ARCHIVED Eating Out In Worcester, Ma
macman replied to jessika393's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I live in worcester-hopefully this will help: 1) outback in auburn 10 minutes away 2) two restaurants: 111 Chophouse and the Sole proprieter (sp) are owned by the same folks and have done well by me when I explain my needs. Most (all?) or the salads at the Sole dont come with croutons anyway. I get the greek salad, a piece of grilled fish (no... -
I had a worrisome experince at Legal's after my OP, went there for dinner and they served me rice pilaf in stead of the jasmine rice. The manager was very embarassed and said it was the first time it ever happened. This reinforced that no matter where you go-the only way to not get glutened for SURE is to cook it yourself. on the whole though I eat so...

ARCHIVED Question For The Non-celiac Spouses...
macman replied to frenchiemama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This thread is interesting.... My wife and I have discovered that eating gluten-free is very healthy and forces us to cook more. She keeps some regular bread around and uses a sep. toaster and other than that we eat all the same stuff (gluten-free pasta, steak, rice, veggies). I do not understand the problem described above with spouses wanting non... -
yep-they have chicken too-just went there tonight-excellent place

For those in the boston area-Legal Sea Food has a gluten-free menu!!!! (there is also one at the airport for you travelers. They even have a gluten-free calamari which is coated in corn meal and pan fried instead of deep fried, they also have gluten-free breadcrumbs for fish dishes!

I am surprised you stayed there and gave them any of your money. I had a frustrating experience at a Tony Roma's in NV. Their website say they are gluten-free. The restaurant said no-so I said bye-bye and told them I was headed to Outback. Sorry you had that experience....

i agree with above-I only order those items that have no substituions and I berate the waiter in a nice way to let them know that it's extremely important
-
Exactly! Apparently they don't understand how important this is or how many people out there are affected. I never ate at a Outback in my life until I started a gluten-free diet and since then I've spent a lot of $$$ there!

Hello all: I would like to ask those in this forum (and your friends/family) to help convince this restaurant chain start a gluten free menu. I have cut/pasted my email exchange with them below. You can see they are not in a rush to have a gluten-free menu (but maybe they are starting?). Please help by sending them an email and asking them to gring...

I doubt that "vinegar" on a USA label translates to apple cider vinegar, where did you get this info. My guess would be "vinegar" means white/distilled/grain vinegar. -
My family is going to Puerto Rico, most specifically the Rincon area. Any tips from someone who has been there?????

Thats pretty funny!!! That is actually a running joke b/y me and my non-celiac disease but very understanding friends. I have been asked so many times at a restaurant AFTER explaining the whole deal whether I want bread/croutons/etc. I have noticed that the waitstaff at outback is improving. "would you like your bread later" ??? Da Funk!?
-
My guess would be the chicken (like a lot of chicken out there!) contained a broth/flavoring which had gluten in it. I am very careful at the grocery store when buying chicken, pork, and certainly brats/sausage.

My solution to this is I always put myself in charge of the entree and specifically tell others what they should bring if I'm hosting. If not-then I'll eat before I go (like I did for a wedding this past weekend) or I'll bring a little something and then offer to grill all the food so I can control how mine is cooked. The host usally appreciates the help...

I vote for Kinnikinnick, they have a sunflower seed bread that is excellent, and as stated above I always toast it, also makes excellent grilled cheeses! Their donuts are pretty good too... -

I am a new poster here but have been reading for a few months I currently reside in Des Moines and we have a big brand here called "AE" or "anderson erickson" dairy. I always used to enjoy there yogurts (key lime!!!) and stopped since I was unsure about "natural flavors" Here is the email they sent me: I hope thats helpful to someone!
