    When my daughter made her First Communion she had the wine, and does every week. I did not want to get into the low-gluten host, but ifyou do and it will be a couple of times only it probably will not matter. It is likely a child will ingest gluten at some point.If I were to use the host I would wait and see if there is a reaction after the First Communion...

    celiac3270 and Kati are correct about the reactions being varied. I think it is hard with kids because they do seem to get more stomach aches and such than adults. When my daughter complains of these symptoms I automatically think of gluten and go nuts trying to figure out what she ate. Sometimes a stomach ache is just a stomach ache.     If I knowthe menu ahead of time I send my daughter with gluten-free versions so she has the same types of food.     Kati is correct about the food starch and The gluten-free Bible. I would never recommend that. I guess one could take a chance and hope the starch is gluten-free but it is dangerous.

    I would not worry about offending your hosts if they are not worried about giving you gluten! People who care about you will want you to be healthy! I would not be offended if someone asked me about what I put in my food.

    Thanks for that info. Unlike some of others, I like LaChoy(uh oh, I'm an outcast), but depending on where I get it, it can be expensive. How is the taste? I have found that most of the WalMart food is not such a Great Value because I throw it away because of the taste!

    As for the modified food starch, you need to find out from the manufacturer about the gluten-free status-how shocking, huh? Ask what type of starch it is and hope for corn!
