    I agree - my son doesn't even go through the lunch line, I send absolutely everything from home. I worry that if he thinks he can have "something" he'll think he can have "everything". Good luck - can you speak to the Principal or whoever is in charge of the cafeterias at County level?

    My son's Gastro mentioned this as we left his office on Thursday and I was so underwhelmed with all the other information and results we got that day that I didn't ask any many questions as I should have, but basically... he said that there is a pill being tested that's probably 5 years away from FDA approval that would counteract the effects of gluten...

    I'm very wary. A lot of places have no idea about cross-contamination so while the actual ingredients might be gluten-free, the prep area or utensils might not be.

    All of these responses are great, and I was in the exact same position as you almost 4 years ago. I thought I had it all under control - I made my son's sandwiches with gluten free bread and thought "well this isn't too hard!" and then I found out about cross contamination and had to start over.     Our concern is ingestion, but we don't have it in the house or anywhere near Adam. He puts everything in his mouth (he has severe pica - just got a call this morning that his zinc level is VERY low so he's being put on 110mg zinc sulphate to see if that helps) so it would, without a doubt, end up in his mouth.

    My son was completely 'normal' until I started him on solid foods, then he became lethargic, withdrawn, OCD from a very young age (sorting colors, lining up food, which was harmless but then he started banging his head on walls which was not so harmless.) Then the vomiting started - undigested food, a days worth at a time, projectile with stomach cramps...
