    I can't speak for Fenway but, I've been to Jacobs Field 3X this year and it's just a good idea if you bring your own food. That way you don't have to worry about any ingredients or cross contamination, etc.

    Most ballparks will allow you to bring in a soft cooler so I packed some sandwiches, crackers and fruit. As long as you don't have any cans or bottles you shouldn't have a problem. I know this doesn't help for wanting a hot dog at the game but, it's better safe than sorry.

  2. I think it's a combination of being Celiac and a Psychological thing. We are limited in the things we can eat so I tend to obsess about or enjoy a particular item (Rice Pudding for example) for several days at a time. It then manifests itself into an emotional state (almost like a protest) against everything we can't have anymore. I know I am doing it but must allow myself a few days to get the emotion out of my system before coming back down to earth.

    Personally, when I am feeling well is the most dangerous time for me because I then want to wander and eat different foods (gluten-free foods but things I haven't eaten in a while). Last week it was Ice Cream. I have learned (the hard way) that I need to steer the straight-and-narrow course until my intestine heals up.

    I've noticed a drop-off in my athletic ability. Before I got sick with celiac disease I was playing men's fastpitch baseball. I decided to take this year off as I didn't think I had the energy to play 9-inning games. I don't really get tired but, I've noticed that if I do too much I get light headed a bit and have to sit down.

    I do walk a lot and bicycle some as well. I have been playing co-ed softball 1x per week and so far I've faired pretty well. I think I'm still recovering and slowly getting better (Knock-on-wood) so I hope to see my energy level pick-up some and start doing more physical activity.

    Don't fret.....Slip-ups happen to all of us. This past weekend I almost ate a piece of hot dog bun at a cookout. I realized after I put the piece in my mouth and spit-it-out. So-far I'm not showing any negative signs from my near-miss.

  7. Huge Baseball fan......GO TRIBE! (I also like the Cubbies).

    College Football = OU Bobcats & OSU Buckeyes (Can't watch Pro Football Anymore After the Browns Left in '95....sellout jerk Modell!)

    Hockey = NY Rangers (They stink but it goes along with rooting for underdogs like the Indians and Cubs).

    I also enjoy playing basketball (Although I HATE Pro-Basketball), baseball & softball.

  8. My experience with celiac disease and going to the Doctor is that I have come to learn what an un-exact science medicine is. I always thought with all the technology etc. that medicine was more specific in its diagnosis and treatments....Wrong. This seems especially true when dealing with celiac disease!

    Your best bet is to listen to what your body is telling you because nobody knows you like you do.

  9. I have gastritis, acid reflux and celiac disease. I think they are all inter-related based on the damage in the small intestine. If you think about it the food isn't being properly digested and is causing your digestive system to work harder. All that extra stress (and gas) leads to more problems which brings about the GERD and gastritis in the stomach.

    Hang in there.....it takes time but you will start to feel better.

    I too was experiencing problems after eating gluten-free bread (or pancakes, etc.). I read somewhere that starches and complex sugars are the hardest things to digest (for those of us who are still recovering) so I have pretty much eliminated them from my diet.

    Try staying away from rice and other starches and see how you feel. I do better with less carbs and more protein and it's the best I have felt since going gluten-free.

  12. Hello all newbies.....

    I have been gluten-free since December 2004 and was wondering how other newbies feel on a day-to-day basis?

    It has taken me 5-months of being on the gluten-free diet before I have seen any kind of real improvement and even then it's not an everyday occurrence. I still have the occassional unexplained days where I just don't feel that great. I have taken the York Labs FoodScan test and am awaiting the results to see if I am allergic to anything else I am eating (They are very slow at that place!).

    Rate your overall health based on the following scale and let's see where the numbers fall:

    1 = I Feel Lousy

    2 = I Feel So-So

    3 = I Feel Okay

    4 = I Feel Fine

    5 = I feel Good/Normal

    For me April was a 2. I had some other stress in my life as I was broad-sided by a woman who ran a red light and totaled my Van (Thank You God for lettimg me and my kids walk away unharmed).

    May has seen an improvement and I would rate it 3+ (And I pray that I continue to show improvement).

    I use products from Dr. Shulze's line of herbal remedies. You can find them at www.herbdoc.com (1-800-HERB-DOC).

    The liver/gallbladder flush is a liquid supplement that you add to water and drink 2-4 times a day. It taste's terrible but otherwise I have had no other ill effects from it. It contains Milk Thistle Seed, Dandelion Root, Oregon Grape Root, Gentian Root, Wormwood Leaf/Flower, Black Walnut Hull, Yellow Ginger Root, Garlic Bulb & Fennel Seed.

    I did a colon clense when I first got sick (before I knew I had celiac disease) and I think it does help. I also believe in drinking a lot of water to flush your system out. I have read up a bit on natural/herbal healings and they (herbalist Dr's) say that it all starts with the colon. I think if your system can handle it and you feel okay....go for it.

    Right now I am doing a liver/gallbladder flush as I have read theories where the blood of celiac disease people is carrying too much undigested particles and can cause the liver/gallbladder to work too hard and possibly back-up and store toxins. I seem to be feeling better these last 2-weeks (knock-on-wood) and hope it continues.

  15. All these symptoms sound like Celiac Disease. There are over 200 different symptoms and each person is different in what they exhibit. The lack of energy or fatigue are classic celiac disease symptoms. The trouble concentrating and attention problems are related to Celiac as well.

    Call your Dr. and get a blood test done against Celiac and see what comes up.

    I prefer Tinkyada Pasta for my macaroni but whatever brand you choose is fine. I use Helmann's Mayo, French's Mustard, Hard Boiled Eggs, Celery, Purple Onions, Black Olives, Pepperoni, Salt, Pepper and Paprika. All these imgredients can be used to your liking or substituted for others you might like better. Also, depending upon how creamy you like your macaroni salad will determine how much Mayo you use. Cook the pasta, cool it under cold water & drain real well. Mix everything together in a large bowl and Enjoy!

    You might want to look into going to your local library and checking out some gluten-free cookbooks (By Bette Hagman). This way you start to become comfortable with gluten-free foods and don't spend money on something you might not enjoy later. And, if you really find some recipe's you like you can copy them down or buy the book later.

    Also, a lot of grocery stores are starting organic sections which contain gluten-free items as well. At my local grocery store I can get gluten-free cereal, gluten-free pasta, gluten-free cookies, gluten-free soups, rice cakes, tortilla chips, almond milk, soy milk, etc., etc.

    It does seem very overwhelming at the beginning but over time you will become more comfortable with shopping and eating gluten-free.
