  1. Grapeseed oil is okay, but a bit too expensive for regular use and it's hard to get around here. I have had it though. Coconut I can't have. I haven't got a nut allergy that I know of, I eat many nuts, no problems, but for some reason coconut oil isn't something I can tolerate. It can give me hives if I eat something with it.
  2. I've been lactose intolerant for years, but I still need to drink the odd vitamin enhanced shake. Milk shakes tend to overwhelm me and make me ill. Lactaid pills or no Lactaid pills, I have to take like 4 just to be able to manage one so I finally did the supposedly healthy thing last year and switched to a soy based shake. One day of soy based, milk...
  3. Oh yeah!!!! That was the hardest part of this first month for me. I did try a Bob's Mill pancake mix, and two gluten-free pantry bread mixes but they were awful and I just ended up wishing I'd saved my money! Udi's isn't something I can afford but I am looking very hard at buying a sample case from Chebe to try this month. I don't want to get too dependent...
  4. I have had almost the same bad gut reaction to canola oil that I have to soy, which is for me a major cause of stomach distress, DH, the usual. I started looking on the labels for it and I was amazed at how many things it's in. It's like soy oil. They use it in so much you almost can't get away from it unless you shop only in health food store and even then...
  5. My health plan sucks so when I asked to be tested for celiac disease they told me "no" pretty much. Said it wasn't covered. My doctor though she just told me to try the diet for 3 months and see what happened. I do have a lot of weight on and it's been pretty bad trying to lose any of it. I have some big issues with the hormones. I'm 4 weeks in and I...
  6. This is my first month going gluten free and appetite and weight-wise I have to admit it's been a wild ride. I've only slipped up twice. So far so good otherwise. First few weeks I was just STARVING though. That's actually odd because although I do have some excess poundage I don't have much of an appetite normally. It's always amazed me that I did gain...
  7. Anyone who doesn't think that overeating certain foods can cause major problems including addiction has never been addicted themselves to a food. I have always had problems with Coca-Cola and chocolate in particular. It's probably the caffeine or the sugar, I've never been sure which, but my addiction to both goes way beyond it being a comfort food issue...
  8. I tried the Bob's Mill pancake mix for the first time this month. I'm new to a gluten-free diet. I'm trying it on my own because my doctor thought I might be sensitive but my medical plan doesn't really cover the cost of such tests. I figured it can't hurt so earlier this month when I went shopping I nixed the normal bread etc, and bought a couple of bread...
