About Me

I'm an Engineer and a Nature/Scenic/Wilderness Photographer.

I went gluten free in April 2011. My life-long migraine headaches seem to be gone. Big sigh of relief that came 40 years later than it should have. B)

  1. Josh, a couple things here... 1) how did you go gluten-free? Was it by removing gluten, or by substituting gluten free alternative products for the things you used to eat that had gluten in them? Could be a reaction to something new you have added to your diet to replace the gluten-laden previous menu items. Things like soy products, more dairy, etc....
  2. This just occurred to me while reading some other posts. I'm new to the whole celiac thing (gluten free for two months now). I just wondered if it is common for some people to more or less intentionally eat a plate full of pasta or their favorite bread or something and then go to the bathroom and get rid of it right away? I'm not considering it and...
  3. Wow, they are $12 each! Maybe just once in a while for something you really love and miss but which refuses to put "gluten free" on the label. Otherwise, it is easier to just eat something that is known to be safe. Keep in mind that things which don't seem to have any gluten ingredients in them, but don't say gluten free are subject to cross-contamination...
  4. Hang in there! On the migraines...I have been a life-long migraine sufferer. I had a few weeks of bad withdrawal symptoms of various kinds...but I'm happy to report that in my eighth week now I've not had any headaches in three weeks now. That is truly amazing for me! So it will get better, and even better than before gluten-free.
  5. What does the "gluten free cycle" do differently from regular bread-making?
  6. Some of us have a situation about that time where our intestinal nerves seem to be healing and sending tons of long dormant info to our brains, confusing the heck out it. For me, starting around 6 weeks, it was like static on a radio that is not tuned to a station turned up real loud. Just constant bombarding my consciousness with a bunch an unchanging...
  7. It seems I have found some answers to my question right here on celiac.com This article about how little it takes to cause damage was quite an eye opener. I guess I'll skip the whole crouton a day idea and hope for the best on low sensitivity after healing. thanks celiac.com!
  8. Thanks for all the responses so far. I would specifically be very interested to hear how long it took for those that had severe weight loss to stop loosing and start gaining weight back. (that's my biggest problem right now) thanks!
  9. Thanks zero. An interesting read in wikipedia, but not exactly what I'm thinking. Hormesis appears to carry with it the notion of a positive overall effect on health despite the small toxic effect of a small amount of a toxin. I'm not thinking beneficial effect, just thinking vanishingly small negative effect (thimble full of gasoline ) weighed against...
  10. Hi Everyone, I'm a new guy here, but in my short time watching I see an extraordinary number of posts about how gluten-free people get more sensitive to gluten over time after they have been gluten-free for years. I'm wondering if the topic has been discussed before of finding some very small amount of daily gluten intake that somehow falls between zero...
  11. Thanks all. Wow, as a new guy reading all this it seems to me you guys must have had your patience grow back long before your villi did. jp
  12. I've seen such a huge range of times that it takes for people to feel better after going gluten-free. It is really frustrating not having any idea. Is there any consensus on what is "typical", rather than the horror stories of how long it might take? Not asking how long to be fully healed, but just how long it typically takes to feel "ok" with no major...
  13. Hi, I'm brand new here. Actually was lurking on and off for a few weeks but just joined today. Brief introduction: 50 yr old guy who got obese late in life. Had a gastric bypass (MGB style - www.clos.net) 2 years ago. It actually worked way too well. Weight went way too low. Finally realized it was the bypass coupled with celiac disease. Recent...
