ARCHIVED New "victim" Needs Advice
DLayman replied to VAGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
aldociao & phil.. If you are finding that the regular gluten free diet is not cutting it for you, you might want to concider the specific carbohydrate diet. It takes out disacchrides and other carbs that are hard to digest and gives your body only items that it can handle.. items that are pretty much already broken down for you so your body does not have... -
ARCHIVED Uncertainty..
DLayman replied to DLayman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We actually have not had blood tests yet.. I guess that is not unusual for this doctor.. ?? I will go with the two week trial and if I see symptoms I will ask for the blood tests.. Like you said mabye the 1/2 slice ob bread was not enough.. or mabye we are barking up the wrong tree. -
Well the thing I feared most has come to pass.. Uncertainty.. His endoscopy and biopsy came out normal. So we are supposed to put him on a normal diet, weigh him in tommorow and in two weeks and see if he gains any weight. If not we will do some more stool studies to look for fat absorption and enzymes. Grrr.. have I been too easy on his system the last...

DLayman replied to aprilm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know about while you a pregnant.. it can't hurt.. but I can tell you this. If you plan to breastfeed I would go gluten free while doing it. My son startted showing a sensistivitiy to the things I ate and would projectile spit up.. as soon as I took wheat out of my diet he stopped doing that .. when I messed up there he went again. So there's a caution... -

Well we got through the endoscopy of my little two year old today without a hitch. He did really well! He is home and playing and happy and HUNGRY! So we will see. he did lose a little weight in the... -
ARCHIVED How To Gain Weight When You Aren't Better
DLayman replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
after 4 kids I have found that the more common sense an idea, a diet or a treatment method has, the less likely a doctor is going to beapt to use it,, it's like they gone the opposite direction from common sense, Whatever happened to this: Patient: Hey doc, it hurts when I do this! Doc: Don't do it! I don't know! do you? Your right.. thescdiet... -

ARCHIVED Help Confused
DLayman replied to hillary-h's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's only 9 days away so I wouldn't worry about it too much, you could cut down on her intake of gluten but she really needs to be ingest gluten to have the biopsy come out right too. We go in with our son tommorow for his endoscopy, he has not had blood tests yet. As far as the stools go.. pale floating stools are a sign of malsorption and fat in the... -

ARCHIVED The Doctor Just Called This Moring. Lots Of ?s
DLayman replied to 4angels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey Anne, It would be helpful to know which antibody tests came back positive and which did not and exaclty what the numbers were to better answer your question. It is possible to have a gluten sensitivity with out having Celiac disease. Isn't it a pain how the doctors are unwilling to test for this unless they see those 'classic' symptoms? My little... -
ARCHIVED Is A Biospy Absolutely Necessary?
DLayman replied to KAthyB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like Sarah said there is no harm in placing your daughter on a gluten free diet. I think you will find that it is a rather healthy diet actually. There is also a diet called the specific carbohydrate diet that is the original celiac diet from when doctors were first figuring this disease out. You might want to look into it as it is a diet meant to help... -

ARCHIVED Why Can't Doctors Agree?
DLayman replied to Stephanie7297's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go hit the doctor upside the head and say NO! Or say.. ok I'll put him back on gluten if you keep him for a week... hehehehe. I really dont understand what their problem is. THEY don't have to do the diet.. it's no skin off their back!!! Just because he showed little damage is no reason to say oh well no it's not that.. I would say that is a reason... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Feed Your Babies?
DLayman replied to siouxsie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are so in the same boat! My little guy is 5 months this week! I tried the rice cereal but he got very gassy and uncharecteristically fussy. So we started giving him bananas. Even just a regular overripe banana mushed up he loved it! I doubt there is much chance of bananas setting off an allergic reaction! And if he is getting rash and irritiation from... -
