  1. Stephanie, I wish your husband all the luck and hope he sticks to it. Its not going to be easy. My parents are alcoholics so I've seen it firsthand. I forgot about the charcoal - tried it before and it definitely helped. Zakismom - doesn't it make you feel a bit better to know you're not alone? Just a bit though - would still like to have a...
  2. Used to get it when I suffered anxiety attacks. Now it happens every time I get glutened which is not too often thank goodness! Yvonne
  3. Stephanie, That is really interesting and makes perfect sense to me. You have done the intelligent thing and stopped completely. I had 2 small glasses of red wine on Thursday night last week, woke up at 12.55 and didn't go back to sleep. I was so sick and nauseous the next day, I had to leave work half way through the day. Its just not worth...
  4. Hi Jen, THANK YOU SO MUCH. As Mandigirl said it is really kind of you to go to all that trouble for me. I will look into ALL those options. Yes shipping costs can be very expensive but if I order quite a bit at a time it won't be too bad. I really appreciate your help. I do share a toaster. I had read on this site not to but a nutritionist...

ARCHIVED Dr. Thinks Everything Is Ibs

Hi jcgirl, I may be way off here but I get exactly the same pain but on my left side - every time I get glutened. Its a sharp pain just under my ribs - takes my breath away at times its so sharp. However, as Jen says you definitely need to rule out something more serious. With regards to parasites - you are right to be concerned about this...
  6. Claire, I am very interested in this plan you mentioned as I feel pretty much like the others. If you have the time, please give us the general idea. Thanks a lot. Yvonne
  7. You're a star Jen. Have a great weekend. Yvonne
  8. Hi Jen, Yes South Africa is absolutely beautiful and we have the most incredible weather here where I live on the coast. The crime is horrendous though. I am not sure how to increase my fibre to be honest. To me fibre was always bran! No I haven't replaced my shampoos and makeup because I can't find anyone to help me here. I have tried phoning...

    ARCHIVED Gf Burn-out

Lisa, I totally relate to what you are going through. I'm a newbie too - some days I feel great and some days I think I just can't do this! Its so frustrating and tiring. I get really down and depressed at times especially when I'm in a hurry, juggling work and kids. In the old days I would just grab a pre-packed sandwich or a sausage roll at the...
  10. Thanks so much everyone for your replies and advice. Nantzie I get a senna tea here called 'Blackforest'. It does work but as soon as a miss it once - I go right back to being constipated. My problem is that things don't start working on their own after using something - as soon as I stop taking anything I get constipated again straight away....
  11. Hi Debmidge, Thanks for your reply. I am a bit addicted to water. Had to learn to cut down. I drink on average 2-3 litres a day. I think I will need to have some tests done to see if there is another problem. Just need to find a doctor who will take me seriously! Thanks a lot. Yvonne
  12. Hi guys, I have had chronic constipation as far back as I remember. I am so sick and tired of being told to eat more fibre or more fruit and veg. I CAN'T eat more fruit and veg - its not possible! When I tell doctors I am constipated they give me medication that contains loads of fibre and all it does is bloat me horribly. I have tried EVERYTHING...
  13. Good question! Wine is my worst culprit - red or white. Make me really ill. But I have tried whisky, vodka and gin. They took slightly longer to make me feel sick but all made me very badly hungover - while still drinking! Yvonne
  14. Hi Nadine, Sometimes this disease really sucks I know. I can't really comment on you not having a reaction because I get really bad ones after ingesting gluten. Your bloating and gas - how long have you been gluten-free? I too had these two problems - the bloating all my life but the gas seemed to be worse after going gluten-free. Now after...
  15. I had a problem with buckwheat when I first when gluten-free. Now 5 months down the line I am absolutely fine with it - the flour and puffed cereal. Perhaps you just need more time to heal? Japsnoet, just had to say, I followed your advice and not only baked bread with Sorghum and Maize Meal (with success) but I tried quinoa. Quinoa is probably the...
  16. Hi There, Yes I have the same problem. My sleep has improved dramatically since going gluten-free 5 months ago. I have bocome totally intolerant to alcohol though. Apart from making me really tired and sick - the hangover starts on the first drink, and I get drunk from one, it wakes me up during the right. I usually wake up between 1 and 3 am...
  17. Hi Deb, As you can see you are definitely not alone with these symptoms. The achey feeling is my main symptom when I've had gluten. I get the same stomach symptoms as you without the big D (I get more constipated than usual if that's possible). The aches and tiredness last for at least a week - stomach clears up sooner. I have different symptoms...
  18. Japsnoet, Thanks a lot. I will definitely try these recipes. Its great to speak to someone who knows the South African products! Have a great weekend. Yvonne
  19. Personally I think you're all nuts!!! Sorry - couldn't resist! Great to have a laugh on this forum too!
  20. Tiffany, I will definitely try this toasting thing. Because I'm not a very good cook when I read all these things they sound incredibly intimidating BUT I will try! Probably all a lot easier than I think. Thanks so much!
  21. Hi Japsnoet, Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a long message. I really appreciate it. Yes I eat Maltabella quite often, usually on the weekends as I don't have time to make it in the morning during the week. I love it. I would be very interested to try it in bread if I knew how. I know Lucille Cholerton and have been to...

  23. Ian have you found that the brain fog gets worse the longer you are gluten-free? I am noticing its got a lot worse for me but perhaps it will level out as its still relatively early days for me. Its a horrible feeling, like you're not really here, can't really take in what people are telling me, or promptly forget what they told me!
  24. Tiffany this sounds great but way over my head! Toasted then cooked? I assume that makes it taste better, and then do you cook it as usual or will it cook quicker? I don't even know what flax meal is! You sound like a fundi in the kitchen, you lucky thing. Yes Sandra, a decent EASY bread recipe is one thing I have not been able to find on this site...
  25. Thats exactly like me Kaiti. Its weird because you get all these emotions raging through you because you just know you are going to get sick and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. I almost wish I could make myself throw up to get rid of it but of course that won't work! Its really unpleasant feeling out of control like that.
