  1. Wow! Thanks for all of the ideas! I am in the process of trying to find a way to reach this woman to ask her personally what she normally eats (thanks for the idea, not sure why I didn't think of it)! All of the things you guys wrote sound great. I have passed them on to the people who will be doing the actual cooking (I stink at cooking)! Carrie...
  2. I am the mother and wife of celiacs, and so I have been recruited to help plan some meals for a speaker, who is a celiac, coming to a conference in our town. I am having trouble though, because her list of forbidden foods is much more expansive than my husband and daughter's. I am hoping maybe some of you might have some suggestions, and/or recipes! Here...
  3. Thanks for all of your input!

Any suggestions for a good book on dining and vacationing with Celiac?
  6. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac in early Dec. My husband and I both had our bloodwork done and mine was normal and my husband's was elevated. He then had a biopsy and it came back negative for celiac. He went on the gluten-free diet anyway, and noticed that he was less bloated, had more normal bathroom visits, and in general felt better. So the...
  7. Hi celiac3270, If it's not too much trouble, I would love the list as well. Thank you! auer_od@yahoo.com. Thanks so much!
  8. Oh, that makes life so much easier! Not only do I want my daughter's hands gluten free, but it's also nice to keep them germ free when she eating snack after a trip to the library, etc...Thanks!
  9. Thanks! We use soft soap, or Dove bar soaps, so we should be fine than!
  10. Thanks for your input everyone! The reaction seems to have passed. I'm pretty sure it was the dog food. Thanks!
  11. When preparing food for our celiac daughter, how well does soap and water clear my husbands and my own hands of gluten? We always wash between touching any gluten containing items and preparing her food, but is one wash sufficient, or should we wash multiple times? I'm asking because I know it is present on cookware sometimes, even when you can't see it...
  12. Does anyone know of a gluten-free hand sanitizer?
  13. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if any of you can share your, or your children's experiences with reactions. My daughter is only 2, and it is so hard for us to know what is going on with her, since she can't fully tell us. How long after gluten exposure does it take for a reaction to start? How long do reactions last? I am asking this to help us pinpoint...
  14. Wow! Thanks for all of your insight. I took Isabella in to have her bloodwork tested again today to see what her numbers are doing. After reading all of your posts I'm a bit overwhelmed, but at least can now see where some hidden gluten may be coming from...how about all those stickers they give her every time she sees a doctor! I guess we are just going...
  15. Thanks! We had a beautiful day here in Iowa today and I took my little one out without sunscreen for the first time in her life because I wasn't sure. Now tomorrow she can be safe from gluten AND the sun! Thanks!
  16. Does anyone know if we need to buy gluten-free sunscreen? And, if so, what brands are safe?
  17. We use Bob's Red Mill pancake mix and it's very good. We buy it at our local HyVee Healthmart section. It is a bit pricier than regular pancake mix, but it makes quite a few batches, so it's really not that bad...not like cereal or other snacks! Misty
  18. Wow! Thank you ALL for all of your advice and opinions. It was so interesting to read your personal experiences and then think about mine, first with our celiac disease daughter, and now with our bf-ing son. I nursed our celiac disease daughter until she was 1 year old. She was never a good nurser (later found out she had silent reflux), but did not start...
  19. I have recieved conflicting information on whether or not gluten is passed through breastmilk. Our dd has celiac and we just had another baby in January. Our pedi gi says keep gluten in the diet for the 1st year and then we can test to see if our son has celiac. I'm not comfortable with this, as I WILL not put him through everything his big sister has...
  20. Our daugther had her biopsy last December and was almost 2. It was very scary for us, as parents, but as the others have said, the procedure went very quickly, and she handled it very well. The hardest part for her was not being able to eat all morning before the sugery. I know how you feel though. I cried every night for the two weeks leading up to the...
  21. Jessica, Thanks so much for your reply. Here is a list of all I could think of that dd eats/uses. Bob's Red Mill Pancakes Ener G Gluten Free Pretzels Kinni Kwik Bread HyVee Instant Rice Ragu Spagetti Sauce Various Brands of Gluten Free Noodles (some corn, some rice) Sun Maid Raisins HyVee Sliced Cheese HyVee Large Curd Cottage Cheese Classico...
  22. Hello Everyone! I'm so glad to have found this board! My dd was diagnosed with Celiac in early December and has been gluten free since the day of her biopsy. Within a week we started noticing a difference in her behavior, and as the weeks passed she kept improving...it was like she was a totally different child! All of her symptoms went away and things...
