  1. That's the trouble I'm having too - gaining weight. I had lost alot of weight before my Celiacs kicked in (finally got down to a size I was happy with), then one of my symptoms was gaining weight and bloating. That's one reason my doctor (at least one of them) said I didn't have Celiacs because you are supposed to lose weight instead of gain weight and...
  2. Just curious if this has to do with Celiacs or not. Sometimes I'm just not hungry and so I don't eat dinner, but then I'll wake up in the morning with stomach pains as if I ate something with gluten. After eating breakfast the pains will usually go away in a few hours. I've been gluten free for about a year and half now, so I don't get many symptoms any...
  3. I could have got the two mixed up - guess I better clarify with the instructor tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.
  4. It's been a long time since I've posted here - but I'm in nursing school and we are studying Celiac Disease, which I felt I would be very knowledgable about since I've had it for 3 years now - haha. Anyways, our instructor told us that hydrogentated vegetable oil is another name for gluten. I wasn't aware of this and didn't see this on the forbidden list...
  5. I know that is so rough when finances are tight (or nonexistent). I wouldn't have been able to deal with my systemic candidas and celiac without my parents help. I started back to school when diag. and the medications and supplements and doctor visits were about $200 to $400 a month. My insurance only covered part of the costs. Try going on a very bland...
  6. Heather - unfortunately you haven't been gluten-free long enough for the symptoms to go away. I was on the gluten-free diet for about 6 months before my pain and nausea went away, although I still have flare ups from accidental ingestion. I still have problems with dizziness, although not as bad as before. I've been gluten-free for about a year now, but...
  7. Jenn, I feel for you - I think everyone here can. Wish I had an answer for ya, but dealing with the same problems myself. I'll keep watch on this thread for some good ideas. Been very careful to eliminate gluten from my diet, guess I need to check shampoos and such. I did check my makeup and it was fine. But not the soaps. Very frustrating. I can go...
  8. This isn't Kraft, but I called Yoplait yesterday about their natural and artificial flavorings to see if it was gluten based. They said that General Mills will always put wheat or grain products under the "contains" area of the package - they list any type of allergy ingredient in this area. The "contains" area is under the ingredients listing. Leslie
  9. My doctor did have a very strict regime for the Candida program as far as the medication went. She knew exactly what herb and what mineral to give and when according to how my body was reacting. That's why she had me come in every two weeks to monitor any reactions I was having and tweak the program. She did blood tests out the ying yang to keep the most...
  10. Hey there - newbie here unlurking and posting. I'm just learning about the disease and how to deal with it. Been sick for 2 years and deemed crazy by most doctors. Just recently diagnosised and not sure of foods or better yet the hidden stuff we can't have. What is the take on Natural and Artificial flavorings? I see where it is posted on the...
  11. Mel - my doctor is in Denton, Texas - a bit of drive for you in NJ - ha ha. When I broke out in hives I was trying a herbal medication (on my own) that was supposed to kill the Candida. I thought the doctors plan was taking to long (you know the instant society we live in). I broke out on my stomach first, then around my back, up my neck to my face, it...
  12. Yes, it was very dibilitating for me - I couldn't walk across a room without having to sit and rest. But I kept plugging away, which my doctor said was literally killing me. The Candida, if gone untreated, will get into your system (which I had systemic Candida) and will start destroying your organs. Mine had damaged my thyroid which is why I was so tired...
  13. Hi Pebs - I'm new to the list and today is the first day I've start posting - been lurking for some time trying to learn all I can. I've had Candida and Celiac as well, but the Candida is finally under control. It took me almost a year to get rid of it and about half my life savings - ha ha. My doctor put me on a rotation of medications (almost all herbal...
  14. I'm new to this list and have never posted - just lerking and learning what I can. Been dealing with Celiac for 3 years now and only diagnosed in November 04. I know exactly how you feel, this is what I feel when exposed, but what does help me with the burning stomach is to take L-Glutamine powder, one scoop in the morning and one scoop at night - mixed in...
