that for a while), and for the past 6 *months*, I've had some of what you described, plus lots of fatigue. I haven't been weak and shaky in the morning for the past 4 months or so, but in the past 2 months, I'd been getting lots of headaches (they're mostly cleared... -
My parents are pretty accommodating, knowing in many ways the severity of the problem. They recognize that I can't have trace amounts of gluten or casein. They let me cook my own meals my own way at times (tinfoil in the pot/pan to make sure that no gluten from previously gets in there), and they even made sure to keep the stuffing separate from the turkey...

ARCHIVED Constant Hunger Finally Going Away?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Skippy. I know it uses something made from soybean as an ingredient, but I have this peanut butter very frequently and haven't had problems. I've had gluten-free cookies that use soy as an ingredient and not had problems with them, so I don't think it was soy. But I have to wonder how a spoon with seemingly no gluten on it (I looked for specks of anything... -
ARCHIVED Constant Hunger Finally Going Away?

It's definitely casein intolerance, not lactose. I can't have yogurt. The symptoms are the same as gluten, and removing casein caused the same withdrawal symptoms as removing gluten. I'm not lucky enough to have lactose intolerance. I noticed that I have periods of feeling better, followed by feeling worse, so I don't know what to expect. My current luck... -
ARCHIVED Constant Hunger Finally Going Away?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Popcorn and brown rice are in my diet, so at least I didn't have to give up grains. My diet is really limited right now though. I want to gradually introduce new, non-gluten, non-casein foods. -
ARCHIVED Constant Hunger Finally Going Away?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope I'm getting better. Not long ago just now, actually, I ate peanut butter (out of my personal jar that no-one else uses) and a banana, and I used a spoon that I washed thoroughly under hot water. No risk of cross-contamination, right? Well, shortly after, I had to use the bathroom, but in a "liquid" kind of way, which was one of my celiac symptoms before... -
Ever since I went gluten-free in August 2009, I'd been having constant hunger that was just plain horrible. It slowly got better over time, but spiked up again when I removed casein (which I am also intolerant to). And I'd been having gluten and casein withdrawal symptoms. Over the past months, I'd also been feeling frequent headaches, and I'd feel very...

ARCHIVED Have Casein Intolerance Also - Should I Eat This?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks. I might try it, and if I get the symptoms, take L-glutamine, and never eat these again. So, when you have casein, do you have the same symptoms as when you have gluten, like I do (albeit in a more "lite" version)? -
ARCHIVED Any Way To Counter Act Gluten Once Accidentally Injested?
CGally81 replied to s-haas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd always taken L-glutamine. It definitely seemed to help. Chewable, gluten-free (of course), L-glutamine. It seems to stop the symptoms in less than an hour, even the "brain fog" symptoms. It can't hurt. It's only bad for you if you have kidney or liver problems, otherwise, it only has health benefits. The only side effect is that it's been known to... -
ARCHIVED Have Casein Intolerance Also - Should I Eat This?
CGally81 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have casein intolerance as well as gluten intolerance, something I learned when going casein-free caused me the same symptoms as gluten-free (same withdrawal symptoms and also a sharp increase in my "hungry all the time" symptom). Plus, early January, I noticed I was having "gluten symptoms lite" when eating foods like yogurt or popcorn with a milk ingredient... -
I had blood sugar drops after eating gluten, making me wonder why food made me more hungry after I ate it. But the thing is, after stopping, I became hungry all the time, rather than having individual blood sugar plummets.

My amount of hunger has been fluctuating day by day. I ate 2000 calories 4 days ago, but had to eat 3600 2 days ago, and was able to get by with 3000 yesterday. I didn't experience being hungry all the time until a week after I went gluten-free. (Note my signature) Could it be thyroid related anyway? I want this to end. I hate this condition and I hate...

I looked at the sheet he filled out, and it is the TSH he's testing for. I have another appointment a little over a month from now, so maybe I could ask him to check for more things then.

