  1. About 2 weeks after I went mostly gluten-free (not realizing that malt powder contained gluten, and thus eating something with gluten in it), the withdrawal symptoms set in. For me, they're muscle twitching, chills in my legs and forehead, itchiness, nausea in my throat, and having my chest be so sensitive I can easily feel the buttons on my work shirt as...
  2. A lot of people report that after they go gluten-free, they become hungry all the time, and it takes forever for the hunger to go away. That's what happened to me when I first went gluten-free in August. I was so hungry I had to eat like a full meal every hour or two. It gradually got better over time, and eventually became more tolerable, and manageable...
  3. Thanks for the links. I'd read the Wikipedia article before, but I didn't notice this interesting quote before: Most eager consumers of glutamine are the cells of intestines, the kidney cells for the acid base balance, activated immune cells and many cancer cells. So let's see, what could this mean? The intestines consume the glutamine, thus being healed...
  4. Months back, I discovered the joys of L-glutamine. People recommended it for if you get glutened, plus it's known for being able to repair the damage done to the gut, and it's an appetite suppressant. Though on the other hand, taking too much could result in it affecting the liver somehow, resulting it you having to go off it for a while. I noticed that...
  5. I had been drinking a lot of milk and eating a lot of yogurt before the headaches came, and so if it is casein, then I'm hoping that maybe I can handle some of it, just not a ton. Considering I'm in the "hungry all the time" phase of recovery, and the phase started when I first tried to go gluten-free (but continued to eat Fudgsicles as I didn't know that...
  6. Headache came back slightly (but not hugely) after eating dinner tonight. It was hamburger patty with no cheese, and brown rice. I think, therefore, that this is a "come and go" symptom. It is after all the symptom I had a powerful, nasty version of around the time I cut Fudgsicles out of my diet, that immediately began to decrease the next day, so therefore...
  7. Yeah, I do have some of that "lose weight later, just make my body happy now" mentality. Since I'm putting on muscle as well as fat, I could lose the fat later and keep the size 32 waist. The last time I weighed this much, I did NOT have a size 32 waist. In fact, looking through my old clothes, I was horrified to see a size 36 pair of pants that once fit...
  8. I know a lot of people say "I would never go back to eating gluten even if there was such a cure." I feel the same way myself. But it would mean I wouldn't have to bring digestive enzymes everywhere I might encounter gluten. It would help me live a more normal life, and maybe have the occasional birthday angel food cake. The current "cure" in development...
  9. That's not what I meant by hunger resurgence. The popcorn filled me up more and more as my overall hunger dropped. It got to the point where it could fill me for a few hours. By "hunger resurgence", I'm referring to how when I cut Fudgsicles out of my diet, in less than a week, my hunger spiked back up again to the point where I needed two massive evening...
  10. I might try it. I've had good experiences with popcorn in the past though, filling me up and actually helping quite well as an afternoon snack back before the hunger resurgence (when I cut out the Fudgsicles and saw my hunger rise again). But I could try going without it and finding replacements. I'm hoping this current hunger relapse is nothing more than...
  11. I tested negative for various food allergies, except I have a very slight allergy to corn. But too slight to be of real concern, apparently. I am not addicted to corn, and only eat popcorn (Act II brand - whole grain) since it appears to be filling. I feel like my hunger has gone up in the past few days. It's real upsetting. Is it because I'm getting more...
  12. I'm 5'6" and male. Well, I'm up to 190 pounds. I was 153 when I was at my lowest, feeling sick all the time from gluten, and no longer trying to lose weight, but losing it anyway. And having the constant blood sugar drops (caused by gluten), and the cravings that came with them. But since becoming hungry all the time, I have started to gain weight....
  13. Every test, including the DNA test, for celiac comes back negative. I appear not to have celiac, but take my word for it, I think you'd recognize the symptoms if I listed what happens if I eat gluten. I even gained 2 additional food intolerances (lactose intolerance and fructose malabsorption) while still eating gluten (both problems are mostly gone). So...
  14. I'll be relying more on peanut butter for a while, I know that. It seemed to help this morning. I only had popcorn and peanut butter for breakfast this morning, due to lack of time. But I didn't have too much in the way of serious morning hunger. Hunger problems showed up later (I had to eat only 2 bananas for lunch, due to having to leave quickly to be tested...
  15. When I first tried going gluten-free in August, I suddenly became really hungry. I became so starved all the time that I was eating nearly a full meal's worth of food every 1 or 2 hours, and was hungry even while I was full! It gradually got better over time. Then in mid-October, when my hunger was going down to more normal levels, I discovered that Fudgsicles...
  16. The headache issue is clearing up. I'm avoiding all calcium. That includes my multivitamin (which is nutrient and mineral filled!) as well as yogurt, milk, cheese and gluten-free Chex. Yes, I realize 3 of those 4 foods contain casein, so if my headaches are going away because of casein, well, I'll find out when I reintroduce those foods once I feel I've lowered...
  17. I went to an allergist, and he says it's likely that I have non-Celiac gluten intolerance. He says the "neurological" symptoms (brain fog, depression, after eating gluten) could be considered physical, and caused by non-Celiac gluten intolerance itself. I turned out negative for food allergies.
  18. I had muscle twitching as one of my gluten withdrawal side effects. It started to occur, then got worse and worse, then slowly started to get better, with relapses along the way. Now it rarely happens. I didn't turn out deficient for nutrients, but I still echo what everyone else says: get your nutrient levels checked, and take what you're missing. Also...
  19. If dairy is a frequent cause of headaches for many, not just Celiac sufferers, I may go "casein lite" instead of free. I'm going to an immunologist tomorrow, so I'll see if I have a problem with milk. A coworker of mine who has both lupus and Celiac was told by an immunologist to avoid gluten, milk and chicken. So we'll see if I'm also told to avoid milk...
  20. My family does take me seriously now, actually, even with the tests coming back negative. But I really want to know exactly what I have, so when treatments/cures for various things come out, I'll know what to get, to put a stop to this once and for all.
  21. I was getting headaches and fatigue with EVERY food I ate. Literally, every food. So it can't be just that. Anyway, I am cutting back on the calcium. I avoided calcium with dinner, and started to feel my headache start to recede later. I'm thinking that the 2.4x (and more on many days!) normal amount of calcium, when my blood calcium was already on...
  22. For the past week, I've had an on-and-off headache. On some days, it would get worse while or after eating, regardless of WHAT I ate. Now, the first time I noticed a nasty headache was when I first went truly gluten-free, by removing Fudgsicles, the last gluten-containing food I was still eating, from my diet. During that time, there were a few days in...
  23. This cure will benefit future generations too. But anyway, I don't intend to go back to whole wheat bread and toast. As an autistic individual, I can't have that stuff anyway; I noticed I felt less "urges" to say/do socially inappropriate things when I stopped eating it. However, it would be nice to not be paranoid about trace amounts of gluten that...
  24. Gluten ataxia - does that cause the "zone out and feel like a zombie and be unable to concentrate if you eat gluten" symptom? How about the blood sugar plummet? My symptoms are both neurological and gastrointestinal. I'm going through the "hungry all the time" recovery phase (it gets better and worse, though gradually better overall), and my withdrawal...
  25. The headaches are better today than yesterday. I ate the same foods as yesterday, and right now it's 30 minutes after a big cheeseburger and brown rice dinner, and while I don't feel perfectly fine, I don't have a nasty headache, only a dull one. What I did do differently, though, is drink a lot more water today. I think I may have found my solution....
