ARCHIVED 2.5 Years After My First Episode, Dh Returns With A Vengence . . .
weaselfish replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Though I appreciate your input Yum!, please do not insult either my intelligence or perceptive capacity via pointless suggestions. I went to emergency for Edema, not DH. The emergency team confirmed my Edema was Celiac related as they have experience with those like me. Thank you and peace, WF -
ARCHIVED 2.5 Years After My First Episode, Dh Returns With A Vengence . . .
weaselfish posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Back in late 2011, I joined this forum after having self-diagnosed my DH / Celiac condition. Needless to say, I got a wee bit jaded after recovery / healing, backslid, and DH is back with a vengence. This time bringing intense Edema in my hands, wrists, forearms, feet, ankles, and calves. Beer was my downfall. I've been again gluten-free for over 2 weeks... -
Hey cavernio , When you wrote " I'll be doing water only though, no juice unless my heart feels funny. ", my first thought was; " If you deprive your body to the point of heart strain, what possible good could that serve ?" To deprive your physical vehicle of essential nutrients for too long, it could well lead to unintended self-extinction. Just please...

Yesterday is a hangover, tomorrow is a projection, we exist ONLY in the eternal NOW !!! So as Ram Dass said: Be Here Now . . . Peace . . .

Hello BeFree, I'm a 54 year old male who's self-diagnosed DH in myself just over 3 months ago with the aid of my future wife. Yes, DH is Dermatitis Herpetiformis, and being that I have Herpes Simplex 1 ( lip area only ), those tiny blister like bumps are where the " Herpetiformis " comes from. One thing that has yet to be mentioned in your thread is...

Hello Amby, Yup, in my peak of DH I had it on both wrists, most of my forearms up to my arm pits, lower to middle back, outside of thighs, calf's and shins. I'm 54 and DH hit me hard nearly a year ago. I've been gluten-free since about the middle of December 2011 and I'm now healing ( ie, no weeping, open lesions, blistering, stinging / burning, or...

ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Is Celiac, Why Doesn't My Doctor Agree?!
weaselfish replied to Honey015's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Honey015, 2 points I'd like to make that have worked for me. 1) NO-ONE knows you better than YOU !!!, and 2) Be thy own physician. If you, like me, eliminate gluten, and we begin to heal, is it not obvious where as Robert Plant once sang; " where the pressure lies ??? " Good Luck and be well, YOU know what you need to do, and know this . . ... -
Hi crab, CC is Cross Contamination, meaning a product can become contaminated with gluten due to wheat also being processed in the same facility. For example, oats contain no gluten yet can be contaminated going through the same machines as wheat, barley, and rye. As far as the dairy, cows udders as well as the milking machines are sterilized with iodine...

ARCHIVED 6+ Weeks Gluten-Free And A Dh Update . . .
weaselfish replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi zippitty5, Thanks-a-million !!! The following is based on my personal experience and research. 5 days was too soon for me, took over a month of just rice ( if you like Soy Sauce, go with Tamari to be safe ), veggies, fruits, and some chicken to see the " ITCH " subside. Healing took about another week+ in my case to begin and I've quite a ways... -
ARCHIVED 6+ Weeks Gluten-Free And A Dh Update . . .
weaselfish replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hey squirmingitch, Thanks. It's damn tough to stay on the diet regime, especially because almost everything I crave I can no longer eat. Too soon for me to test me favorite things as the hell I went through has me in shell-shock. However, we don't know what jacks us till we test it, as you well know we're ALL individual cases. Hang tough and best... -
ARCHIVED 6+ Weeks Gluten-Free And A Dh Update . . .
weaselfish replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hey All, 2 weeks later and Irish Spring soap & a good hot shower has no effect on my healing lesion areas. No increased itch or aggravation. Strict Gluten-Free is working well for me still. I wish such success to ALL others !!! Gotta pay attention to your body to know just what to do . . Peace and healing, WF -
Hello KellieLA, As you most likely surmise, if you don't consume ANY gluten, and the lumps ( yup, I've had 'em, very strange ) subside, well, it's fairly obvious what the source of the problem is, no ??? Remember that no-one will EVER know YOU better than YOU !!! I had flatulence prior to going gluten-free, but no longer. We are being poisoned...

weaselfish posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hey All, 6+ weeks on a tight veg & rice diet, and fruit with a wee bit of beef, chicken, and shrimp, and BAM !!! Healing . . Vanicream is outstanding for dryness and is a blessing for me. I'm also good with dairy, ie cheese, eggs, mayonnaise, etc . . . No "raw open wounds", dry skin sloughing, yes, but, healing. Gluten-free Bisquik is working... -

Hi Lorisc, Check this site out as a start: Open Original Shared Link Then use a search engine like google or this alternative: Open Original Shared Link and search for gluten free topics like this: "gluten free bread" "gluten free re-fried beans" etc . . . ( use the double-quotes !!! ) During my own personal research on Dermatitis... -
Also, as far as healing time(s) go, see the two links below. Bring them up in your web browser and search for the term " heal " in both pages. Healing appears to me to be on an individual case-by-case basis depending on ones physiology / body chemistry. The first link is one persons experience: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link...

Hey DaVille06, Here are some links for you to explore: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link It can take up to 2+ years for the IgA to filter out of your skin. Hello itchy, May I propose that being it's an inherently a genetic disorder, and given the fact that wheat ( gluten ) is so ubiquitous in pre-processed foods / diets, is it really any wonder ??? It is NOT to me anymore as eliminating gluten in my diet has made ALL the difference . . . Since Celiac is " hard-wired " into the human genome, it appears...

Scheduled food - type consumption Vs. listening to the body . . . I think the above covers it. Regular scheduled meals is just part of the matrix we've been indoctrinated into. See, you don't listen to your body then, you watch the synthetic clock . . . The machine world has you . . . Your body knows what it needs, and tells you . . . IF, you listen...

Hello gunny7, My research regarding your future children says: It could. To the best of my knowledge, DH / Celiac is hereditary. ARCHIVED Dermatologist - Dh Biopsy Strategy?
weaselfish replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hello Metoo, Option # 3: Since you seem to, in one sense, "trust" your current dermatologist ( even though you KNOW gluten triggers DH in you ), but your current dermatologist dismisses your DH rash as "stress related eczema". Hummm, how about this ??? 1) Google search " celiac doctors " in your area, and contact them. Failing that: 2) Make... -
ARCHIVED Herpes Outbreaks Since Stopping Gluten
weaselfish replied to lulumonkey's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hello lulumonkey, I'm now into my 3rd week as gluten-free as possible. I was diagnosed with HSV-1 27 years ago. I've seen no increase in HSV outbreak frequency and haven't had one since eliminating gluten in my diet. So, I don't think your unfortunate HSV issue is a result of the absence of gluten. In my case, stress is a huge trigger, and DH if anything... -
Hi Metoo, Since your motive to have a biopsy and obtain documented confirmation would be used by you as a tool / proof to benefit your family / loved ones, I think you should go for it. Those of us who have done the research know Celiac / Dermatitis Herpetiformis is hereditary, and " paper proof " would be good leverage to impress upon your mother and...

Hello Metoo, First and foremost, the decision to do a biopsy is entirely yours. No one can advise you on this. However, it appears to me you are aware of your sensitivity to gluten and have determined that gluten effects DH in you. Do you really need more proof ??? I've read that biopsy's aren't always accurate, and given that he has predetermined...
