If you suspect a liver or gallbladder problem you could try doing a liver/gallbladder flush. I bought such a thing from Dr. Shulze's line of herbal remedy products and it is supposed to flush-out toxins from your liver/gallbladder and blood. People who have had these type problems swear that they go away after taking this product (even those who were slated for surgery).
Try visiting www.herbdoc.com or call 800-HERB-DOC.
Best of luck!

Jennifer,
I get the chest ache on the left pectoral leading down into my armpit. Most of the times it is just an ache but occassionally I will get a momentarily sharp pain. I went to the doctor and wore a heart monitor and everything is normal. I take my BP daily (which is good) and exercise regularly and have never been short-of-breath (This is how I double-check myself each day). I guess it's just something some of us have to live with.
Hope this helps.

A few possible thoughts on the cod......
Some people are allergic to white fish?
Maybe you just got a bad batch (Bacteria, etc)?
Perhaps it came into cross-contamination with something?
Was it cooked in a vessel that may have had traces of gluten in it?
I have been eating baked cod quite a bit over the past 4-5months and have not had any problems. I enjoy the mild flavor and it's a good source of protein.
I hope you feel better!

Thanks everyone...You people are awesome! It's comforting to know that I am not alone in my symptoms. This forum is very much like therapy for me and I appreciate all your input.
I have elevated my bed and don't eat anything after dinner to prevent acid build-up at bedtime. I hope to be able to get on top of the gastritis/reflux and eliminate a few symptoms and start feeling better.
Thanks again and Best of Luck To Everyone!

Not having a reaction to eating oats or other gluten food does not indicate it's safe. Damage is being done on the inside regardless of symptoms and over time will get to the point where symptoms/reactions do occur. I had no symptoms at all for 36-years and then boom......I'm Celiac.
I used to make Monster Cookies and would love to eat them again but, it's a gamble and for me it's just not worth the chance.
Best of Luck!

I have taken the test (actually twice as they lost my first sample) and am awaiting the results (They are very, very SLOW!).
I was wondering the same thing......If something else that I am eating is keeping me from feeling better and possibly slowing down the healing process. I hope to find out soon.
Best of luck!

Hello to any/all celiac disease Patients who also have Acid Reflux and Gastritis (As I Do). I am interested in finding out how you feel on a day-to-day basis?
I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux in Aug. '04.....Gastritis and celiac disease in late November and have been gluten-free since early December.
My typical day is like this....Usually I don't feel as well in the morning. I wake up some mornings and as soon as I sit-up in bed the belching starts. I take Prevacid for the Acid Reflux in the morning and eat breakfast about 1-hr later. It's tough to eat some mornings as the thought of food just isn't apetizing. But if I don't eat I then end up feeling shakey/jittery which is no fun either.
Some mornings the gas/belching isn't present or goes away after a while. Other days I"ll have it all morning. I generally feel better in the afternoons, though. I eat lunch and then go for a 20-30 min. walk after eating. Evenings seem to fall in line with how my day has gone up till then. If I feel well in the afternoon then the evening is usually trouble-free. If the morning turns into a bad afternoon then the whole day is usually a wash.
I have been taking Pepto Bismol pretty regularly lately to get relief from indigestion and to settle my stomach. Even though I know I am eating gluten-free my stomach seems to be acting up lately.
My General Symptoms:
If I eat something one day and then try to eat the leftovers the next I never do as well the second day.
I get indigestion and gas bubbles (With lots of Belching).
I get stray gas pains in my back, armpit and pectoral areas.
Sometimes a slight tingling sensation (a few seconds) in between my shoulder blades.
Some light headaches (Not too often).
Always knots and muscle tension in my shoulders.
Occassional anxiety or panic attacks.
And my newest and scarriest symptom has been light palpatations (1-2 seconds) after eating or in response to gas/belcing.
I went to the Dr. and wore a Halter Monitor for 24-hours but of course Murphy's Law says that I felt good that day and didn't have any palpatations or my usual symptoms. Like most doctors mine started preaching about stress, etc. and prescribed anxiety medication. I am awaiting the offical results but I feel like anxiety medication is just trying to cover-up the symptoms instead of fixing the cause.
Can anyone out there relate? Does anyone share these same symptoms? How do you feel on a day-to-day basis?
Please respond & Thanks for listening to me vent......

I have eaten at Red Lobster and didn't have any problems. I told my server the reason why I was asking so many questions and had her double-check a few items before ordering (Stay away from the soup as they use a roux when making the Clam Chowder). I ended up eating a salad (no crutons) with Olive Oil, Baked Shrimp Scampi, Baked Scallops and a Baked Potato.
There is always a risk of cross-contamination when eating out but I had an enjoyable lunch at Red Lobter and felt fine afterwards.
Best of luck!

Anyone know if Klondike Bars are gluten-free? I saw a variety that has Hershey's Chocolate (which we know is gluten-free). Just curious if anyone has eaten these?
Thanks,

Definitely Yes! It does get better over time with being on the gluten-free diet.

I have had a taste for chicken wings and was looking at the frozen bag in our local Giant Eagle grocery store and noticed the ingredients say up to 15% broth added. I then started picking up other frozen chicken items and they say the same thing.
I know everyone is different in how they react but has anyone eaten these things and what happened to you? Any reaction?
I have been accidentally glutened 3x in the last month so I am re-dedicating myself and not taking any more chances. Your input is welcomed.
Thanks!

