  1. Where did you find the pamphlets for teachers. My daughter will also be starting Kindergarden next year and I would like to be able to get ahold of that pamphlet. Thanks, Laura
  2. What ingredient in the ranch dressing packet has gluten? I am trying to learn what to look for and I don't have a packet in front of me and I have reviewed the ingredients everytime. Also Food Lion Pudding not gluten free- try Hunts I called there's is. That is what I get for thinking I could save some money. Laura
  3. This is a great thread. It has given me some really good ideas and I would like to share some of the things I have come up with. The one thing that I would like to say is that my daughter, who is 4, doesn't have any symptoms, so I might have some things listed that have trace gluten. She is also type 1 diabetic so some of my suggestions might include sugar...
  4. Heather, I'm not sure of the ingredients, but what about butter flavored shortning instead of the butter or margarine? I have never tried it, but it might work. Laura
  5. I love my Kitchen Aide, but before we purchased it I needed a hand mixer for meringue cookies. I bought a GE 200 Watt at Wal-mart for $11.50. It works great. I don't use it for breads, but I use it for cookies, muffins, etc. It has 6 speeds, nothing special and the price was right.
  6. I don't know if this will help. I have had to figuire out carbs for my daughter. Rice flour is about double what wheat flour is. It is 138.6g of carbs vs roughly 84 ( I don't have any reg wheat anymore). I haven't noticed it hitting her any harder. She is 3 so communication is sometimes limited. We do use more insulin but I am not sure if it is the new...
  7. Hi, My daughter has been diagnosed for about 1 month. I haven't bought any breads, but I have tried to make english muffins and pizza- two of her favorite things before Celaics. She thought they were disgusting. The one thing I have made though is a simple muffin recipe that I got from this website- in the baking section under cornbread and muffins. I have...
  8. I don't know if this will help anyone, but have you tried aloe vera. I am not sure what additives they put in the bottled stuff, but you could always get a plant and cut the stems and rub that on your skin. I don't have Dermatitis Hepetiformis, but it works wonders on sun burns. Laura
  9. Lucy, Thanks for the muffin recipe. They were good and my daughter enjoyed them. Laura
  10. Hi eveybody, My daughter was just diagnosed. She has no symptoms so she is fortunate in that case. She loves English Muffins. So to make a long story short, while making them I burnt out my little hand mixer. We are looking at investing in a Kitchen Aide because of the consistency of the doughs. What size motor seems to work? They seem to range from...
  11. Thanks Jodi, I am feeling much better now. I am trying new recipes and this board helps. Tons of great info. And Bette Hagman's cookbooks. Laura
  12. Thanks everyone. I am not really that down. I was just disappointed about the flavored yogurt and rice Krispies. My daughter has never had any symptoms of Celiacs, so it is hard for me to explain why she can't have gluten. She is 3. She is also diabetic. And I just worry about her and how she will handle it when she gets older. Thanks for all the encouragement...
  13. I don't even know where to begin. We found out last Wed for sure that she has Celiacs. She has no symptoms, we found out because of a standard blood test. I was doing ok with it until I called Dannon today to verify that there product is gluten free. I was very disappointed to find out that I had read the label wrong and missed the natural flavoring. I couldn...
