About Me

My name is Michelle and I'm 23. I live in Kentucky, where I am a full-time student majoring in Special Education.

Ever since infancy, I have had stomach troubles. I was diagnosed with IBS-A when I was about 12 years old. At age 19, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. In March 2011, I learned that I'm lactose intolerant, so now I take lactase supplements before eating anything with dairy in it and lactose-free milk is the only milk I drink now.

In May 2011, I have learned more about celiac and the gluten free diet. As a result, I have paid more attention to how my body reacts to gluten (it's not pleasant). I'm waiting to find out if my insurance will cover celiac testing. I want to get tested to find out if I am in fact celiac, as it explains so many of my symptoms. I would hope to get tested sometime during the summer of 2011.

  1. Since they asked, I would go ahead and tell them. I would be sure to explain the cross-contamination issue. If they can't or won't accommodate you (even after they asked their guests to tell them about food issues), then definitely eat before the event or take some gluten free snacks with you.
  2. I'm new to this celiac and gluten free stuff. Last week, a nurse practitioner suggested that I could have celiac and that we should check into testing. I have United Healthcare insurance (through my dad). Does anyone have United or know if they cover celiac testing; I read on a few threads here that celiac is an automatic coverage denial with United (which...
  3. I am able to eat Santitas White Corn Triangle Tortillas without any issues. They're made by Frito-Lay and from what I can tell most of their tortialls contain sunflower oil.
  4. My periods have always been irregular. I could seriously go up to 6 months without having a single one. When I was put on thyroid medication, they became more regulated, but they still weren't on a monthly cycle. I haven't tried a gluten free diet, so I don't know what will happen when I go gluten free.
  5. He could have celiac. I've also heard of people who gave up gluten (not for medical reasons) and then after a while, would feel sick after eating gluten again.
  6. Yes! I've been getting the headaches a lot lately, including one tonight. I'm new to this whole celiac and gluten deal, so I never recognized the symptoms before. Mine feels almost like a sinus headache. I generally take some Excedrin, but that doesn't really do anything, I just have to wait it out. Tonight, it was hurting on the right frontal lobe side....
  7. Nurse practitioner is looking to see if my insurance covers celiac testing. I sure hope so, to get an answer!
