ARCHIVED Would Love Your Input On This
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would love some of your advice about this situation. Super quick background: Ds has always had digestive issues (though not diarrhea). He has the gene for celiac and got a blood test but only for IGA-TTG, and he's IGA deficient. Scope was clean. Last year he reached the point where he was doubled over almost daily, not feeling good enough to play,... -
ARCHIVED Will The Diarrhea Ever End?
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been thinking about this some more. We will remove oats and dairy from his diet, and obviously keep him gluten-free. Is there any reason to remove corn? I realized that's one grain that he's been eating a lot of. If oats and dairy are far more likely, we'll just stick with that. TIA! -
ARCHIVED Will The Diarrhea Ever End?
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you both! My youngest is sensitive to even a crumb of bread. He often reacts to modified food starch in a seasoning blend. I guess I assumed that if he can eat the oats, then my oldest certainly could. I know the allergy tests are different, but I'm realizing that the proteins must be different too. (Otherwise my son with the IgE wheat allergy wouldn... -
ARCHIVED Will The Diarrhea Ever End?
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are more details in my siggy, but my oldest son (age 6) has significant risk factors for celiac disease. He has never been prone to diarrhea. However, we put him on a gluten-free diet for 10 weeks this summer. He had one accidental exposure to a trace amount of gluten without issue, and then started back on oats a week before gluten without problems... -
ARCHIVED If Your Skinny Child Gained Weight On gluten-free Diet . . .
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
how long did it take before the weight gain began? We are strongly suspecting celiac in our oldest (details are in my siggy). He's 6 years old, and lost 3 lbs earlier this year despite a good appetite. This dropped his BMI down to around the 3rd percentile. We just finished a trial on a gluten-free diet (10 weeks), and his bowels completely rebelled when... -
ARCHIVED Would You Call This "undiagnosed Celiac"?
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My oldest son has had digestive issues his whole life (severe esophagal inflammation as an infant/toddler and frequent unexplained stomach pain as a child). He's 6 and lost 3 lbs earlier this year despite a very healthy appetite--which puts his BMI at around the 3rd percentile. We have realized that there's a family history of celiac, though no one else... -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea On Period. What Gives?
Staceyshoe replied to GFreeMO's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had this for years (and I do not have celiac or gluten intolerance). When I went to an acupuncturist for hormonal imbalance, my periods became lighter, more regular, and no more diarrhea. It's been 8 years since my last acupuncture treatment, and the positive effects are still there. -
ARCHIVED How Long After Gluten Before Reaction?
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for your responses. My biggest worry was not having a clear gluten-related reaction and still feeling like we don't know for sure. We have a pretty clear reaction. Ds has had diarrhea all afternoon, barely making it to the bathroom at times. He's never had anything remotely like this before, so I'm pretty sure it's the gluten. -
ARCHIVED How Long After Gluten Before Reaction?
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My oldest ds just went gluten-free for 10 weeks and started back on gluten yesterday. He was fine yesterday, but having diarrhea today (about 24 hours after gluten exposure). Does this sound like a gluten reaction? I was expecting a quicker reaction if gluten was the problem, but I don't really know how quickly someone with celiac might react to gluten either... -
ARCHIVED Question On Enterolab Testing
Staceyshoe replied to BizzyBee62's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We used Enterolab to test our two boys. The info was very helpful because we had no idea if celiac could even be a possibility. Keep in mind that the majority of people with the celiac gene do no develop the disease, so a positive genetic test doesn't confirm a celiac diagnosis. A negative genetic test indicates that it's unlikely that celiac disease is... -
ARCHIVED Trial Of gluten-free Diet
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That makes a lot of sense. Thank you! I'm curious to see what happens during/after this trial. -
ARCHIVED Trial Of gluten-free Diet
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 6 y.o.'s endoscopy came back neg for celiac, but he's having regular stomach aches. (Really no other symptoms of celiac, however.) I'd like to try a gluten-free trial just to see what happens. I need to do it for 6-8 weeks, right? We have a lot of specialty diets in our immediate and extended family, so I'm pretty familiar with gluten-free. I keep... -
Does anyone know about this or know of a forum where I can get questions answered? I'll write my story below and try to be brief. My son has a history of severe silent GERD which included an inability to swallow. When he started on Prevacid at age 2, he gained 5 lbs in 6 wks and then the meds stopped working. They doubled the dosage and it was still ineffective...

