  1. I'm finally in the process of purging my cabinets of all gluten, and I noticed that Safeway's O Organics pasta sauce contains "organic spices". I can't find specific information on Safeway's site, but online comments point to Safeway's canned beans, veggies and sauces being safe. I plan to contact their customer service line tomorrow, but does anyone have...
  2. Hi Liz, I would add that too little stomach acid can contribute to having undigested food in stools. Now, certainly if you have a gluten issue then it's clear that it's throwing off your digestive enzymes and process - but just be aware that that could be a separate but related issue. In fact, a lot of people are diagnosed with too much acid when in fact...
  3. All, thanks for your encouragement and advice. I wanted to mention that I called the lab that did my celiac panel, and they confirmed that they completed the more specific IgG anti-deamidated gliadin peptide antibody assay. I think you're right and that my GI misinterpreted it and/or just isn't familiar with the research! However, I received a copy of the...
  4. Fiddle-Faddle, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me! I am positive that I have low acid, so that may be contributing to this. I switched to a sublingual B-12 supplement but will check whether it is the kind you mentioned. Also, I definitely have a little eye twitching and involuntary movement - feels like my eyes have ADD but my brain...
  5. Hi racheldeniseh, I can't add to what ravenwoodglass already said, but just wanted to say hang in there! I'm sure it's difficult to juggle these health issues with schoolwork and your social life, but it sounds like you're taking good care of yourself and you're on your way to getting some answers. Good for you! Hugs!
  6. Hi all, wanted to give an update about my ear and neuro problems. I still have only completed part of the VNG test, because apparently I have a lot of earwax, which interferes with the last portion of the test. I am a diligent Q-tip user, which is probably why I have this problem in the first place, but I have tried cleaning my ears 4 times with hydrogen...
  7. Thanks very much, Skylark, and you too, IrishHeart. I will confirm the type of test I had and will read what you've shared.
  8. Yes, I suppose I am confused. My GI has been so dismissive of the isolated IgG value, and my understanding was that it was less specific to celiac than IgA. Apparently I have missed some important information in my research - do you have any suggestions for where I can read more about the gliadin peptide IgG results. I did a quick search and found this link...
  9. I finally received my genetic testing results, which my doctor just emailed to me. Here they are for your interpretation: HLA TYPING FOR CELIAC DISEASE [Final] Diagnostic Test / Results: HLA-DQB1/ 201 604 HLA-DQ2/ Positive HLA-DQ8/ Negative HLA-DQA1/ 1 5 Lab interpretation (on the results):...
  10. Hi Alikae, I can't interpret the results for you, but your doctor *should* be able to walk through them with you. (It's a nice test of your doctor, actually.) Also, if you had it done by Quest Labs, they should be able to provide you with a sample report, which is helpful in explaining the various outcomes. I am waiting for my genetic test results...
  11. Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to mention that after emailing my neurologist about my symptoms, she had someone from the office call and schedule me for a Videonystagmogram (VNG). It evaluates dizziness and vertigo. Thankfully I go in first thing on Monday morning. The test takes about two hours - yikes. Anyone have any experience with it? I wear...
  12. Hi all, I've previously posted about my negative blood panel and biopsy, but my doctors have told me I am definitely gluten sensitive and to go gluten-free for now. My gluten symptoms are both digestive and neurological, but for their respective spectrums of severity, my neurological symptoms are worse than my digestive symptoms. I am also waiting for...
  13. Hi JoyfulGF, Welcome to the forum. I suggest you get checked out for interstitial cystitis, which is another autoimmune disease that I've seen mentioned alongside celiac on this forum. Here is a link to some information: Open Original Shared Link A celiac friend of mine also has IC and citrus foods are a big trigger for her. Hope this helps!
  14. Welcome to the board. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well, and this stage can be really overwhelming, especially since you don't feel like your usual self. Rather than doing a very strict elimination diet, one suggestion would be to start a food journal and monitor how you feel after meals. (Keep in mind that there will likely be a bit of variation in how quickly...
  15. Thank you. This is all very stressful and confusing, but I'll try to take it one step at a time. This forum is extremely helpful, and I will be sure to let you know how things continue to evolve.
  16. Thank you for the thoughtful replies. I have gone back and forth on the legitimacy of my negative celiac diagnosis, but my action plan is to get the genetic testing as well as testing for SIBO and hypochlorohydria and go strictly gluten free, as if I had celiac, for 3-6 months. Part of the problem has been that my neurological symptoms resolve almost entirely...
  17. I'm not convinced that my negative results are to be believed. However, assuming that they are correct, my doctors have told me that at a minimum I am highly sensitive to gluten. Can anyone tell me whether gluten sensitivity can go away? My gluten intolerance has been preceded by a great deal of stress due to working full-time while in graduate school...
  18. Hi dancergirlmom, Welcome to the board. I am a newbie too, but since I've been immersed in the diagnosis process, I can offer some basic guidance. First, you absolutely must get a copy of your husband's lab results. Post them on the forum along with the reference ranges, and there are members who can help you interpret them. Second, here is a list...
  19. Well, I was really in a pinch when I posted this but was able to do some additional research that I wanted to share. In fact, it came from celiac.com, so it was my oversight! The information was under Ten Facts about Celiac Disease Genetic Testing (link is here: https://www.celiac.com/articles/21567/1/Ten-Facts-About-Celiac-Disease-Genetic-Testing/Page...
  20. Hi all, After getting a negative biopsy but mixed blood test results, I want to move forward with the genetic testing. (I'm hoping to find that i don't have the genes and can comfortably proceed with a NCGI label.) However, I've seen some discussion about different genes being considered by different countries...I'm in the US and am seeing my doctor...
  21. Thanks very much, Mushroom. I hadn't read the 3-4 slices of bread on here, but then again, I was a little surprised when my doctor said that I could eat just a slice of bread a day...I am pretty small, so I didn't know what would be appropriate. Of course, at the time, a slice of bread felt like an enormous quantity, so I was extremely conflicted about things...
  22. Kelly, in my opinion you should attempt the gluten-free diet for at least a month, keeping a food journal, and see how you feel. Then reintroduce gluten and compare. I would also evaluate the amount of caffeine and water you're drinking and consider taking probiotics and an Omega-3supplement. Some of what you've described could very well be as a result...
  23. Well, I finally got my biopsy results today, and they are negative. So, now I need to decide if I believe them! Here is where I've been...(I am so sorry for the lengthy post, but I just want to make sure I'm including the important points.) - had an appendicitis scare in late July but appendicitis was eventually ruled out, and i was put on a full liquid...
  24. I had my endoscopy last Monday, so it is nice and fresh in my mind. I, too, was quite anxious. I think the stress of the gluten uncertainty made me feel more unlucky/superstitious, so I was afraid that the risks would somehow become reality for me. And then I was beating myself up for being scared - I hate feeling wussy. Anyway, that tells you that I was...
  25. Hello, I'm still waiting for my biopsy results...and I'm trying to eat strictly gluten-free, but I've eaten out the last two nights, and though I have done my best to order my food gluten-free and without contamination, I woke up yesterday with a finger rash that further intensified last night. This is a rash that I had for several months right before...
