ARCHIVED Failure To Thrive Prior To Celiac
M0Mto3 replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all the support. It isn't her size that concens me as much as the sadness that this may have permenantly effected her, does that make sense? I think you all are right, I just need to be patient. She is clearly healthy and clearly gaining. That is what is most important. I am healthy as a horse Sahm-i-am (I believe Celiac's is coming from... -
ARCHIVED Baby With Gluten Intolerance?
M0Mto3 replied to Amaya'sMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just looking through the aisles at mashed potatoes and they are not all gluten free. In fact, I am pretty sure the Betty Crocker ones had wheat. I ended up getting Idahoan(?). They say gluten free on the package and are pretty tasty. I didn't realize that my LO had issues with gluten until she was about 10 months. She took about 2 months to show... -
ARCHIVED Failure To Thrive Prior To Celiac
M0Mto3 replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks, everyone. I just have this fear that since her issues started since birth that she won't make up for that important early development. It is so hard to see her so little, particularly because her brothers have never even been below the 70th percentile for height or weight. I am trying not to stress, but spent so many months worried about her growing... -
ARCHIVED Failure To Thrive Prior To Celiac
M0Mto3 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was 10 months old when we fist suspected Celiac. She was faiure to thrive due to Celiac. Since being off gluten her weight percentages haven't gone up a ton (although they stopped dropping, yay!). Has anyone else had a baby who was failure to thrive due to Celiac's? I really want to know that she may catch up in growth at some point. Is there... -
ARCHIVED 2 Yo Recently Diagnosed - Looking For Some Feedback
M0Mto3 replied to semily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, it sounds like you made the right decision. I can understand 100% not wanting to put him through anything else. After putting my daughter back on gluten for 2 months and ending up with negative bloodwork I was just ready for her to be healthy again. It is nice to at least know that these little ones are getting healthy and gaining weight. This is... -
ARCHIVED Diabetes And Celiac
M0Mto3 replied to samie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is only 16 months, so right now we are not dealing with this. I am hoping that I can teach her to be responsible for her health. She only has Celiac's (but my husband has type 1 dm), but I think with both it is important to find positive ways to teach them to take control of this. Maybe someone else can suggest things that they have used... -
ARCHIVED Thinking Of Testing
M0Mto3 replied to kallen123's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It may be worth getting the bloodwork done. Although, I would immediately remove dairy from his diet. If he had a gi bug there is a good chance he has a temporary lactose intolerance from it. GI bugs kill off the top layer of cells in the small intestine and can cause temporary lactose intolerance. There is definately a higher probability that is what... -
ARCHIVED 5 Year Old Biopsy Today
M0Mto3 replied to kate12345's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am praying that you get answers. I would definately try the gluten free diet if I were you. It certainly won't hurt and hopefully it will help. -
ARCHIVED He Is Growing!
M0Mto3 replied to newmom07's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hooray! My 16 month old is gaining more since going gluten-free. I am hoping for a big growth spurt so that I don't have to even think about her weight anymore. -
ARCHIVED 2 Yo Recently Diagnosed - Looking For Some Feedback
M0Mto3 replied to semily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are currently without a diagnosis. I would do it if I were you. I just think in the end the official diagnosis would make things easier. Also, I am glad to hear this update. I am still debating going to the Celiac Center at CHOP. Makes me think it is worth it. Thanks for the update. -
ARCHIVED Dh On Formula Fed Infant?
M0Mto3 replied to anna34's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would think that this is pretty unlikely. First, I have never heard of a formula that contains gluten. Second, DH does not commonly affect very young children. I would ask the pediatrician if it could be something else. My daughter had an awful case of seborrhoeic dermatitis. It was these super irritated red areas all over her face. Here is the info... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is The Diagnosis?
M0Mto3 replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks, that is wonderful to hear. I do wish that he would diagnos it based on the genetic test, but he is not willing to do that. I know it is silly to care about the official diagnosis, but I hate saying "We think she has Celiac's". At this point I am really leaning toward taking her to the Celiac Center at CHOP. I am waiting for a call back from them... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is The Diagnosis?
M0Mto3 replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Honestly, that was my intial thought too. I scoured resources talking about IgA levels. I also find it interesting that at 10 months her IgA was 21 and the norm was 19-5?. So, the norm for her age went up 7 units and her IgA only went up 2 units in that time. Makes me wonder if it will continue to go up or if it will level off way before it should...... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is The Diagnosis?
M0Mto3 replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, that study is the exact light at the end of the tunnel I needed to see. She is still so young that testing like this will hopefully be utilized more by the time it is important for her. So, I tried to post her bloodwork awhile back and I acidentally deleted my post (grrr...). Here goes... She isn't IgA deficient (low, but not enough to be deficient... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Go To Chop?
M0Mto3 replied to M0Mto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was thinking the same thing. There is no point in fighting with the insurance company to get them to pay for something out of network and making a 3 hour drive if all they are going to say is that they need her to go back on gluten in order to diagnose her. I will not be doing that anytime soon. -
My daughter's current GI doc has her diagnosed "gluten sensitive". I know at this point that I will never put her back on gluten to get an official Celiac diagnosis. Her history is pretty long, but she definately can not handle gluten and was failure to thrive because of it. She is now happily off gluten after a 2 month gluten trial in which she did awful...