ARCHIVED Negative Test---How Long Until We Test Again?
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 6y.o. son's celiac test was negative. He is not symptomatic, so I do trust the result. He is positive with THE genetic subtype most likely to result in celiac, and he is IGA deficient (which I understand also increases the risk that he may develop celiac). I've heard of too many people without classic symptoms who have celiac and don't want to overlook... -
ARCHIVED Toddler Refusing Food. Help!
Staceyshoe replied to MommyB1234's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has he had a scope? My oldest went through 14 months of therapy with 4 different therapists, all trying to motivate/teach him to eat. So much emotional energy and dr bills--only to find out that he had so much esophagal inflammation that he literally couldn't swallow non-liquids much of the time. He would refuse food for up to 5 days at a time, and his... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Are In
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you, Ravenwoodglass! I have learned so much here. I'm not sure what I would do without this board. I finally talked to the nurse today. Both the nurse and the dr were in agreement that his blood test could be a false negative since his IGA levels are deficient. I requested different bloodwork, but the dr is wanting to do the scope. Honestly... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Are In
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you both for your insights! I'm so disappointed that the question of whether he has celiac is still unanswered. I did some reading on IGA deficiency and saw something that said it's usually diagnosed with IGA levels of 7 or lower. So I guess he kind of falls in a gray zone--higher than the typical level of someone who is "deficient" but still below... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Are In
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son's celiac panel came back negative. I'm just curious what insights you might have into the results. This was on a 5 year old boy who was on a completely unrestricted diet (including a lot of gluten). TTG IGA - 5 (no reference range given) IGA - 20.3 L (ref range: 25.0-152.0 mg/dL) Any thoughts? -
ARCHIVED Advice For My 5 Year Old
Staceyshoe replied to HappyMomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
EGID was the first thing that came to mind when I saw your post also. When I was researching the disorder, I found a Yahoo group that was FAR FAR more helpful than the vast majority of articles online. Like celiac disease, EGID doesn't always follow the stereotypical pattern of symptoms. While the esophagus is the most common location, eosinophils can... -
ARCHIVED Do We Need An Endoscopy?
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm still waiting on the results, but I remember the dr mentioning that he was ordering a ttg and IgA and something to make sure ds isn't IgA deficient. There may be more also. I'll request a copy of the report so will know more after it's been processed. -
ARCHIVED Do We Need An Endoscopy?
Staceyshoe replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I completely trust the knowledge of those who have been on this board for a while. I am satisfied that, if his blood panel is positive, it means he has celiac. Do you happen to know of any links that give info about the reliability of the blood test on a child? (If dh or other family members question me if the dr doesn't give an official diagnosis, I'd... -
ARCHIVED Do We Need An Endoscopy?
Staceyshoe posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Both my boys have had digestive issues from birth (different problems though). We did genetic testing on them just to see whether celiac is a possibility. My oldest (5 y.o.) ds tested positive for THE celiac gene and subtype most likely to result in the disorder. Since he's eating gluten now, we just went in for the blood panel. He's been on gluten-free... -
I would really like to get a blood panel for celiac done on my oldest. He odes have "the" celiac gene and has had some type of digestive issues all his life. His symptoms now are fairly mild and he does not have the stereotypical diarrhea. I emailed the pediatrician asking for a celiac panel on him since there is a family history. (I didn't mention that...

ARCHIVED Food Intolerances That Cause Diarrhea Other Than Gluten
Staceyshoe replied to catarific's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Have you gone through allergy testing? My ds gets diarrhea if he accidentally ingests one of the foods that he has an IgE allergy for. Diarrhea for him is most common after wheat or soy.
