ARCHIVED Gluten-free
watkinson replied to Nevadan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it may look as though poeple come out with more diseases and ailments after being diagnosed with celiacs because they educate themselves and tell thier doctor what they have. I was always sick as a child, they just figured I was "sensitive". Started having severe back pain in Jr. high, then severe neck pain and daily headaches. Was told... -
ARCHIVED What Is Cd..long Post
watkinson replied to louiesgirl2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi louiesgirl2, You sound alot like me. Definalty get the proper testing. Even if it comes out negative, if you feel better being gluten-free, go for it. I went undiagnosed for over 20 years. I saw doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist. Was tested for every disease imaginable it seemed, until I did some research myself and found out... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Psychological Effects
watkinson replied to mandigirl1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi mandigirl, Another thing you may want to investigate is, are the meds your on gluten-free. Ask your pharmasist. If they don't know ask who is the manufacturer and give that company a call. If they ar not gluten-free that may be the reason for the depression. Wendy -
Hi Zmo, actually believe it or not, some coffee contains gluten. Did you use any creamer or get the coffee out of a machine, like a mocha or something? Hope you feel better soon, Wendy

watkinson replied to lucky28's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
environkids has the best cocoa krispy type cereal I have ever tried. Organic and gluten-free. We made rice crispy treats out of them and every single person who tried them said they were the best they ever had. YUMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! We thought next time we would melt some nestle morsels and dribble that over the top, anything for even more chocolate ... -
Hi ms_sillyak_screwed, The reaction I get from pecans is weird. Almost immediatly I feel very sad, like I want to cry. My muscles will feel heavy, and I feel like I can't move. Or at least don't want to. The reaction comes on fast but only stays around a few hours. Interestingly enough walnuts are fine. Weird! I was also hypothyroid before...

ARCHIVED Soluble Fiber Powder/pills
watkinson replied to tama-chan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi tama_chan, I use Metamucil. Just make sure you don't get the sugar free kind, it has Maltodextrin in it. I was sick for 6 weeks and could'nt understand why I was feeling so bad when I had been feeling so good. I finally realized I started feeling bad when I got the sugar free kind. I looked at the package...on the back it said active ingredient:... -
hi guys, A missionary from our church is having a fundraiser tonight at Baja freash. I would like to go, but I called and talked to a rep. who said they did not have an updated list for gluten-free, so unfortunately she could not give me any suggestions. Anyone know if there is somthing we can eat? Thanks, Wendy

Hi countrygal, Try drinking some green tea. It has wonderful antioxidant properties, and is a natural appetite supressant. Plus sipping somthing warm keeps your mind off eating other stuff. Like skdbird said, drinking a glass of milk helps when you get craving. And definatley boost up your protien levels. A good snack when the munchies comes on is...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Psychological Effects
watkinson replied to mandigirl1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi mandigirl1, I would thouroughly, completely, absolutely encourage you to try taking daily omega 3 fatty acids. You can eat salmon or tuna several times a week and add flax meal to gluten-free breads, cereals, or yogurt (if you can eat dairy) Or you can take it in pill form. Whole foods sells a good gluten-free kind. Why do this? There is... -
ARCHIVED Eating The Same Thing, Over And Over
watkinson replied to mandigirl1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi mandigirl and everyone, I also get cravings even though I 100% know that I am completley full. A few people suggested eating more protien. Absolutely! Eggs, red meat, and fish, (like salmon) are great. If you don't like salmon, try it again...grilled is great, also bake it with a horshradish mustard...yummm. Somtimes I think we get cravings... -
ARCHIVED Cheerios
watkinson replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
People who aren't celiacs just don't understand the whole gluten thing. They usually think just wheat. We went to my mom's house last week for lunch. She has always been very understanding and at least tries to feed us correctly. She even made a home made pastuerized, (yes pasturized) mayonaise one time. Anyway...she had some left over home made... -
Hi jnkmnky, All I can say is "RIGHT ON!!!" I get so tired of all the negatism I feel lucky that if I have to have an autoimmune disease that it's celiacs, one that we can easily (yes I said easily) manage. Iv'e been yelled at on this board before, for saying that it was easy, but I truly believe that it is. And why are they always talking...

ARCHIVED Getting Loved Ones Tested
watkinson replied to printmaker81's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Heather, Isn't it the most anoying thing in the world? When I found out what was wrong with me after sooooo many years of torture, I was thrilled to know it was somthing I could manage and take care of (easily in my mind) just by changing my diet. Although I couldn't understand at first why God would let me suffer so long when it was something... -

ARCHIVED 5 Women, All Family, Same Illness?
watkinson replied to Caedia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
caedia, One more thing...depression is also a sign of celiacs. Lots of nuerological problems like sleeplessness, and nerve damage, can be symptoms of celiacs. interestingly enough, conditions like bipolar disorder, autism, spychtsophrenia (sp) and HDAD can be improved by going off gluten Wendy -
ARCHIVED 5 Women, All Family, Same Illness?
watkinson replied to Caedia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
caedia, I'm so sorry that you are so sick, but reading what you wrote was such a read light for me. It sounds like you all have classic celiacs. My grandmother, my aunt, my mother, my sister, myself, and my daughter all have it. At least I think they do. My grandmother has passed away so she couln't be tested but she suffered from stomache problems and... -
Hi Carrie, I was wondering if your taking any vitamins? A B-complex vitamin helps with energy. I take one that I get from Trader Joe's that you put under your tingue. I take it every morning. Also, are you getting enough sleep? Good sleep, the deep REM kind of sleep. I know with me when my muscles are extremely sore and tight I don't sleep deeply...

I checked out a book today by Jax Peter Lowell call against the grain. It seemed like a good book, I was wondering if anyone has read it and if you would recommend it. I saw a quote on the back cover that I thought was great..... Isn't it ironic that the french word for bread is the english word for pain? How profound Wendy

watkinson replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree..there bakery is awsome!!! We tried the apple pie, I couldn't taste any differencefrom regular, it was fantastic. We got the cornbread, yum. We also tried the banana bread, unbelievably good, but the best for me was the almond scones. The only kind of cookie that I have really missed is my mother's almond thumbprints, my most favorite... -
Hi debmidge, Are you 100% positive that he is completely gluten-free? What about shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, Medications? Maybe he also has a food allergy to something. watkinson replied to watkinson's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi guys, Jenvan, I think it is spectacular that you are writing letters to all your old doctors, I have thought many times about doing that but never have. Iv'e always been afraid that I would go off on them and scream about thier idiocy and all the torture I went through because of it. And your right. I am meeting more and more people who are... -
Just a word of encouragement, So often when I read the posts on this site I actually go away feeling down. I mean so often everything in our lives is so negative. We all have so much pain and so many illnesses not to mention all the inconvienience of living our lives gluten-free in a gluten filled world. Well here's a bit of happiness.... We...
