I marinated some pork tonight in Progresso Red Wine vinegar and immediately had ill effects. The vinegar is the only thing that could be the issue....besides the vinegar, I used garlic, olive oil, lemon, salt and pepper...
Anyone have issues with red wine vinegar? The label does not say grain distilled but the website doesn't really offer much information.....
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Wegman's brand. But their statement sounds pretty good. There can definately be "natural flavorings" that don't contain gluten.
I think when people are wary of "natural flavorings" it's when they dont' know what's in them and they are not labeled gluten-free.
I think I'll start going there more often though! Sounds like a good resource. Whole Food's gluten-free brand contains milk in a lot of their products so that's a no-go for me.

I've been gluten free now for about 2 years. I had first asked my allergist about gluten intolerance/celiac and he said the best test was to eliminate it and see if I felt better. I did eliminate it and fairly quickly felt better than I had my whole life.
Then a new Celiac clinic opened up. And they were offereing Celiac screenings. So I contacted the nurse in charge, told her i wanted to be screened but that I was already eating gluten-free. She said to eat gluten the 2 weeks leading up to the test. I did that (and felt terrible) and was tested. They did 2 blood tests (I think it was Total IgA and Trans IgA...I have them at home) but the results were within the normal range. Since they were normal, the center didn't pursue any further testing.
Regardless of the results, I continued my gluten-free diet b/c I felt so much better off it. But to this day, I wonder if those results were right. Was 2 weeks enough to be eating gluten for? What I read now suggests that you should be eating gluten for 6 weeks for it to show up on a blood test....
I won't be going back to eating gluten to get tested again. But now I am thinking that I might get the gene test done. If I have the gene, then I know that there's a possibility of celiac vs a gluten intolerance. Plus I know that I may have passed it to my daughters.
I don't know why but I just feel like I need to know....like I feel like a hypochondriac if I don't have some kind of "answer".... stupid I know....
Any opinions/advice? Thanks!

I would try to give up dairy. I had to give up dairy about 6 months ago and felt a vast improvement with GI symptoms (and acne as well....). Too soy can cause joint pain if you ingest too much...b/c of the isoflavones...
A while ago I was eating a Luna bar and a Choc. Soy milk for snack a day (about 45 isoflavones) and that was causing joint pain...as soon as I stopped the pain disappeared...

SKITTLES!!! My fave and so yummy!! Only the fruit and cinammon Mike and Ike's are gluten-free...not the licorice ones....
I've always had gastro symptoms my whole life (34 years) but they really intensified after I had my first daughter at 30....been gluten-free for 2 years now...and dairy free for 6 months.

Marsha, have you researched Fructose Intolerance? That sounds like that could be your issue...you mention apples and raisins...which have a very high ratio of fructose to glucose. Look into that..Australia has a lot of emerging research on that area...
It's a friggin waste of time. Don't bother. My mom and doc wanted me to see a GI specialist. Saw him last week and he kinda asked a couple times...maybe not directly but "why are you here, i don't have a clue what you're talking about. i only know about celiac disease, i know nothing about food intollerances and other intolerances." he wanted to do a fecal test to check for fat and giardia but i think i decided this morning that i'm not gonna do it due to the cost of the test and they most likely won't find anything.
self diagnosed on everything....intolerance to gluten/dairy/soy/legume/nuts/latic acid/artificial color...and possible problems to raisen, potatoes and apples(unsure yet).

Oh and oddly I can't eat apples (which were my favorite fruit)...gives me horrible internal gas...fructose issues I'm thinking.
Dinner I'm pretty good on. B/c I have the time to cook and such. The problem really is simple, quick and filling snacks.
Purefit bars are gluten and dairy free. They pack a punch for when you are in a hurry (lotsa protien). Go Free makes good granola-ish bars that are gluten and dairy free (and yummy). Bumble bars are yummy but they may have honey. I am a big fan of lots of fruits and veggies as snacks. grapes and apples travel well. Baby carrots and sugar snap peas are my favorite veggie snackes. Carrots & PB are yummy if you need a bit of protein. Lunch ideas: tuna or chicken salad wraps (french meadow makes a pretty good version of a flour tortilla, make sure your canned chicken/tuna is gluten free, best foods Mayo is gluten & casein free). Or you can cook up some rice and beans & veggies and put that in a wrap. does this mean you also need other dinner ideas as well if you are getting bored with the leftovers...? Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks! i'll have to try the Vegan Gourmet cheese. I had tried Daiya cheese (vegan as well) but that didn't agree with me....
So Delicious coconut milk (comes in a milk cartons in the refrigerated section but recently I saw it in shelf stable cartons)
Vegan Gourmet makes a "cheese" that's good melted on things- think nachos, pizza toast etc. Gillian's Rolls are CF and make nice pizza toasts or tuna melts
I make up an antipasta plate with marinated mushrooms, mixed olives, carrot and celery sticks and salami(Hormel).
Tuna salad and crackers (Glutino plain are CF)
Nuts are great to snack on-you can make homemade trail mix with nuts and seeds(pumpkin, sunfower) and shredded coconut, dried fruits, and Enjoylife choco chips- choose unsalted and/or unsweetened varieties of ingredients to make it "healthier"

Thanks!! Where can you get Purefit and Go Free?

Anyone have any good lunch and snack ideas? Lately I am just getting so bored with what I eat and seem to just eat the same thing over and over again. I am gluten free and dairy free.
I usually do rice cakes w/ almond butter, soy milk...for snacks.
Lunch a lot of times is left overs....
I try to stay away from the pre-packaged stuff b/c it's kind of junky anyhow...
I used to love Luna bars, but they are not gluten-free. I was loving Kind bars for a while but then the honey got to bother my stomach....
Thanks!

Yes canker sores are a symptom of gluten intolerance/celiac. I actually have one canker sore that comes back in the same place when I accidentally eat gluten.....

I find that Phazyme gas pills help with the pain....

It really is such a pain! And then you start second guessing everything! It was definately easier before, though not healthier I realize. But it feels like a kick in the gut (no pun intended) to be so strict with what you eat, and then you end up much more sensitive.
Well I think I'm going to completely make sure everything in my kitchen is ok and see if that helps.

Hi there...my name is Kristin and I am new to this forum.
I've been gluten free for about 2 years now. Despite a negative Celiac blood panel, I decided to go gluten-free after seeing a HUGE improvement in many chronic symptoms I've had for my whole life. I recently too gave up dairy in November of last year after seeing the return of some of those symptoms.
I feel that I am very good at adhering to the diet. With my limited options, I eat a rather predicitable diet.
Question is, lately i've noticed that if I accidentally ingest the tiniest part of gluten, I have a HUGE reaction to it. Much worse than before. Is it possible to become more sensitive to gluten the longer you go without it?
The last 2 weeks I seem to be getting sick frequently again. I've had no obvious gluten accidents. The only thing I can think of is a shared toaster we use at home and a frying pan...though I mainly do the cooking...
Yesterday I got quite ill from some eggs I cooked with pancetta (which I confirmed with the company was gluten-free)....so frustrating when you don't know what is making you sick.
Thanks!

Hi there! I think you could feel that even that short a time after giving up gluten. And those are the exact symptoms I get too. Have you been tested? If not, you might want to consider that before you go gluten free......b/c once you are gluten-free, you won't want to go back....
I am in NJ too....where are you located? I'm in Union County.
