I was slowly and steadily gaining before my diagnosis, in 3 months on a gluten free diet I've lost 19 pounds and 2 pant sizes and the gluten-free diet is the only change I've made. I no longer have food cravings, not even for sugar but I have eaten my fair share of gluten-free sweets when i feel deprived by the restrictions.

I have long hair (just past shoulders) and was losing handfuls of hair in the shower before I got my celiac diagnosis. I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis so it could be related to that, but the hair loss was one of my first problems to leave when I started the gluten free diet!

Have you asked your Dr. to check your levels of certain things? Vit. D and Iron for example? I've had all those checked, and occasionally re check, I am working with a Nutrition Therapist who specializes in gluten free diets, and she recommends liquid or sub lingual supplements, it's easier for your gut to absorb until you heal more.

I'm so sorry you had a such a hard time, I think probably a lot of people with celiac and/or food allergies/intolerances have rough holidays. Try to find a lab that will let you self order tests, my naturopath sent me to a lab like that, and the Thyroid antibodies test was only $40.
