ARCHIVED Mary Kay Eyesicles Vanilla
melblondin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all - Just wondering if any of you could take a look at this ingredient list and tell me if it is gluten free. Everytime I use this product my eyelids get red and they burn - trying to figure out if there's a gluten derived ingredient in it or if it's something else that I'm reacting to. Here's the list and thanks in advance!!!! Ingredients Cyclopentasiloxane... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Bloodwork False Neg.?

Just really curious to see how often celiac serum screening is false negative. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
melblondin posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all - I was diagnosed yesterday as celiac based on symptoms and genetic testing (positive for DQ2.5 heterozygous). I had already been eating wheat free and mostly gluten free for the past 2 months as a result of a wheat allergy, but am becoming aware of all of the hidden sources of gluten that I now need to be aware of. Yikes!! This is going to be... -
ARCHIVED New And Not Sure
melblondin replied to leikela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just as a follow-up, I tested positive for DQ2.5 heterozygous, so based on symptoms and genetics, I am newly diagnosed as celiac. On the one hand, I'm breathing a sigh of relief that we have answers, but on the other hand I'm still in a little bit of shock. Not that I'm necessarily surprised that I have it, but overwhelmed by the ramifications that the... -
ARCHIVED New And Not Sure
melblondin replied to leikela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow - for what it's worth, my story is almost identical to yours. My top symptoms are chronic fatigue and constipation, even after being on thyroid meds for hypothyroid I am still very, very tired. I have a lot of the same digestive issues and I have a history of having a very low basal body temp. and my body just shuts down on occasion and I get clammy... -
ARCHIVED Nursing Infant Won't Sleep.

katerzz, if you don't mind me asking, can you share what some of the symptoms of your 19 month old were before diagnosis? I'm wondering if celiac is the underlying issue and why my son wasn't tolerating the milk or if it's simply a milk sensitivity with nothing more going on. Just trying to figure it all out. Thanks! -

Let me just add that I totally agree with NicoleBeth in that if you can eliminate the dairy from your diet and keep nursing that would be ideal. We just bought a little bit of formula as a quick test for our son to see if that's what the problem was, since we knew it would take time for the dairy to leave my system, but then we all got very sick and my body... -

Sorry to hear about your little one It sounds a lot like a milk allergy/sensitivity to me, which could be a separate issue from the celiac but it sounds like they're often times related. I would try cutting milk products from your diet or trying Similac Alimentum formula. It's hypoallergenic and made for kids with food allergies. We just realized (as... -
ARCHIVED Height Or Weight
melblondin replied to melblondin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for your reply. We've kind of wondered what's been going on, but I'm also pretty small, so I know I'm not going to have huge kids or anything like that, but he went from the 80th percentile at 3 mths., down to the 65th or so at 6 mths., then to about the 20th at 1 year and maintained that percentile until now at 5 years where he's dropped to the ... -
Hi all - We're in the process (although the wheels seem to be moving very slowly) of trying to test for celiac disease in our family and one of my questions is should I be more concerned about my kids' height, weight, or both as far as celiac is concerned? Both of my boys, now 5 and 3, started falling off the growth curves around 12 - 18 months,...

Hi all - I just need a place/moment to vent because I'm at my wit's end. My 9 month old spits up like CRAZY and I feel like I'm going crazy. I went through 3 receiving blankets within about 20 minutes because of all his spitting and then yesterday when I fed him bananas (one of the very few solid foods that he seems to tolerate okay) he spit up just about...

ARCHIVED Really Long Naps
melblondin replied to melblondin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh wow - thanks so much for your response. I've been thinking all these behaviors were linked and like I said, I suspected celiac, but didn't know if I was just being crazy. I think I'll keep him on gluten just until his check-up this month and then regardless of what the test and/or doctors say, like you did, I'm just going to take him off gluten and see... -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Gluten Intolerant Without Having Celiac?
melblondin replied to passionfruit877's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also think you should find a new doctor. I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy two years ago by a scratch test as well as by a little injection under my skin and I was also taken by surprise since I've been eating wheat my whole life. The way that he explained it to me was that our bodies are like buckets and they can fill so far with allergens before... -
ARCHIVED Overreacting?
melblondin replied to melblondin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so with you on trying to figure out the root cause of these issues instead of just covering them up with meds. I also feel like I've been on my own for the most part doing the research and trying to piece it all together and push for different tests and things. I'm anxious to get to his well-child check-up so we can get the ball rolling and figure this... -
Hi everyone - I am looking into getting bloodwork done again on my 3 year old at the end of April. His test was "inconclusive" at his 2 year checkup, so we were sent to a GI and he pretty much blew us off and told us to just feed him a high fat/high protein diet (I think at that time he was in the 5th percentile). At any rate, I am wondering if any of...

ARCHIVED Overreacting?
melblondin replied to melblondin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the encouragement!!! My gut certainly says that something isn't quite right, but it's hard to press on sometimes, especially when family members think I'm crazy and just "looking for something to be wrong." Yeah - I can relate to the spit up. Our little one spits fountains from one feeding to the next and that's like a 4 hour time span between... -
Hi everyone- I just want to introduce myself/family and see if anyone else can relate. After my 3rd pregnancy I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and a wheat allergy. I avoided wheat on and off until recently when I decided it's for real and I just need to stay away from gluten for good. Some of my symptoms were asthma attacks, joint/arthritic type...

ARCHIVED Gluten & Asthma Symptoms
melblondin replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Sports and Fitness
I'm in the process of being tested for Celiac (bloodwork and gene testing), but I do have a confirmed wheat allergy and wheat allergy is associated with exercise induced asthma. I started having asthma attacks when I would exercise about two years ago. I cut out wheat and gluten for a little while and it got better. Then I had a piece of pizza and had... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Prepping For Celiac Test
melblondin replied to KatyE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ugh! I'm in the same boat. I'm supposed to get bloodwork done, but I've been gluten-free for a week and a half now and I'm not sure if that's enough to affect the test or not, but I don't want to eat gluten again because I'm doing so well being off it. I think I'll just get the labs done and see, but I hate knowing the false negative is out there because... -
ARCHIVED Opinions? 11 Month Old Symptoms

ARCHIVED Opinions? 11 Month Old Symptoms
melblondin replied to Violet Ave's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hmmm - what you describe makes me wonder about my 8 month old and me and my whole family for that matter! I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy and hypothyroidism in 2008. I went on and off the gluten free diet, but as of last week am going gluten-free for good because I strongly suspect celiac. I am currently pushing to get the genetic testing done because...
