  1. I'm almost positive that corn gives me an almost identical reaction that I would to gluten. Three years into the gluten free diet and I was still symptomatic and still had the DH rash, as well as a TON of rashes all over my body. Cut out soy, dairy, seafood, and several other foods but never corn. Then I ate some BRM cornbread, which is made in a...
  2. Nobody likes posts like these but I've been crying all morning, enough is enough and I need help. There just aren't any physicians in my area that are capable, or knowledgable, enough to treat my case; my rheumatologist didn't even know that Celiac disease was a systemic immune reaction. I got glutened a few days ago by taking a supplement that said...
  3. They're seasoned when they're boiled but I've never seen them re-seasoned after being peeled. There's a good amount of salt put into the boil but not enough soaks into the meat to make the DH flare. They're also fresh/brackish, pretty sure salt water kills them. If you reacted to them, it was probably gluten.
  4. Southwest Louisiana.
  5. I personally wouldn't eat farm-raised shrimp unless I was certain they weren't fed a product with gluten. And yeah, crawfish are soooooo delicious. All the northerners who don't touch them because they look like "bugs" just have no idea what they're missing. If you decide to eat some, let us know if you have a reaction to them or not. The seasoning...
  6. My family has owned a seafood restaurant for over 25 years and I've had plenty of experience with these little guys. They're perhaps one of the most delicious delicacies spawned by the Cajun/Creole culture. That said, I would not eat these as a celiac... especially if you're sensitive. They're usually raised in rice fields (rice requires water), in...
  7. I don't believe that people are intolerant to rice and other grains. I believe that all of the grains are often cross contaminated and these "intolerances" are mostly just reactions to gluten content. For instance, people say they're soy intolerant but it just so happens that soy is often the most contaminated of the grains due to farming practices...
  8. My younger sister's 10mo child recently developed eczema across her entire body. I was wondering if this can be indicative of celiac disease, and if it is what would be the best way to get the child tested? A blood test? I also have a niece who developed bloating, GI symptoms, and started becoming swollen especially after meals so she also needs to...
  9. You guys are saying that you've both been glutened by McCormick garlic powder? I don't see anything indicating its origin except for "packaged in U.S."
  10. I doubt it's a contamination issue on my end as everything is prepared with my food in my kitchen. There's no gluten containing foods in my house, etc. and she doesn't eat here. I made a list of all the possible sources and everything checked out except this and the Bayer aspirin (they won't guarantee gluten-free). I'd hate to challenge this stuff again...
  11. I've used everything else before except for Bayer aspirin and the vinegar. Curiously, Great Value marks its gluten-free products as "gluten free" and this vinegar has no gluten free label. Supposedly that means that means Wal-Mart does not consider this product safe for us to eat. They have no qualms about labeling the safe food gluten free, so why...
  12. I was reading a post by someone who saw the vinegar manufacturing process on Modern Marvels. They said that after the mixture is distilled, a grain based mixture is then added to help ferment and there is absolutely NO distillation after it's added so whatever was in the mixture that was added is also in the final product. If that mixture contains gluten...
  13. This vinegar bottle does not say gluten free on it. I've heard that Great Value will put gluten-free on the label if the product is gluten free so this scares me. What are the chances that it's distilled from wheat?
  14. Was feeling so much better too up until yesterday, but I started having glutening symptoms and they continued throughout today. I'm at a loss as to where I was exposed but maybe you guys can help. I wrote down everything I came in contact with that is questionable. Simply Orange orange juice Spices (usually single ingredients, Alessi Black Peppercorns...
  15. Were you having any reactions to the stuff? I find it so interesting that there are SO many people who report having a gluten reaction when using shampoos, conditioners, and what not with the stuff in it yet Mayo and other hospitals say, "that's impossible, gluten can't be absorbed through the skin!"
  16. I have had a rough last few months, with wild - wild swings between my good days and bad days. It seemed like I was continuing to get glutened by I kept limiting my diet and still... symptomatic. I came across a post on another forum from 2006 where someone mentioned they had red, painful, itchy bumps on their scalp and they went away after switching...
  17. I did. There are two things I have NEVER eliminated in my diet ever, HFCS and fruit. Fructose malabsorption can cause brain fog, prevention of healing, fatigue and whatever else, and I was definitely suffering GI symptoms after having too much fruit. I also believe there's a chance that HFCS has some serious cross contamination due to the inherent contamination...
  18. I have noted tremendous improvement in the last few days cutting out corn and fruit, including HFCS. I've been grain free before, but when I cut out corn I started drinking tons of HFCS soft drinks and eating a lot of fruit and fruit juices. I don't want to write too much on it until I'm positive this improvement I'm feeling is lasting but I'm feeling...
  19. I'm really starting to believe that I have a really big problem with corn. I haven't really gotten that much better and seem to have many setbacks, but after having a full blown glutened reaction, albeit slightly more minor, after eating cornbread made from BRM's gluten free factory then I don't know how else to explain it. Today is like day four of my...
  20. I was glutened 9-11 days ago and the D has just now resolved. Now all of my stools are completely unformed and very small, however they do sink. How long does it take for the D and for you guys to get solid normal looking stools? Do you guys always get the unformed stools for a period while recovering? I'm trying to gauge how responsive I am when...
  21. Sorry for the multiple posts, I didn't think my first one was displayed because it was greyed out. Refractory Celiac Disease DOES heal on thiopurines and sometimes prednisone. I was wondering if those medications could be discontinued after the intestinal tract was fully healed? I'm at the stage where my symptoms DO slowly subside (especially when...
  22. The only time I've ever felt close to normal has been when on immunosuppressives and I don't think I've healed after over four years gluten free, so I think RCD is a possibility for me. Unfortunately, I can't find anyone with it. I've noticed there are several treatments for the disease, first being prednisone. I was on it just a few months ago and...
  23. So noone knows whether or not you can discontinue prednisone for refractory sprue after you've healed? Or if it's a medication "to take for life"? Where are the people with RCD on this site? Are there really none on Celiac.com? Is there another site/forum dedicated for people with refractory disease because I want to hear their experiences. Seems...
  24. I'm sort of sinking into the possibility that I have refractory sprue. Not only have I not gotten better with over 3 1/2 years on the diet, but I had an experience a few weeks ago... I was on 25mg/d of prednisone and it seemed to get rid of all of the inflammation, but something weird I started noticing a few weeks after I began taking the medication...
  25. You know I've never gotten completely better. Every single time I start feeling better, I start becoming more active and start socializing a lot more and also start loosening up my food restrictions and eating more processing food. I always stick to gluten free foods, but it seems everytime I "try" Wendy's or start eating processed gluten-free food, I ALWAYS...
