  1. Megan - Seattle is an area of great natural beauty. Water, mountains, forests, as well as a very cosmopolitan city. Terrific ethnic diversity, which I love, especially for the food. Not that I've been able to indulge in much of THAT, lately... Also some pretty decent small theater, which I like, though not nearly as much as in LA, with all those marginally...
  2. Well you know, Detritus (such an unfortunate name, may I call you "D"?), if the richest man in the world lives here (sadly, it's not ME ;-), it must have something to offer On the other hand, I've spent quite a lot of time in LA. What part of the city do you live in?
  3. Your headache history sounds very similar to that of my soon to be ex-wife, though she is not yet menopausal. She has taken just about everything for them, including all the triptans (like Imitrex) and generally got the most relief from Zomig (also a triptan). Unfortunately, this category of drugs is well known for producing rebound headaches; the more...
  4. And there's no point living in the past. Ever been to Seattle?
  5. Tiffany - They have 2 locations in Bellevue, haven't been to either in a couple years, but I know we generally preferred the one on Lake Bellevue. Definitely check out Hanami if you're ever up this way. I have no idea as to the gluten implications, but I can tell you their rolls are very nice!
  6. I was just looking at the label of a bottle on San J Organic Tamari Wheat Free Soy Sauce I bought today, and it says it's "Made in a plant inspected by the Gluten Free Certification Organization" Open Original Shared Link Haven't check out the site in any depth, but it might be interesting/of use.
  7. I still have no firm diagnosis of my gut issues, could be Celiac, could be an IBD variation, could be gamma rays from the planet Flatulus, so far I have no idea, but in the process of cruising a number of forums like this one on the applicable subjects, it seems like there is a higher than expected number of people from the Pacific Northwest in general, and...
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep them in mind. I've had Sushi in most of the large urban areas of the US, and Seattle is a great city for it. Best place I tried when we lived in Bellevue was the unfortunately named "I Love Sushi". Went to a hole in the wall place in the International district whose name escapes me which was also very good, and it...
  9. Putting on an act? The woman should get an academy award. If she was miserable the 1st 8 years of our life together, all the memories (not to mention photos) I have of her smiling and laughing sure would seem to suggest otherwise. But if she was truly unhappy for all or even just a significant part of that time, and said nothing, nor made any efforts to...
  10. Seattle has a huge Asian population, so I figured I'd be able to find the San J. Went to the local Ranch 99 (a chain of large, Asian supermarkets Open Original Shared Link ) they must have had 400 kinds of soy sauce, but of course, they were Sans San J! But I did find a bottle. At Safeway! Can't wait to try it, haven't had any soy sauce in about 3 months...
  11. Of course sashimi is gluten free, being just fish, but I generally prefer the sushi rolls. Are these generally a gluten issue? Depends on the sauce(s) the chef applies, I imagine. Any tips? TIA David
  12. Thanks for the replies, I'll look for it tomorrow.
  13. Particularly one that might be available locally (Safeway, QFC, etc.)? TIA David
  14. BK, He needs to meet my wife. Sadly, they're more the norm than the exception. "I’m a Spalding Gray in a Rick Dees world" I'm not sure who Rick Dees is, but you know what happened to Spalding... David
  15. I agree completely. I very much miss the person I THOUGHT my wife was, but certainly not the woman she turned out to actually be. Had I a one-shot magic wand, and I could either restore her presence in my life, or my health, well, it's a no-brainer, isn't it? David
  16. Thanks, Patti. It is good to express one's frustrations to people who can relate. I have been trying no gluten (even the weird little "ingredient" bits), for nearly 3 months, no real improvement yet. Last Saturday, I added dairy, so we'll see how that goes. I think medicine is a bit like insurance. People who have never attempted to "make a claim...
  17. I'm in a similar situation, recent onset (little over a year) trying to figure out if it's celiac, IBD, etc. I have #3 to an extent. The bottom of my right big toe feels as if there's a layer of padding permanently attached to it when I walk, compared to the sensations of the other digits. Just slightly numb. Oddly, it's only like this in response to...
  18. I've had intestinal symptoms which I've posted about on this site 1st here and 2nd here. I was hoping against hope it was Celiac, since that's at least something you can DO something about, but I went to my 3rd GI doc this past week, and he initially at least is leaning towards an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Has me on Pentasa at the moment, too soon to...
  19. Thanks for the replies on this, very enlightening. I'd like to hear from more people about their experiences after diagnosis. TIA David
  20. They did check for potassium in the metabolic panel, but not for any of the others; I'll definitely ask about that. I did try the digestive enzyme drug "Pancrease" for a short while, seemed to have no effect. Please let me know if you have any other observations. Thanks David
  21. Sue - The test results on the ova & parasite aren't specific as to species, they just say "No ova and parasite seen". No mention was made of food allergies, though the Elisa test does include a normal result for "ASCA IGA" & "ASCA IGG", both normal. Can you please elaborate on the specific tests that you mention in your last 2 sentences? Thanks...
  22. I've been having some GI symptoms for the past 14 months (see this POST) which I think may be celiac. After reading some experiences of others with the condition, I hear everything from "I quit eating wheat and felt great in 4 days" to "It took me a good year to feel better". What is more normal in this regard? I have stopped consuming all gluten (paying...
  23. I posted about a week ago about my 14 month odyssey into GI hell, and my suspicions about possible Celiac. A description of my symptoms is in this 1st post Over the last year, I have seen 2 gastroenterologists. I have an appointment with a 3rd in about a week, and I want to be sure I request anything which has not yet been done. So far, I have had the...
  24. Nora - I have read a bit about Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). If anyone here has had any particular experience with that, I sure would like to hear about it. One other thing: Again, this condition came on quite suddenly, with no prior symptoms of this type of any duration, ever in my 50 years. It really strikes me as some sort of microorganism...
