    ARCHIVED Dapsone Fail

Tried Dapsone for six days to see if it would help, but could not take the side effects. If it's even possible, I was actually itchier on the meds, had numbness in hands and feet, insomnia some nights, zombie-like stupor most of the day. I would rather be itchy and have all my faculties working, thank you very much. So there goes my trial of dapsone...
  2. I've not been diagnosed, so take this with a grain a salt (uniodised, of course!). I know it's DH, though. My rash started on my forearms over a year and a half ago, maybe even earlier. I thought it had to do with my job as a massage therapist - you know like an allergy to the lotions or gels we use. It was small red bumps, with larger ones thrown in...

    ARCHIVED Pre-Run Fuel?

Hi there, Another runner here, just completed my first full marathon one week ago. During training I'll drink a glass of chocolate milk and eat half a Lara bar before heading out for a run. Depending on the length of the run, I'll bring gels to take every 30 minutes. Pretty much all gels I've seen do not have any gluten, but they really vary in amounts...

ARCHIVED Any Good Doctors In The Gta?

Hi there, I'm also in GTA (Durham region), but I'm sorry to say my experience with doctors here hasn't been great. Could you try contacting the Canadian Celiac Association for the name of a competent Dr? I wish I could be of more help.
  5. It sounds like side effects are pretty common with this medication, unfortunately. Not really looking forward to a flare-up if it happens, but whatever. Yes, I did eat some tuna with the mayo. I never do think about the iodine part of the equation, and so far haven't done anything to figure out if that aggravates the rash at all. I just keep hoping...
  6. Thank you for all your responses. There really is a wealth of information to be found here. Almost 10 weeks gluten free, though the other day I made tuna salad for my son using a CC jar of Miracle Whip and licked the spoon afterward. Days later I am itchy as hell. Seriously, that minute amount can do that? I was thinking I may try the Dapsone after...
  7. I had read about the iodine connection here, but kind of dismissed it. I'm having more trouble wrapping my brain around no dairy and eggs than I did about removing gluten from my diet. I never put salt on my food, and mainly eat whole foods, but seriously, the dairy and eggs will be hard to give up. I did notice that my iron supplement has iodine in it...
  8. Biopsy came back negative, which did not surprise me since every other celiac related test has come back negative. Apparantly, being itchy and having my guts in knots is perfectly normal. He says there could be a false negative and prescribed me two months of Dapsone. The idea being if the rash goes away, it's positive for DH. If rash persists, it's...
  9. Hi Susan, I could have written most of your post. Your rash looks identical to mine, though mine is more forearms and back of calves and has been ongoing for almost two years. My mom has Celiac Disease and suggested it could be DH, and once I read about it I thought the symptom picture mostly fit. I saw a Dermatologist just last Monday, told him what...
