  1. Sorry Missy'sMom I didn't mean to come on all 'knowy' and I do realise you have been at this a lot longer than I have. However although I was only recently diagnosed, I have been trying to get the bottom of my condition for about 20 years or more *I honestly can't remember, its been going on so long*. Also I used to own a wholefood shop so I have...
  2. Hi Missy'sMom Poor you, I do empathise, its not easy being us, is it? However, there is hope. Apart from the flours already mentioned there are more: Banana flour Buckwheat flour Carob flour Chickpea flour - also called Gram or Garbanzo Millet flour Quinoa flour Rice flour Soya flour Its trial and error really using...
  3. I'm veggie and gluten/wheat free. I really miss a nice veggie 'sausage' for a sandwich.
  4. Go figure. I read somewhere that pea fibre is 'allergen free'. Oh please.
  5. Thanks! I was beginning to think it was just me.
  6. How much uncooked quinoa would that be?
  7. Hi everyone I am a vegetarian, trying to eat sufficient protein which is somewhat challenging given that I cannot tolerate Soy Protein and many pulses. At the end of last year my staple high protein, low fat food, Quorn, changed their recipe to include Pea Fibre. I quickly, and painfully, discovered that I had a problem with pea fibre. Has anyone...
  8. Thanks all, lots of ideas for me to go from. FS xx
  9. Hi I have just found a recipe for using a pizza base for a dessert. I've honestly never heard of this! Have any of you tried doing this, if so what kind of toppings would you use apart from chocolate spread which I've seen? Thanks - FS xx
  10. This sounds seriously good and will definitely be trying it. I don't like Cilantro but would put in some spices like ground chilli, cumin etc. Yummy. xx
  11. Thanks peeps. Flaked coconut a grand idea, but husband dislikes coconut, so think I shall stick with the rolled rice, quinoa and millet, and some seeds and fruit always go in anyway.
  12. Ah, I see we are divided by our common language. Thank you all so much, but especially to Auzzi, who has realised my mistake. Your recipe looks delicious and I shall certainly be trying it. As I don't use muesli, I think I shall try your mix. I thought perhaps rolled millet but I hadn't thought of rolled rice, I shall seek it out at the local...
  13. Hi I am beginning to bake again as my husband loves my home baking. I have successfully converted many of my favourite recipes, but I would love to make him some of my flapjack recipe. I don't wish to try gluten-free Oats as I am particularly sensitive and don't want to risk it. Has anyone tried using a different grain in flapjacks? FS xx
  14. I noticed a marked improvement almost straight away, but I did have lots of flare ups. I am still very sensitive to tummy bloat after 9 months gluten free. At first I found I was very sensitive to corn. Now, I'm okay with some products containing corn, but not others. I think it may depend, for me, on the quantity of corn in the product. I have just...
  15. I had this with my blood test just before Xmas. Doctor asked me to retest in three weeks time, left it till last week as I had a cold after Xmas. Test result today and tested 'normal'. I think I was just fighting a virus, perhaps you were too. Keep being alert (as we always have to be!) but try not to be alarmed, as your Dr is just trying to take care...
  16. I understand that Codex Wheat Starch is not permitted in the USA or in Canada, but it is in the UK. I certainly will be on making sure I am using both Gluten and Wheat Free now that I know about this wheat starch. FS xx
  17. Thank you both for your responses. I am pretty certain now that it was the codex wheat starch. I have spoken to both Juvela and Glutafin who are both sending me Gluten free, Wheat free samples. Lesson learned. I had a long talk with a friend, who was diagnosed with Coeliac 7 years ago. I hadn't spoken to her for a while (busy lives) but she popped...
  18. Hi Judy I am newly diagnosed but do know something about diet. More protein in your diet should help you feel more satisfied with your food and less prone to snack on starchy carbs. Recent thinking suggests that although for many years we were told that 50g of protein is sufficient for an adult, if we eat more protein it will keep the hunger pangs at...
  19. Hi all Result! I have my diagnosis. My specialist has labelled me as Non-antigen Coeliac, which I have translated to *we have not proved your diagnosis scientifically, but you have responded so well to the treatment that we actually believe you. This journey has taken me twenty odd years, I might add, so its a real result for me! I'm sure some of you...
  20. Hi I've noticed I'm getting an increased number of migraines since I stopped eating gluten. I was hoping that these would get less not more, but I have read that when you first remove gluten foods from your diet you can go through a kind of withdrawal. I've been off gluten for nearly four weeks, although in the first week I was accidentally glutened...
  21. Hi Thanks for the responses. Don't have much, just this one patch. I'm definitely not African American, very very pale skin. Dont ever sun bathe, don't ever use UV lights. Whatnext, I pretty much relate to what you are saying. My extensive list of other symptoms was completely ignored. I know they are gluten related (because of experience...
  22. I just made some yummy gluten free bean burgers, which I shall have with some (gluten-free) oven chips - well it is Friday! FS xxx
  23. Hi Sylvia Thank you for your response. I was able to see the doctor this afternoon. He was very helpful and quite understanding. He does not believe I have celiac disease, although he does believe I am probably non celiac disease gluten intolerant. Anyway, he has sent off a referral for me to see a GI specialist. Apparently both my tests were negative...
  24. Hi people I have mentioned that I am currently seeking diagnosis, so I am very interested in listing my huge array of symptoms for my doctor. I have a patch of vitiligo on my torso, close to my right hip bone. It has grown somewhat over the last year, and is now approx 30 cms sq. I have never done anything about this, its not bothering...
  25. Hi Last Wednesday I had my blood test done. At the time I checked with the nurse who took the sample what I was being tested for. He told me EMA, tTGA, Liver function and Thyroid function. This was as I had discussed with the doctor so was as I expected. I phoned up today and the receptionist didn't really know anything about my tests, but she said...
