  1. Finding a Holland and Barret is a very good place to start for gluten free snacks and breads, though some of them have a very limited range. Supermarkets, my favourites being Tesco and Asda, have a very good range of gluten free foods, snacks and breads and things that can be useful to you. Most supermarkets, ift hey are big enough, have a section at...
  2. Saccharomyces Cerevisiae is a yeast, so maybe they are looking for some kind of infection that could be causing issues? Sorry, I'm not sure .-.
  3. Hey, I've been on this site a while now, though I disappeared for a while when I got tangled up in life (University started, work ect) but over the last few months my health has begun to deteriorate to the point where I may as well be eating wheat and at least be suffering for something. I want to get tested, and the Coeliacs confirmed so my Grandparent...
  4. My OCD has lessened tremendously, but I'm still a rather jumpy person. I think it depends on one's own state of mind and health, among other things.
  5. I haven't read through this whole thread yet, just want to add my experience in here. When I was eating wheat before I realised what was causing my symptoms, I was a very neurotic individual, easily disturbed and plagued with nightmares. I was also an insomniac, and as such I was very unwell. Even with sleeping pills I was constantly depressed and very...
  6. I think even just a week can make a huge difference, depending on how badly damaged you were before that and how strongly you went gluten free. If you cut it out, as well as lactose, right from the start you would probably heal faster than someone still eating lactose, because it is notoriously hard to digest. Though my parents were very supportive, one...
  7. It was an elimination thing for me, though it wasnt planned. I visited my boyfriend in Australia and stayed with his family for six months. Whereas at home I would have a pork product nearly every day, over there they had one once every month. It was pretty easy to pinpoint the cause when it went away after a few weeks and came back again the evening after...
  8. I havent had gluten for about three weeks now, and for two of those I felt brilliant. I tried to eat some pork at the weekend (an intolerance I gained with the gluten intolerance) and that had a nasty effect on my stomach, but five days later the symptoms have gotten worse rather than better. - had a headache all week, which water and painkillers wont touch...
  9. I dont have time to read all of this right now, as I have to go soon, so I've skipped to the bottom to post. Sorry for any repeated advice. Have you looked into the possibility of any other allergies? I developed a pork allergy along side Coeliacs, and I get a burning sensation in my upper stomach/ lower chest area every time I eat it by accident. Maybe...
  10. My periods were always irregular and very heavy, lasting at least seven days, until I went on the pill. That seemed to regulate them effectively for me, though I did have on every month whereas you are having them very sporadically. I cant say the pain has improved since taking up this diet, butit might in the future, as this is my first whilst eating a...
  11. Pregnancy does all kinds of weird and wonderful things to the blood cell count, solute count and molecule count of the blood. I would suggest waiting until she has had her baby and wait a few weeks for her body to re-settle, just to be sure.
  12. Lol. Funky Christmas lists must come with the territory. I fell asleep thinking about what I could make to go in my lunches next week, which is a little more food obsessed than I usually am XD I'm giving it a break until Friday now and having a salad from subway - checking the sauces, of course - with plain chicken, which should be fine. My paranoia is...
  13. I would recommend stopping dairy for a little while. I found when I stopped eating gluten that my stomach was still sensitive to dairy for a week after, at least, before I could eat low levels of it again. I would also recommend, while you're beginning to heal, to eat things that are easily digestible: Fruit, veg, fish and as little red meat as possible...
  14. I realised that foods could really effect people's behaviour, but I didnt expect gluten to be one of them. Guess because it wasn't as drastic as my brother's allergy I didnt really notice it.
  15. Thank you all again! I never expected to get this many replies! Though that lunch package you recommended looks very useful, it is unfortunately rather expensive. I'm currently living off about
  16. I suppose this isnt helped by the fact that I am a little bit of a picky eater, though not as bad as I used to be when I was much younger, I still havent got a huge repertoire of food I will happily eat. Any kind of fish (especially cold) makes me feel like I'm going to vomit, and actually has a few times, so I steer clear of any seafood. The bread...
  17. Hi there. I haven't known about being coeliac for very long and as such am still adjusting to the lifestyle. My first move was to replace all my old non-edible stuff with gluten free versions - something I'm now weaning myself off of - but I really need some advice for when I'm away from home. I was brought up on the ease of the sandwich as a packed...
  18. Thank you everyone for all the advice, shared experience and suggestions. It's good to not feel so alone anymore - I always feel so awkward when my family decides to eat out and I have to ask the poor waiters and waitresses what I can and cant eat. Most places they frequent arent that good for coeliacs, though they're changing that slowly, but as a dairy...
  19. Hey HardcoreDior, I am younger than you, at 20, and still in education, but no longer in a school environment. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I have been gluten free for at least two weeks now, possibly longer, but my memory is terrible, but I am already feeling some differences in the way I react to things. I posted this because of a reaction...
  20. I'm new to the wheat free diet, and it's horrible to have to watch people eat food that I cant eat right in front of me. I understand it is one of the hardest things in the world. While I was trying to figure out what was wrong with me I went lactose free, and it was incredibly hard to watch my parents put cheese on their pasta and have cheese on toast...
  21. I've found that eating at university is a big pain as well. On top of that unless you want to live on foods that are notoriously gluten free, most of the replacements are pretty pricey. It is very annoying, and I sympathise. The only advice I can offer to to do the first option, and buy your own foods that you know are gluten free. If you are on a budget...
  22. I'm well aware that the strangest things can affect one's mental health, and that is why I'm posing this question, though I'm not sure it is in the right place. I hope so. Anyone who's read my other thread will know I'm a self diagnosed celiac, and haven't been to a doctor because I have been gluten free for two weeks or so now, and I couldn't get an early...

    ARCHIVED A Little Guidance?

Thanks again for the advice, Mushroom. I went around my surgery this morning, but they were still closed despite their sign saying they should have been open an hour before. When I returned after my morning at University there was a notice in the window stating that, due to situations out of the surgery's hands, the surgery will be shut for the week....

    ARCHIVED A Little Guidance?

Hello Marylin, Thank you for the advice on the doctor. I was worried about how to approach them with such an issue and I guess dulling it down would be the best solution. I have recently changed doctors, because of a fiasco with an ear infection that last much longer than it should have done, and this one seems much more competent, so fingers crossed...

    ARCHIVED A Little Guidance?

Hi Takala, thank you for the reply. I have already done a lot of research into it to try and match my symptoms, which is why I took Lactose Intolerance as a first guess, because a lot of those symptoms also fitted with the problems I was having. Doctors over here hate it when people walk into their surgery with an idea of what they think is wrong with...
