  1. Hi amandasmommy, Thank for this link...what a great article!! So often I read medical articles that are written in such a "doctorly" manner. Since this one is so easy to understand I'm going to send it to a few family members that just haven't been able to get it, or refuse to believe they have it. Wendy
  2. scotia, I read your post from the 26th and it brought a tear to my eye. finally, someone who feels about it the way I do. I feel very blessed and fortunate to have found out what was wrong with me after so many years. If I have to have a disease I am thrilled that it's this one. I mean, we don't have to go through some horrible surgery, or chemotherapy...

    ARCHIVED Beers!

Hi Jams, Well, I googled it and this is what I got... 143 Rt. 59 Building 6 Hiburn N.Y. 10931 (845) 369-7827 Fax (845) 368-1751 I hope that helps. If it's any good, please let us all know. Also curious about the price, since the gluten-free beers seem to be very costly to order. Good luck Wendy

    ARCHIVED Beers!

Hi Richard, Also a great article. I havn't had any beer almost 2 years because I was afraid of it. I have also heard some people say that regular beer is okay because the gluten protien is "cooked" out. Never believed it. Hi Jenvan, Sorry, I think I wrote the link wrong. It is in the gluten free mall update that you get in...
  5. Hi again BrianH, Yes, your body is doing damage even if you don't have symptoms. Celiacs is an autoimmune disease. A healthy bodies antibodies are supposed to attack and kill bad bacteria, viruses, poisons, ect. The problem is that our antibodies are screwed up. They think Gluten is the enemy so they attack and kill it but in the process attack...
  6. Welcome BrianH, I know how you feel about the fatigue, it's terrible. As a kid I seemed like a healthy happy kid, except for the fact that I constantly got every cold, flu, virus, tonsilitus, or infection, that came my way. Obviously looking back I realize that it was because of a compromised immune system. I also slept alot as a kid. When I was...

    ARCHIVED Beers!

I have searched all over the forum because I remember someone asking about gluten-free beer, but I can't find it. So I'll start a new thread. In the gluten free mall update, there is an article (#7) in the Celiac disease in the media section. It talks about pizza and beer parties and how the celiac can't participate anymore, until now. There...
  8. Hi Debmidge, I came across this medical article the other day about PN. This was one of the facts stated that I thought you would find interesting. "Vitamin E, B6, B12, niacin are essential to healthy nerve function. Thiamine deficience, in particular, can cause a painfrul neuropothy of the extremities." I wonder if the doctor could check...
  9. I was also overweight. At my sickest I was about 40 pounds heavier than I am now. Which was so weird because how could anyone who didn't eat very much, who was always vomitting and had chronic diareah be overweight? When I found out about a food allergy, I started to feel a slight bit better and lost about 15 pounds (eating more and vomitting less, so...

    ARCHIVED To Life

Wow! It's cool that so many of us live near enough to go to this place! I live about 3 hours from the beaches but I will even make it a day trip to go to this place again! cheesecake, I don't know of any other gluten-free restaurants in the area but if any of you know of any in Cape may New Jersey we will be going there next week. If I have any luck...
  11. Hi aslo, Jnkmnky is ABSOLUTLEY correct!! You must be 100% gluten-free to get well. Celiacs disease is an autoimunne diseas. Our immune systems are screwed up. A normal immune system is supposed to send out antibodies that attack bad bacteria, viruses, poisons ect. Our immune systems think gluten is the poison and the antibodies come...
  12. Hi Lauren, I know...Wow! Can you even imagine? Eating out in restaurant and getting to order a SANDWICH? Unbelievable! I might even be worth a day trip to the beach (I'm about 2-1/2 or 3 hours away) just to get one. Wendy
  13. I had just started a new thread in the dinning out section about a week ago telling everyone about to life and the big easy. Too bad you didn't see it before you went, but the fact that you stumbled on it is fantastic. Aren't the owners great? Super nice people!! I think their shop will get better and better as time goes on. Since they are so new they...
  14. Irish and English on my mom's side. It's her side that I think the disease comes from. On my dad's side... Irish, English, and Welsh (therefore British) plus a great grandmother who was french. Blue, green eyes and blond hair. My daughter (who is also a celiac) also has blue eyes and blond hair. Hmmmm....very interesting! Wendy
  15. It could also be that maybe your husbands friend wasn't having any digestive symptoms so he THOUGHT he was cured. I agree with Tarnalberry, he probably had tropical sprue. Tropical sprue is curable but is NOT the autoimmune disease, Celiacs. Celiacs is NOT curable!. Even if you have zero symptoms you still have the disease. Whether you feel any symptoms...
  16. Try cutting down on starches. Things like rice, potatoes, even carrots, peas and corn. Your body uses starches and sugars raising your blood sugar levels and then crashing them down, making you crave more. Such starts the viscious cycle. Boost up your intake of protien and super boost up your green vegies. Greens are hard for the body to digest so...
  17. I checked out cosmetics on the delphi forum lists. Cover Girl... All foundations, fresh complextion pressed powder, extremely gentle pressed powder, continuous color moisture enriched blush, all concealers, all eye shadows, all mascaras, thick n thin eye liner, soft radiance eye liner, extremely gentle soft linver, continuous color lipsticks, and lip...
  18. Jonesy, Wet and wild lipsticks are gluten-free. I'm not sure about thier other products, but the lipstick is really cheap, between $1-$2. Wendy
  19. Speaking of animals and their food...we have horses. It didn't occure to me that wheat and oats were in thier food until one day I was feeding carrots and got their slobber on me. It was right after feeding them that I noticed some of the feed stuck to my hand in all the slobber. Hmmmm...wheat seeds! I guess we have to be careful everywhere....
  20. Target brand Metamucil sugar free, not gluten-free. But For an inexpensive lipstick...wet and wild is gluten-free. I'm not sure yet about their other products, still investigating. Paul Newman has a line of wheat free cookies, NOT gluten-free. Just because it says wheat free does not mean it's gluten-free. Also...For those celiacs who...
  21. HI Lis, I'm very sorry you have had to endure such physical problems and doctors that don't seem to help. Most of the people on this board including myself have experienced the same thing. Celiacs disease is a difficlut thing. There are more than 200 symptoms that can be experienced. Some people have some, while others have many, some not so...
  22. Hi Traci, Just wanted you to know, you can be both a celiac and allergic to wheat at the same time. Like everyone else said, the symptoms of sneezing, itching, and your throat closing are definatley an allergic reation, but a Celiac reaction can be totally different. Celiacs is an autoimmune disease. When gluten is injested you immune system...
  23. Okay one word... YESSSSSSSSS!!!! ALRIGHT!!!!!!! I love Wall Mart!!! I will definatley send an e-mail! Wendy (Okay, so that was more than one word)
  24. Hi anniemarie, Everyone here is right, MSG does not have gluten in it however... we should all stay away from it. MSG is not a salt or a flavor additive, it is actuall a chemical compound that chemically changes the make up of your brain into thinking the food you are eating tastes good!! Some people actually respond to it so badly that they can...
  25. Hi sue, hope we helped! Merika, O...MY...GOODNESS...I loved those books!! The Dollanganger family right? Wow I never thought of that, but yeah just like those kids, dying a little each day! Hmmmm... You know...the grandma also gave them donuts every morning for breakfast... Hmmmmm Wendy