Thanks! She has been doing gummy vitamins and I haven't seen any symptoms that she is getting gluten.

Are there any kids vitamins that contain gluten? My daughter is not having any symptoms of being glutened with her current vitamin, but I don't always buy the same ones. I just wondered if there are any I should watch out for. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Stool
M0Mto3 replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are in the exact same boat right now. I put my 16 month old through a gluten challenge and ended up with negative bloodwork. I have no doubt that she has celiac's. As for pale stools, my LOs would look a very light tan. I actually did a lot of research to find out what "pale" stools were and this is what they are. She also had one clay colored stool... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is The Diagnosis?
M0Mto3 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We just ended a gluten trial and it was awful. DD, who is now just 16 months old, went back on gluten for 2 months after being off of it for 3 months. She did not tolerate it well and by the end was having 4-6 bms a day and was absolutely miserable. She was already diagnosed failure to thrive and her weight % dropped even further. So, every one (pediatrician... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing
M0Mto3 replied to Glutenfree4LJS's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My DD's GI doc told me that 38% of people have the gene that predisposes you to Celiac's. So, that is more than 1/3 people have the gene. That is a huge number compared to the people who actually end up with Celiac's. He would not do the gene testing on DD. My DH has type 1 diabetes, so chance are she has the gene anyway. -
My DD is 15 months old and is being tested for Celiac. She definately has issues with gluten, we are now just awaiting blood work to determine if she is gluten sensitive or truely has Celiac's. So, one of her tests has come back (on her online medical chart - it is a great feature at our hospital). Her IgA is flagged as Low. The range is 26-70something...

ARCHIVED Not Sure? Please Help.
M0Mto3 replied to norge4me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with the previous post that it certainly could be Celiac's. I would definately do the bloodwork and go to GI first. I removed gluten from my daughter's diet and now we are dealing with a 2 month gluten challenge. It has not been fun. -
ARCHIVED Going For Bloodwork Monday
M0Mto3 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My LO who has been struggling with failure to thrive goes Monday for her bloodwork after her gluten challenge. I took her off gluten 5 months ago. She was a different baby. The GI doc has had her back on gluten for the last 2 months and she is miserable. She had 6 bms initially and then seemed ok (she was irritable, though). Two weeks ago she started... -
ARCHIVED 7 Year Old Has Two +Ve Blood Tests
M0Mto3 replied to The Horticulturalist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My LO goes for her second set of bloodwork on Monday. She had a negative tTG a few months ago. She is only 15 months, so she probably won't have a positive tTG. I am really praying for a positive result, since we have been struggling with her for a long time. Me and her ped are 100% convinced that is what is going on. I am hoping the GI doc can confirm...
