ARCHIVED Was Doing Well, Now Feeling Bad Again
lgranott replied to cgd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I first started, there were so many times that I thought I was strictly gluten-free and I found out that I wasn't, over and over again. Things that I never would have thought of, like shampoo... Or ingredients that I didn't realize were gluten. There is also cross-contamination. Products that have no gluten listed, or dishes ordered in restaurants that... -

ARCHIVED Is This Fatigue Related To Having Been Glutened?
lgranott replied to lgranott's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jen-- I have been gluten-free for about 3 months, maybe more. I stopped eating wheat in Dec and slowly started avoiding gluten, since the wheat free diet didn't help. Around 3 months ago i stopped eating gluten. Every once in a while I find something that I didn't think to look at, like shampoo, but that happens very rarely at this point. At those times... -
ARCHIVED Is This Fatigue Related To Having Been Glutened?
lgranott posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It has been over a week (7-10) since I stupidly had gluten, but not just a tiny bit. So I knew that it would be bad... I understand all the digestive consequences (when will that stop?) but the fatigue? Is it related? I am getting more sleep right now, b/c I have to, and even taking short naps, which is unlike me. I CAN'T keep my eyes open and can't do the... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Dairy-free Vegetarian Cookbook
lgranott replied to Clarise49's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Claire--I am in the same boat:) I haven't found any cookbooks either, but I also modify. I have been a vegeterian since 1994 and don't want to go back b/c of gluten-free and dairy free eating... Makes it hard, but its manageable:) I'll let you know if I find anything good. liatt -
ARCHIVED Oats Are Gluten Free....
lgranott replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know I'm not "anyone else" but as far as I understand (by everything I am told and everything that I have read) their oats are processed in a plant w/o wheat, so there is no gluten in mccanns. -
ARCHIVED Back To The Coke Debate....
lgranott replied to Turtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
YAY!!!!! As I was sitting here drinking diet coke, I remembered something I read about caramel color and nearly had a heart attack . First thought was that I had possibly been accidentally glutened while I thought I was gluten-free and the next thought was that if diet coke wasn't gluten-free that would be the final straw... --vegeterian by choice... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch
lgranott replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So if it had MFS and it is not made by kraft, or any other safe companies, you should call the company? And what? Ask them if the product is gluten-free? Or a more specific question? Thanks--Liatt -
ARCHIVED Oats Are Gluten Free....
lgranott replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jnkmnky-- I eat them (mccanns) as do 2 of my friends daughters, both celiac disease, and none of us react... That being said, if you do react to avenin, it doesn't matter that we apparently do not:( I didn't know about avenin when I first found out that mccanns is gluten-free, so I just ate it w/o worrying. Luckily I was fine. Don't know if I would have... -
ARCHIVED Adventures In Celiac World
lgranott replied to scotia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I certainly spent years having those types of emergency moments (never had anyone to admit them to, as I am rather shy about things like this)... Car over-heated once, in the middle of nowhere and actually had to use a bag--how disgusting and embarassing I would laugh, but since I am dealing with a pretty bad reaction it would hurt. Bseides the fact... -
I am sooo glad I found this sight... I wonder what took me so long. Up until now, the only celiac person in my life was a friend who's daughter was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago... Not the same. I don't mind "most" of the questions/comments. I have found that most people are really just curious and want to understand. Although every once in a while I get...

ARCHIVED Do You Ever Have Weird Dreams
lgranott replied to frenchiemama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
lol I never thought pasta could be a nightmare:) I do a 7 day bike ride for AIDS every year and this year was my first gluten-free year. I worked so hard to bring my own food, stay away from EVERYTHING and so on. On the third night, I had a dream that I ate a whole plate of pasta that they serve, then freaked out b/c I realized what I had done. Thought... -
Thats so funny, I can completely relate. At first I was just a vegetarian by choice. Never made a fuss and always found something to eat--still low maintenance... Then I slowly (perhaps b/c I am slow, lol) realized that I couldn't do the dairy thing--ok, I could still consider myself lowish maintanace... NOW!!!! No gluten???? No one wants me around...

Thanks Kaiti! You seem to have answers to so much I just started reading the "forbiden" list and am learning so much... wow! there seems to be something new everyday. Who knew. If it is made in the US I don't even have to call? I can just assume that it is gluten-free??? That would be awesome!! K, off for a run Liatt

I am a runner/cyclist and used sports drinks like cytomax (electolyte replacement drinks and recovery drinks) up until I realized that I couldn't have gluten... Right now the only drinks I know of that don't contain gluten are gatorade and vitamin water. I am wondering if there are any other drinks/powders out there. I read some older threads and some...

ARCHIVED Testing For Cd
lgranott replied to lgranott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Makes sense. I guess part of me wants to know if it isn't celiac b/c there is already so much I can't/won't eat. Vegetarian (choice) and can't eat dairy...Ahh!! There isn't much left when I take out gluten... That isn't really true, I have plenty to eat, but not easy when I am not at home. I have been very careful about not letting gluten near me, but every... -
ARCHIVED Testing For Cd
lgranott replied to lgranott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you! Definately NOT worth it... The thought of bread is painful It was suggested that I get tested and have a biopsy done. Is there any benefit to having a biopsy done? -
I have been on a gluten free diet for nearly 8 months and am feeling much better then Ihave for a very long time. I have not however been tested for celiac disease. If I am feeling better, should I get tested and if so, don't I have to have gluten in my system when tested?

I will be going to Israel for three weeks and am new to all of this... I know what to look for in the US, but how do I find out the translations for words like maltitol and modified food starch?