Celiac testing is absolutely terrible right now. I also tested negative for celiac despite having horrible (mostly neurological, plus some blood sugar related) symptoms when I eat gluten or casein. One thing I like to say, is that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, but tests negative for being a duck, then something's wrong...

ARCHIVED Great, So I Have Casein Intolerance Too
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am going to see a nutritionist soon, so we'll see what that person says. My hunger spiked after the removal of gluten, then the removal of the rest of the gluten (see my signature), then the removal of casein, then the removal of the rest of the casein. But it also had decreases followed by increases, then decreases again. Just 3 days ago, I was... -
I'm still looking for ANSWERS, since I tested negative by that dumb gene test (I don't have HLA DQ2 or DQ8? So what? Most people who suffer symptoms when they eat gluten don't have them either). But I did get at least one thing: validation. My regular doctor admitted he was stumped and sent me to the various experts he knew. He had me take a blood test...

ARCHIVED Great, So I Have Casein Intolerance Too
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, but tests negative for being a duck, then there's something wrong with the testing, and it's still a duck. Basically, I know that I suffer severe brain fog and blood sugar drops if I eat gluten, and now casein is causing the symptoms to a lesser degree. Plus, I developed fructose... -
ARCHIVED Great, So I Have Casein Intolerance Too
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are times when I do think that I'm comparatively lucky. For one, I was able to look on the internet and try to find out why I kept zoning out and being unable to concentrate, and "a gluten-free, wheat-free diet" was said to work wonders for people who had that problem, according to one website. I tried it, not knowing what gluten was, but knowing what... -
ARCHIVED Great, So I Have Casein Intolerance Too
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I may be casein intolerant as well, though. Eating casein started to give me the neurological symptoms of eating gluten, though on a lesser scale, plus headaches. I don't know if I'll be able to reintroduce it months later. I'll give casein a wide berth. Plus, it's been one full week since I removed casein, and my hunger spiked up. Very noticably. Not... -
ARCHIVED Great, So I Have Casein Intolerance Too
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wait, you are casein-intolerant? You might want to be checked. If you get hungry when you remove gluten, then maybe your body is addicted to it (especially if you're replacing gluten with other foods containing the same nutrients and your body still wants it). Anyone here who went through the "hungry all the time" phase able to let me know what to expect... -
ARCHIVED Great, So I Have Casein Intolerance Too
CGally81 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm going through the horrible (and most people don't suffer it) "hungry all the time" phase of going gluten-free. But I discovered that I tended to have headaches and start to zone out a bit after eating food that had milk ingredients. Including GLUTEN-FREE varieties of Chex (not all varieties contain milk ingredients). I can't even trust food labeled as... -
It turns out it might not have been the rice. Testing something out, I cooked a hamburger, and then brown rice, over an hour and a half apart. I had them separately, and even ate the rice right out of the ricemaker (just in case the problem was the bowl I'd used before), and didn't get the "zoning out" type effect casein seems to give me (and gluten gives...

My regular doctor admits that he's baffled (and I'm glad that he's honest - I've heard of many people who were given the "it's all in your head" dodge), so he's sent me to an allergist (I have an allergy to sesame, which I've probably never eaten in my life), a gastroenterologist (who wants me to eat gluten, or at least get an endoscopy to rule out other...

Ouch. I can't answer most of those questions! The chicken is totally plain. The rice comes from a simple bag - long grain brown rice. No seasonings or anything. The rice was made in a dedicated rice maker, used for nothing else. I don't know about the rest of the stuff.

Okay, I've discovered that if I eat casein, including in GLUTEN-FREE Chex, I start to zone out and lose energy somewhat, though not nearly as badly as with gluten. (Then again, I haven't had good sleep for the last week or so) Anyway, today I avoided casein foods, and didn't have that problem... until I had dinner. Chicken, apple sauce, and brown rice...
