  1. Thank you for the recipe. I think I am going to get an ice cream maker. I think my daughter will love it. Are all of the rock salts gluten-free? I do not know exactly what one I will get and the rock salt has been a concern. Do you find it is available year round? We had a Rival when I was little, but stopped using it because we had trouble finding the salt...
  2. Oh, in case someone does not have the CSA website info, it is www.csaceliacs.org.
  3. I did a search and did not see a posting on this. In RI there is a strictly gluten-free camp for children. It is run by a local support group. I thought someone might want to send their child or children. All the information can be found on the CSA website. I have never sent my daughter because I live in a beach community and cannot see sending her away from...
  4. Sorry, I obviously meant "grill", nor "frill" plate. I am horrible typist!
  5. Viola, Is the frill plate you mentioned available in most stores? It seems like a wonderful idea for when the grill is not cleaned, like in the middle of a cookout. I could put my daughters food on it and she would not have to wait. Also, do you know the brand name and where you got it? I hope this is not an inconvenience. If it is, I understand if you do...
  6. I agree that the search feature should be displayed a little differently. It seems that would cut down on some of what celiac3270 mentioned. The only drawback I forsee is that someone could take it as being unwelcome, or that their questions are not important. I do not think this is intentional because everyone here IS willing to answer questions, but I would...
  7. Thanks for the list. I was able to download yours.
  8. If someone tries the cookie dough ice cream could you please post how it comes out? Maybe note any problems? I think my daughter would love cookie dough ice cream. Of course, I suppose I could stop being lazy and try this myself, but I do not want to invest in an ice cream machine if I won't be using it, and I will but one if I can get her cookie dough ice...
  9. When my daughter made her First Communion she had the wine, and does every week. I did not want to get into the low-gluten host, but ifyou do and it will be a couple of times only it probably will not matter. It is likely a child will ingest gluten at some point. If I were to use the host I would wait and see if there is a reaction after the First Communion...
  10. celiac3270 and Kati are correct about the reactions being varied. I think it is hard with kids because they do seem to get more stomach aches and such than adults. When my daughter complains of these symptoms I automatically think of gluten and go nuts trying to figure out what she ate. Sometimes a stomach ache is just a stomach ache. This sounds very UNhelpful...
  11. I was starting to think I went off the deep end with the changes! I thought it was in my head. I think the term newbie comes off as demeaning. Change can be good.
  12. If I knowthe menu ahead of time I send my daughter with gluten-free versions so she has the same types of food. After awhile though, she got to the point where she did not mind not having the same food. She has her moments though! Now she is 11 and a bit old for birthday parties, but when she was younger many of her friends asked her what she wanted because...
  13. I just got back from WalMart and could not find the sauce. I got the LaChoy elsewhere. Maybe just the supercenters carry it.
  14. Shelia, I have found that it is very difficult to find good tasting gluten-free foods without spending lots of money! My daughter hates almost everything from EnerG, especially the rice bread. However, she LOVES Food for Life rice bread. Lately though, we have noticed it has been quite crumbly. She also likes homemade rice bread. As for pasta, if you do...
  15. Thank you! My address is lac69@cox.net. I actually went to the site, but for some reason I could not download the list. I think I will have to try on my desktop if I cannot get it from you. In case anyone is interested, the CSA/USA producy listing is $25, 370 pages, and full of helpful info on contacting companies, eating out, the diet, etc. It is worth...
  16. Kati is correct about the food starch and The gluten-free Bible. I would never recommend that. I guess one could take a chance and hope the starch is gluten-free but it is dangerous.
  17. Oh, this does sound similar to the list from CSA/USA. I like to have a few of the lists because it gives more variety as far as choices go. Sometimes brands are available in only certain areas of the country so I cannot get them everyday. However, it is nice to know the names of different brands available in other parts of the country when I travel. Is Delphi...
  18. Thanks. What is Delphi? I have read the name in other posts, but do not know what it refers to, as far as celiac disease is concerned.
  19. Hi Shelia, I feel for you because of your Twizzlers cravings. What really sucks is that they used to be gluten-free! My daughter was ripped when the ingredients changed! To cope with the cravings in our house, we look for regular food we can eat-nothing from the health food stores or natural food section of the supermarket! When my daughter brings a national...
  20. I would not worry about offending your hosts if they are not worried about giving you gluten! People who care about you will want you to be healthy! I would not be offended if someone asked me about what I put in my food.
  21. Thanks for that info. Unlike some of others, I like LaChoy(uh oh, I'm an outcast), but depending on where I get it, it can be expensive. How is the taste? I have found that most of the WalMart food is not such a Great Value because I throw it away because of the taste!
  22. Are these similar to Hoodsies?
  23. It seems like oats are one of those topics that will always cause a big debate, or question, on whether or not they are safe. I have heard of people being fine and others getting sick. I thought that most of the celiac support groups in the US recommend avoiding oats, so it is surprising that someone speaking on celiac disease would not concur. Perhaps the...
  24. Is this list similar to the product list from CSA/USA?
  25. As for the modified food starch, you need to find out from the manufacturer about the gluten-free status-how shocking, huh? Ask what type of starch it is and hope for corn!
