  3. We just had my daughter (4) tested for celiac. The IgA came back <2 and the Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum came back as 119. So both negative.   4. Thanks Stephanie! My daughter's doctor called this morning and said he strongly urges us to switch her to gluten free. Turns out she has all eight (when you count the sub-markers?) of the genetic markers and so he said there's a much higher likelihood of her developing celiac in her lifetime and that by the time there's a biopsy diagnosis damage will already...

  10. He's one of the best things that has ever happened to me. In fact, I trust him with my celiac issues more than the GI . . . they aren't always easy to find, but if you can find an integrative and/or "functional" medicine doctor - DO IT.
  11. Actually, he did know about it. He's a great integrative physician and is the one who discovered the celiac even though I wasn't complaining of symptoms. He suggested waiting, though - said that until my blood tests for the celiac get to negative, it will be hard to tell what's causing what. So the plan is to revisit the idea in about 6-9 months.

  13. As far as I know, I don't have any symptoms at all. But I do have celiac, even without the symptoms. And my oh-so-bad health history (see below) leaves me not wanting to take chances. But gluten-free is a big adjustment in and of itself, so I don't want to force myself to cut anything else out unnecessarily.
  14. It has been recommended to me that I try and determine whether or not I also have allergies to dairy, soy and corn. But it isn't clear HOW to figure it out. One nutritionist suggested cutting them all out for several months and then reintroduce them one at a time. The gastro doc I saw said it isn't necessary at all, my pcp thinks it's a good idea but...
  15. I'm still new to this so all I know is that I need to do follow-up testing in 6 months. I plan to see a celiac specialist around that time and ask about continued testing.
  16. LOVE the dog idea! And while the second idea may be cruel, I did tell my cousin that I was happy she showed symptoms because it would help me know what to avoid. I really am not a horrible person - I swear!
  17. This is part of the confusion, though. My understanding from doctors and nutritionists is that EVERYONE is sensitive to cross contamination - some just don't have immediate outward symptoms (in my case, I'm really worried that the damage could be worse). I'm pretty sure I've read that the disease is equally sever for everyone, some of us just don't know...

  20. I don't react, and it has me stressed for two reasons: first, I'm worried that I won't know about cross-contamination and could be hurting myself without knowing it. And the second reason is that there are a few people in my life that insist that I shouldn't worry so much about cross-contamination since I don't have symptoms. They act as if I'm being paranoid...
  21. Looks like we are in the same boat. I am 8 days in, and have never had symptoms that I was aware of (as my signature shows, though, I've had my fair share of health issues). My husband and 2 year old still have some gluten, although not much. Thankfully, my husband is very supportive. I have to say, though, this sucks!!
  22. Yes, I meant immediate symptoms of being glutened. It's precisely because of the two cancers that I am concerned I won't know if I'm accidentally ingesting gluten and causing more damage.
  23. Wow, it really is crazy, huh? So I guess what I don't understand is whether or not gluten is effecting me the same way, even if I don't get the outward reaction . . . I keep get g mixed messages, since I see some people saying that you have to figure out what your tolerance is. Is there such a thing as gluten tolerance for someone with celiac?
