  1. Perhaps it's a stage I'm in. I read somewhere (I forget the link - I'll post it if I find it) a diagram of stages when on the gluten free diet. There's a range of things like relief, denial, anger, frustration, then acceptance. I still don't feel perfect, which may be why I'm a bit annoyed. I don't seem to have any other food issues. I just had white...
  2. Hi, I'm still so very new to this big gluten free diet and it often stresses me. I've heard that damage is often present years after in adults and am concerned I will never fully heal my gut even being gluten free. My antibody levels are still high, having recently found out despite being on the gluten free diet and I'm still not feeling better. I was...
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the genes something you possess from birth to death? I was thinking you always will have and have had double DQ8.
  4. What do you mean by "absolutely ZERO AGA"? And also would the DQ8 genes possibly be a result of no AGA? Which test did you use, was it EnteroLab or the blood test?
  5. When I look online at others' blood test results, I often see that the tTG/EMA/DGP values are lower than that of AGA. Sometimes the tTG/EMA/DGP values are well within the normal range when AGA values are up in the 50s. With other cases I've seen AGA values 1 or 2 digits lower than tTG values when they're both up in the 100s. Is it possible to have...
  6. Yes total IgA is normal. It was in the middle (I can't remember what number) of the range. They were AGA IgG negative. This was all by a blood test.
  7. The questions may sound confusing. But what I'm trying to find out is if I'm still having damage to my gut, even though I'm strictly on a gluten free diet. My doctor told me that over 50% of celiacs don't make a full recovery, even when on a strict gluten free diet, which is the reason for the vaccine. Sometimes I wonder if the immune system may 'more...
  8. tTG IgA and DGP IgA and IgG are all within normal range.
  9. Gee, well now I'm a bit scared. Here were my recent test results (from a while back) DIABETES MASTER Insulin 5 mU/L fasting (< 25) Glucose 5.0 mmol/L fasting (3.0-6.0) My doctor said that 4.0 mmol/L would be something he'd like to see me down at in the future now that I'm...
  10. Just earlier today, we found out that my mother and aunt had positive AGA IgA gliadin antibodies but negative IgG gliadin antibodies. This apparently is a very unusual reading but their stools have often been white in recent times. The doctor really wasn't sure what this meant but about once a month they get massive stomach cramps that make them pass out...
  11. I'm 23 so that may explain some of it.
  12. Oh dear! Perhaps I should stay away from dairy then too (to help avoid onset of T1 diabetes)? I didn't realise I would still have a leaky gut.
  13. Alright I'll leave the whole thing alone then. Seems odd how something as harmless as barley can hurt us so badly. Still new so I'll get used to it.
  14. Do most cases of celiac begin by a leaky gut? I've heard that the gut leaks, wheat proteins get into the bloodstream and then the body attacks them but I don't know how it goes from there. Also if I avoid gluten and keep my gut in really really good condition for 10-20years is it likely that I'd outgrow it? I find the diet daunting but manageable. My...
  15. What test should I ask from my doctor (I'm in NZ) to get tested for T1 diabetes antibodies? I recently had a full blood count and things were within normal range.
  16. I asked my relatives who also have T1 and they said there was absolutely no 'tingling' or odd sensations felt in the pancreas area prior to diagnosis either. I thought there would be seeing as though celiac can be co painful for some. Perhaps there aren't as many nerves connected to the brain or something. Is it also possible that some members of the family...
  17. Thanks for this. I've heard other ingredients like wheat glucose syrup are safe but haven't tried them yet. I also heard lindt milk chocolate only has 3.6 ppm gluten so was going to try that and see how I go. Maybe I'm just really sensitive. The mars bar I don't know that necessarily damaged my intestines, or did it? For an amount that small just once...
  18. It was a large size. i didn't want to get bite-size ones since if I reacted I didn't want to be stuck. Other people say they don't react to them at all. Lindt says their chocolate with malt in it only has 3.6ppm so I'd like to see how that goes sometime. <20ppm is safe isn't it?
  19. I'm better today than I was yesterday. Gluten reactions seem less predictable than others. I just didn't realise it could affect my sinuses so much. It doesn't appear to have spread to the skin, so hopefully I didn't do much damage. The amount of barley malt was only equivalent to the amount of cocoa mass in the chocolate that covers it and I think the malt...
  20. When people get type 1 diabetes, do they feel 'tingling' in their pancreas? My sister told me she thinks she could feel hints of it in the area. Yesterday I had a mars bar with barley malt in it. I didn't really feel that unwell from it but I noticed I had monetary 'tingles' in my intestines which seem to occur after gluten. I also had a slightly stuffy...
  21. Today I decided to expose myself to 'just a little bit' of gluten. I ate a mars bar. Although I knew it contains barley malt I decided I had to have it. I wanted to see how and whether I would react to that small amount. I was sick from lunch (due to the chilli chicken, which was gluten free) so I thought I might just have my mars bar and eat it too at...
  22. Both my new husband and I have agreed that we should not allow any regular flour in the house. We're not totally gluten free, as he has normal bread but we have separate toasters and condiment pots, etc. I know other people who have celiacs in their household but keep flour on hand in case they want to bake regular items for the rest of the family when their...
  23. Open Original Shared Link I'd like to hear your thoughts on this and also whether trying to restore optimal levels of microbiome may help me not react as badly to gluten? Looking back, I was born via cesarean. My mom doesn't appear to have celiac disease but I definitely do. How would I go about being tested for this and what are your thoughts, I...
  24. Hi, Dr. McDougall says dairy and type 1 are linked. The amino acids in milk protein are the same as those on the pancreas cells that produce insulin, apparently. Because I am celiac my local physician told me I'm even more likely to have type 1. Should I eliminate dairy from my diet? I don't have any problems with it so far. Yet it seems...
  25. The honeymoon was a success! Not once was I ill. Didn't have internet for the time I was away, so just saw the replies now. Thanks so much for your support (and not just leaving it for me to do 'whatever'). I keep wondering 'what if'. I need to stop and be sensible. But everyone has been so accommodating and supportive. Now, hopefully I may live...
