After being on a gluten-free diet for almost 3 months, I actually got a real period this month! Ahh! Yes, I am rather excited because it means I am starting to have regular cycles. I thought for the longest time that my period was suppose to come on the 15th of each month...only for months and months it was so chaotic...I now know why
So this month, I was having cramps and felt like I was going to get my period right up to the 15th. I was so dog tired I ended up sleeping half that morning away. I wake up, use the bathroom and saw why I was so darn tired. My husband was rejoicing with me because he knew it was a good thing! Now in past months when I got some sort of period (not on a gluten-free diet) I would end up with spotting for part of the month, with what seemed like CF and then I would get three days of bleeding and then it would stop. This month, so far, I'm on day three of bleeding (when usually by now I'm done) and I know it should be about 5 days. This means I'm on my way to being regular again! Gosh, I'm so darn excited!

Congratulations Addis!
News like yours is very encouraging to me! I've been gluten-free since Sept. Didn't get a period in February and had a neg test. Starting to exercise more (not vigorous) and I'm still losing weight. I have always told myself that I would be fairly healthy whenever I do get pregnant. The most I've weighed is 174 and now I'm down to 161. So, it's probably just not time yet.

I'm in the same boat as you! Sort of. Been trying to conceive since Oct of 08. Since going gluten-free in December, I had a sort of period (ever use that phrase
in January and completely missed it in February...took a test and came back negative. Thinking it might be a while before I am completely back on track and I finally get pregnant.
Hope success is soon for you! Sorry I don't have any real advice.

Welcome to the forum, Joyful! I think reactions differ a lot from person to person so no two people necessarily experience the same symptoms.
But you do need to avoid barley in addition to wheat and rye and many also avoid oats for awhile, even if they are certified gluten-free (you may be able to add them in later).
Thanks for your reply
I know I have to avoid barley, it just surprised me that I would have the same reaction to citric acid as I did to barley.

I'm new to the forum and just recently "diagnosed" with celiac on Dec 24.
I noticed soon after I started a gluten-free diet that when I drank hot tea with roasted barley, I would have to urinate a lot that day. As soon as I quit drinking the tea, the constant trips to the bathroom stopped. Unfortunately, I noticed the same symptoms (recently) when I drank anything with citric acid in it. I practically peed myself the other day because I had the sudden urge to go to the bathroom. Anyway, I've noticed in other posts that some have the typical (gassy, stomach ache) symptoms whenever they consumed citric acid but, I didn't read about anyone having the same symptoms I do. Just wondering if anyone else has.
Thanks!

Oh Melikamaui, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Have you looked into PCOS? I don't know how likely that could be but, that's one of the first things people think of. Sorry if I am like one of the million that have suggested it, if it's not it. In any case, thank you for rejoicing with me!
