  1. And a big thank you to everyone who answered my questions before! So. My younger daughter. She is having both an upper and lower scope done next week (endoscopy and colonoscopy). The GI thinks it looks like celiac except the anal fissures makes her concerned about IBD/Crohn's. She basically said it could be "just" celiac or it could be both...
  2. I would emphasize the popsicles (or anything frozen) at first (over pudding). When my daughter had her tubes and adenoids done, they really wanted her to suck on a popsicle because the iciness would help reduce the swelling in her throat. Due to her sensory issues, popsicles were not going to happen, so we switched to ice water. Hope you find some yummy...
  3. Depending on what's available, you can also grocery shop as you go. We have stopped at Wegman's and Whole Foods on trips for meals. You can find some ready-to-eat food that works (hot rice), some fresh fruit, and some gluten-free food your child can eat (microwave gluten-free mac-n-cheese, pre-packaged sliced turkey). You can also get gluten-free dessert...
  4. With the clumps of hair faling out post-partum (more so than previous pregnancies) you should get your thyroid checked, too.
  5. I received my youngest daughter's results from some bloodwork earlier this week. I'm trying to sort through what could be relavent to Celiac/Crohn's/other Inflammatory Bowel Disease vs what is something I should just bring up with my ped. I'm taking both girls to a pediatric GI next week, and I want to keep the appointments as focused as possible. Her...
  6. I thought that with the new healthcare bill, pre-existing conditions were no longer a problem for getting health insurance? A diagnosis might be helpful/needed for school. She may need accomodations for issues like cross-contamination, art supples (play-doh, glue, etc), she'll need her own food everytie there's a borthday celebration or a pizza party...
  7. That is exactly what my younger daughter's poop normally looks like (well... since this spring). It was 5x/day, usually 3 poops by noon, but it's improved to 3-4x/day and less undigested food. For a while, it looked like I had taken a scoop full of dinner and just dumped it in her diaper, with a little actual poo to bind it together. The improvements...
  8. Thank you - I have seen those. As far as I can tell in reading the "health improvements" slides, people fared better on gluten-free diets, regardless of gliadin antibody status. Not a ringing endorsement of any test. I was hoping for a sense of whether maybe his cutoff is too low, over-emphasizing sensitivity at the expense of specificity, and if this...
  9. I don't have full results yet, but so far, Me, Enterolab IGA anti-gliadin: 14 I have fibromyalgia and two negative celiac panels DD1 E-lab IGA anti-gliadin: 22 Celiac panel shows IGA deficient DD2 E-lab IGA anti-gliadin: 118 TTG of 26 currently eating her daily bread, preparing for a GI visit next week I'm wondering how seriously I...
  10. Maybe this been done before, but I would love to see people's Enterolab numbers (no need to cut and paste the whole thing - we all know they tell you that you're gluten sensitive and should have all your family and friends tested ) and then their blood test/biopsy/gluten-free diet results. For example, did you get an 11 on the IGA anti-gliadin, and...
  11. Thank you all. I found something on NIH that said it is possible (though rare) to have celiac with just half a gene (or allele or whatever). So my daughter with DQ 2,2 and DQ6 has half a gene in the B sequence 0202. I don't want the doc to say that since she's not 2.5, celiac is impossible, so I will print that out and bring it with me. I will post...
  12. The Solgar sublingual B12 isn't the methyl form, which is what you need. I know, because I have an unused bottle (minus one tablet) taking up space in my medicine cabinet...
  13. For your daughter who has Asperger's - consider reading the book Special Needs Kids Eat Right by Judy Converse. Many kids on the spectrum (and kids with sensory processing issues too) benefit from a gluten-free casein-free diet. Many also have vitamin deficiences. This is separate and apart from whether they have celiac. So it is possible that your daughter...
  14. The celiac panel our local lab ran included: anti-gliadin IGG anti-gliadin IGA TTG IGG TTG IGA anti-endomysial IGA total IGA Aside from total IGG, I can't think of anything else that could be included, and I thought it was pretty thorough. You do need a total IGA, because if you don't make enough IGA in general, you can't make a high enough...
  15. My daughter can't have dairy and I found that many sublingual B12 tablets are cultured on a dairy product, so make sure it is casein-free! You could also try a B complex supplement - if your B12 is on the low side, the other B's might be too. Not all probiotics are created equal, so do your research there. There should be over 1 billion live cells...
  16. I know, so backwards. Sigh. She is not autistic, but has many of the co-morbidities, so we were doing biomedical/DAN testing with a nutritionist. IGG testing to different foods is part of the protocal. It was in researching the significance of the IGG results (since it's a controversial test among allergists) that I stumbled across the celiac panel...
  17. The GI is now going to see my older daughter, too. I really, really hate to re-gluten her, though. 1. Many of her symptoms are psychological and impact her ability to "succeed" in preschool (playing with other children, etc). Her preschool teachers have voiced concerns each year. it also makes for an incredibly stressful home life. 2. She understands...
  18. Ugh. Well, I just read the celiac panel results myself - which my nutritionist (who is hereby fired) had told me was all normal. My older daughter tested out normal on everything, except that her total IGA was only 21. The ref range was 27-195. Which, 1. makes me wonder what her 22 AGA IGA on Enterolab could have been with normal total IGA and 2. what...
  19. Skylark, yes, that is helpful, thank you. You are right, Enterolab is calling 0201 the celiac gene and 0202 the sensitive one. Does the fact that my older daughter is a double DQ2 have any significance? Or not, because it wouldn't be double DQ2.5? I am so annoyed with myself that she was gluten-lite for three weeks and then gluten free for 10 days before...
  20. Could someone please help with the significance of these results? Mine: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0603 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,1 (Subtype 2,6) Older daughter: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0202 Serologic...
  21. Skylark, Thank you so much! For how long, do you think? She's been "gluten-lite" for 4-5 weeks now.
  22. Hi everyone! I ordered Enterolab tests for myself and my two girls. Briefly, Me: mid-thirties, fibromyalgia, hypoglycemia, brain fog, occasional "bug crawling" sensation, lots of other little things 4.5 year old: Sensory Processing Disorder, repeat ear infections, even after tubes and adnoid removal, behavioral issues, pale skin and tongue, recently...
  23. I'm still waiting for Enterolab results for three of us (should be coming today - I keep hitting "refresh" "refresh" like a pathetic person). I will tell you that for reasons yet fully known, my older daughter has malabsorption problems. We took her to a nutritionist for biomedical intervention for a slew of issues, and she came back with many vitamin...
  24. I will let you know - expecting results for three family members this Thursday. My daughter and I just received negative results on the celiac panel (this is the second time for me), so I am interested to get the Enterolab results. But I also think it's possible that we don't have celiac, but shouldn't eat gluten for other reasons.
  25. We are seeing a nutritionist for my daughter, who weighs 35 pounds (relates to dosage). She was found deficient in many B vitamins, and B12 was the lowest. She is getting a total of 635 mcg, so, less than 1 mg, per day. The nutritionist is definately not conservative with the vitamins, so it sounds like you are really getting a lot of B12. I don't think...