You can also try Melatonin which you can find at your local health food store. It won't put you to sleep but once you fall to sleep it helps keep you relaxed and can help you sleep better.
Start by taking one 3mg capsul about 1/2 hour before bed. You can take up to 4 capsuls max but note that some people have to switch varities of Melatonin before seeing the benefits (each persons system is different).
Best Of Luck!

It's tough when you're not feeling well but, the only thing you can do it wait it out. Time and being gluten-free are the only thing that is going to make us better. As you have heard each person is different so the healing times vary.
Personally I didn't see much improvement until 3-months and I'm still not feeling 100%. Everytime we have a slip-up it sets you back some and delays the healing. I was glutened twice in a span of 8-days recently which meant that I spent about 2 solid weeks feeling lousy. I am just now starting to feel somewhat better.
If you don't take vitamins I would suggest you get some sort of multi-vitamin (make sure it's gluten-free). I take lots of vitamins as well as drinking homemade fruit & vegetable juice. I also drink Boost just to make sure I'm getting all the vitamins & minerals I need. Also, you might consider any other allergy possibilities. Keep a food log and see if you react to eating other things.
Hang in there. Brighter days are ahead of us!

I get the fatigue, dizzyness and heart racing sometimes too. I haven't quite figured out what causes the symptoms but it is usually in response to something I've eaten. I took the York Lab FoodScan test and am awaiting the results (They are very slow!) to see if I am alergic to anything else beside gluten/wheat.
It's real easy to think positive when you are feeling well but, try and keep your chin up when times are tough. Try and keep your focus on the ultimate goal of healing your intestine's and hopefully in time you will see improvement and feel better.
Best Of Luck!

A timely question for me! I have been sick the last week from 2 different gluten episodes and I was wondering the same thing.
I've had a few palpatations I think from getting glutened. I've noticed that my heart rate does go up but my blood pressure stays pretty normal. I've also noticed that when my gastritis is acting up then I get a stray beat. I can feel the gas bubble coming on and the stray beat makes me panic for a second or two but It goes away.
Best of Luck

I say get the CAT scan. If it shows something then at least you know and can take steps to overcome it. If it comes up negative then that's one less thing for you to worry about.
Best of Luck!

I used to be a Pepsi drinker but got off the cola's because basically they are empty calories. If I have one now I feel the caffeine rush and the carbonation effects the gastritis in my stomach.
Could you possibly have slight gastritis too?

I found out after going gluten-free that I am MSG sensitive. I get the shakes and a general off-feeling that takes about 1-hour to pass. I avoid MSG as best I can.

"It's alright to cry and get discouraged. Although it might not feel like it now, you're gaining strength and knowledge everyday and this board can help you through the days when you forget that."
This is one of the best quotes I have read on this forum. It sums-up pretty much how all of us feel at times. We all get frustrated and tired and wish for the old days when we could grab whatever to eat and not think twice about it. But unfortunately we can't live like that anymore.
Living gluten-free is like running in a marathon race. You must keep your eyes focus on the finish line which is a long ways off. The short term (mile-after-mile) daily life is difficult but once your intestine heals and you are feeling better you won't think so much about the sacrifices anymore. Besides, the alternative to being gluten-free is so scary that it's not worth living that life anymore.
Keep your chin-up and hang in there!

I was taking Prevacid and Lexapro but I'm off both. I now take Zantac as needed and the Lexapro made me feel like I was in a fog so I only took it 3-4 before I stopped. Basically I have learned to live with the symptoms and control my anxiety.
Best of Luck!

My diagnosis also started off as Acid Reflux. I was on Prevacid for 5-months which took care of the heartburn but I was still feeling lousy. That's when I had the Endoscopy and they found the Celiac.
I now take Zantac as needed and try to stay away from acidic & hard to digest foods. I know the chest feeling you describe and also thought in the beginning that it was my heart. But, I've always felt relief from taking either Pepto Bismol, Zantac or Imodium Maximum Strength GasAid which takes away the bloating, full feeling.
I also get relief by taking walks after I eat. I think it helps with digestion. Finally, I sleep with the head of my bed raised 6-inches to help keep the stomach fluids where they belong.
Best Of Luck!

I would like to please know what brands of shampoo people are using? I don't want to be using one that has gluten in it. I had one that said wheat protein and I threw it out but the ingredient list on most bottles makes no sense to me and I haven't gotten very good answers from any of the places I have called.
Thanks!

I think I was a silent celiac person. For 36-years I ate whatever and whenever I wanted. I had a few small bouts of stomach issues or the big D but nothing too frequent. Then a case of food poisoning hit me last August and everything came to a boil as they say.
I feel that Gluten is harmful to a celiac disease patient no matter what the reactions/symptoms are. Your body doesn't digest it and the immune system suffers from it. Personally I don't see any rationale to cheating on the gluten-free diet when the associated risks are so high. Cancer, etc. is nothing to gamble with. Keep your chin up and stay the straight and narrow is the best thing you can do for yourself (and your family).
Best Of Luck!

I just bought both the original and smokey maple Annie's BBQ sauce at our local health food store. They were actually having a sale on it so I stocked up for the summer BBQ season. Both bottles are clearly marked Gluten Free.......
