  1. I had the tomato-basil bread. It was expensive and it completely fell apart after only 1 day in the fridge. HOWEVER, the taste is very good and if you put butter on it and then toast (to keep it moist) it stays together. Devon Chicago, IL
  2. I made my first gluten-free loaf in my new breadmaker last night! The top did cave in just a little bit, but I think it was due to too much water. Anyway, I followed the order the instructions for my breadmaker gave: wet ingredients first, then salt, sugar, and other dry ingredients, then make a small hole in dry ingredients for yeast to sit in. The instructions...
  3. I was diagnosed with IBS (the C part came later ) 6 years ago and fianlly discovered the real problem about 2 months ago through a lot of research and seeing a GI specialist. It seems to me that doctors call gut problems IBS when they don't know how else to diagnose... like IBS is the umbrella gut diagnosis. Just my 2 cents.
  4. I had Steak and Shake last weekend for the first time since going gluten-free. It was awesome! They have quite a few gluten-free choices, according to their website. I was so happy I could finally have some of their awesome chili again!! And I even had a hot fudge sundae.. yum! Devon Chicago, IL
  5. I've actually found that the Food For Life Brown Rice Bread is excellent. I just tried Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakery Sun Dried Tomato, but it was terribly dry. It completely fell apart while I was eating it just a couple days after I bought it. But the FFF bread stays moist. I'll admit it's a little chewy, but toasting helps and I'd take that any day over...
  6. I am new to the gluten-free diet but have decided to go ahead and get the breadmaker early and go that route instead of paying $5 a loaf. Does anyone have advice on a good one to get for our special dough and where to get it? I was thinking about the Ultimate Breadman Bread Maker that goes for $100 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Thoughts? Also, what are the...
  7. Very good point. Are there any other pre-packaged meats that people would recommend? Also, if turkey is the most difficult meat to digest, what is considered the easiest? I'm going to forego the turkey for now and see if that's causing the problem. Thanks so much! Devon
  8. Does anyone know what specific brands of meat sold in the deli (not processed; fresh meats sliced to order) to avoid or which ones are gluten-free? I usually just get whatever turkey is on sale, but I think there is something in my diet causing problems. The turkey is one of the last questionables on my list. Thanks! Devon
  9. I just bought Barbara's Bakery Puffins Peanut Butter from my local Jewel grocery store. I didn't have a reaction, but it's only wheat free, not gluten free, apparently because it contains oat flour in the ingredients. It was definitely yummy if your tummy can handle it! If not, Barbara's also makes other cereals that are gluten-free.
