  1. What's the difference between subtypes 2.5, 2.2 and 2.3 for the hla-dq gene and which resembles intolerance to oats. My doctor told me it's likely to be dq2.2 I haven't been tested for genes yet but just really was curious.
  2. Isn't the homeopathic product by the endocrinologist in tulsa (I think it was called Intestinal Calm) useful in treating celiacs? There was a whole review on this and I'm really really interested in trying it out. Trouble is its not fad approved. Has anyone else here heard of it or knows of its ability to desensitise people from gluten? Open Original Shared...
  3. Thanks everyone for being so supportive. The day came and it was absolutely great. I feel so guilty now for contemplating eating a normal cake. The gluten free wedding cake was so good. We didn't even tell anyone else I'm celiac, only the venue staff knew and everything served was gluten free. Had it not been for this forum I don't think we would...
  4. Didn't Dr Fasano say that zonulin levels were higher in those with celiac? I read about 'zonulin blockers'. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't zonulin the component that breaks gluten down into what the body recognises? Maybe if I had some idea of what caused celiac I'd be able to discern it better.
  5. I've heard that zonulin blockers may be an answer to celiacs but I wondered whether this would help restore tolerance to gluten. I've just found out I'm celiac and heard that the celiac reaction cannot occur if zonulin is absent. On the other hand, would the body suffer if zonulin wasn't being produced. I hear it causes leaky gut
  6. Thank you for all your replies. We got something sorted today. The whole cake will be gluten-free and will have the same design. We were referred to a retired cake decorator and baker who'd had experience in gluten-free and she said she'd be willing to do it just this once. The cost will be about double that of the original, but that's ok. Great someone...
  7. Here's are two videos by Rodney Ford. It's definitely worth the 10 minutes in total or so to watch them because he talks about a girl who is in a similar situation to yours. The second one talks about various gluten tests and how they work. Are false negatives worse with labs than the biopsy? I'd say if the original poster...
  8. It's a question we all ask ourselves. I had the whole lot done except for the gene test. I was positive for tTG as well as IgG Gliadin and had a positive endoscopy. Your case doesn't sound as serious as mine. You may have a normal biopsy as a matter of fact due to tTG being normal.
  9. Aren't some hot water bottles filled with wheat? I just can't not eat the cake. I want to have what everyone else is having It's too late by now anyway. Usually my reactions are over within 12 hours. I don't think it would be more than 24-48 hours and we'll be flying over to Spain for the honeymoon 2 days later. Maybe I'll try and strengthen my...
  10. Ok so it seems like the ones I mentioned aren't all. Someone should make a web page and list all the 'celiac cure' scams they can find on this page and tell people to add more to the page as they find them perhaps. Thanks for the assurance. I loved how you went on and on with the 'ifs'. I'm afraid to say that IF all of my 'ifs...
  11. Thanks for this. I'll have to give it more of a look into. My mom now plans to go gluten free to protect herself. What do you think about this idea? Also is it more likely that I got the hla-dq2 or hla-dq8 ? I'm curious about the odds you'd come up with.
  12. I don't think I'd take the drug but I heard that a homeopathic remedy from Dr. Wise's along with his Glandular Calm made in Tulsa may be interesting to try out. I've heard some very good recounts of this online and they use enterolab testing. Also, it seems as though we either have celiac or we don't. I'm still quite new but I think I'd be willing to try...
  13. Thanks for your replies. Just another question: Is it only possible for you to have two HLA-DQ genes? (i.e. my mom has hla-dq2 and hla-dq8 does that mean she won't have any other hla-dq gene? (e.g. hla-dq3, hla-dq4, etc.)
  14. How do "gluten free" sourdough breads turn out? (i.e. ones started from a sourdough starter). Are they normally better in taste and quality than the awful yeast-risen stuff?
  15. My mom doesn't seem to have celiac disease yet (unlike me). She's been feeling well and healthy to date. Is it likely (i.e. what are the chances) that she might become celiac? Also is DQ2.5 different to DQ2?
  16. My mom has both celiac hladq genes (hla-dq 2,8). Does this mean that I'd definitely have at least 1, both or none?
  17. Hi, I was diagnosed with celiac very recently and used to make sourdough bread every weekend. I no longer do. But I read Open Original Shared Link and it seems it can be. How could/should I go about this?
  18. Thanks for your replies. I was worried as my doctor told me to imagine that next croissant being my type 1 diabetes as he seems to think there's a connection. From what I see elsewhere it seems like long term complications from celiac are unlikely on just one occasion. Especially if I only have one piece and since I was only diagnosed recently. I...
  19. It could be Fructose malabsorption that's bothering you (i.e. apples, honey and onion to name a few). I find that eliminating all foods other than plain rice noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner works well sometimes.
  20. I have these results below for my diabetes: My GP said that 4.0 for glucose is a more desirable figure. May this have something to do with recovering from celiac disease. I was only diagnosed a couple of weeks ago, but didn't have tTG and got a negative biopsy.
  21. OUCH! Probably best to stick to the gluten-free diet!
  22. Thanks for this, Alice! Getting the texture of a chocolate cake close to what I was used to seems to be the holy grail of gluten free cooking. It gets on my nerves sometimes, so would love to get myself this book. Especially seeing as though I'm down in NZ, which makes it a bit hard to get a hold of Pure Pantry mixes anyhow...!
  23. If I remember correctly, Dr. Rodney Ford says celiacs is a disease of the brain and not the gut. That was perhaps why I thought mind power may work. Thinking more deeply about it though, it seems unlikely.
  24. Fructose malabsorption is a common problem for celiacs after going gluten free. BE CAREFUL and don't eat too much fruits and vegetables. Plain rice noodles with some sunflower oil poured on them after boiling works well! Make sure you eat a safe, simple diet for now!
  25. Then there's the celiac vaccine coming out. I really don't want to follow this gluten free diet if I don't have to. If there's anything I've suggested above that you think may work, then please let me know. Dr Wise's gluten relief seems to be a good solution but I never heard of it before I saw a video on it.
