ARCHIVED Any Weightlifters, Bodybuilders?
Heather22 replied to EddieJP125's topic in Sports and Fitness
Hi Mariann Tell your husband to have no fear because there are LOTS of gluten free protein powders and supplements. I am also a weight lifter and have no problem taking in the supplements I need. There are some protein powders thath are gluten-free and some with low levels of lactose (if lactose intolerant). I am very sensitive to just about everything... -
I have a question for anyone who is willing to admit to this. This morning I went to the bathroom and had a small amount of blood in my stool. Yesterday I tried eating whole nuts, so I am thinking they may have scraped my bowels. Has any one else experienced this when introducing foods? Or, should I be worried? Heather

I just made a bad move on my part. After spending the whole afternoon and evening PMSing and suffering from major cramps, I decided that I needed a treat. I went and got some unsweetened carob chips. Big mistake. Within 5 minutes, I had bad gas and my tummy bloated out to a pregnant belly. I can't believe it happened that fast! I learned my lesson. Tomorrow...

Hi Pegster, I'm in the same boat! I just started the SCD about 2 weeks ago and I already feel better. I couldn't belieive it, the other morning I woke up, and my stomach was completely flat....a site I have not had in quite a while. The benefit are well worth the 'strictness' of it all, at least in my case.

Hi Emmirose Theoretically, weight gain shoud not occur as long as your energy in (food) is equal to the energy you expend (exercise, BMR). So, in order to lose weight, you need to create a negative energy balance by slightly eating less, and increasing exercise. Doing this GRADUALLY will be the best bet. Try for a decrease of 500 calories a day, and...

Thanks for your suggestions. THis morning I had some DCCC, yogurt and a banana, and it was the best morning (gas-wise) yet. I am just starting out, so I can't comment on your relapse. However, I know that stress affects me big time---congratulations on the new job. Hopefully things will settle down. Are you finding that the diet is working though?...

What is an average day of food for someone on the SCD? ...I am having trouble thinking of ideas since my normal breakfast meals are illegal. I'm not keen on eating a lot of baked goods (muffins, etc.) early in the morning. What do some of you eat?

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
Heather22 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was wondering if there is anything I can put in my coffee at the beginning of the diet. I haven't introduced almond milk yet, so I was hoping someone found an alternative for in the mean time. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
Heather22 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Does anybody know if psyllium is allowed on this diet? It is often recommended when doing a cleanse because of its bulking action which cleans out the mucus in the intestines.....which is the purpose of the first bit of the diet---as I understand it. (?) -
ARCHIVED Whey Protein Powder
Heather22 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Deb I am lactose intolerant and I also have whey protein powder every day. Just read the labels. Some brands are either lactose free or have very low lactose. I can tolerate both, even though I am very sensititve. Go figure. When buying protein powder, also keep in mind that some DO have gluten....either in the form of modified food starch or some... -
Thank you so much for your reply and for sharing your experience. I was also diagnosed after my second year of university (...is that Junior year in the US?). I guess it is the stress. Seeing as how stress makes symptoms that much worse, people always told me "just wait--after university, you will start feeling better". I am now done and I do not feel better...

Hi Ladies, I have been reading your messages, and would like your opinion. I am considering trying the SCD because I refuse to go on feeling the way I do. I am bloated ALL the time and feel like I am 6 months pregnant. I have good BMs, but the pain and cramping are getting too much for me. Have you felt like this? I have been gluten-free and lactose...

ARCHIVED Oral Contraceptive Pills, Gf Or Not?
Heather22 replied to egardner's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would ask your pharmasist to read up on it. Most have the phone numbers, ect. of the manufacturers and---the nice ones will call them for you. I am on Alesse 21, which is gluten free, and have not had any problems with it. -
I also figure that I am sensitive to sugar. I am at the point where the pleasure of having a small treat is not worth the pain of bloating and gas. I also feel like I am on the border line of diabetes, but the doctors claim there is nothing wrong. Is there anyone else expereincing this? If so, what do you do about it? Specific Carbohydrate diet???

Open Original Shared Link Hi there, you can find info about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet on this site. It is a book called "Breaking the Vicious Cycle". After reading the postings and success with this diet, I am off to buy my own copy today. Good luck! H : )

ARCHIVED Fiber Supplements
Heather22 replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really like the effects of psyllium husks. I make protein pancakes in the morning: 1 scoop protein powder 8 egg whites 1 tbsp ground flax seed 1/2 cup psyllium husks Mind you, you have to ensure that you are drinking a lot of water! I started eating these every day and now I have 3+ nice bowel movements a day. It feels so good! H : ) -
ARCHIVED Any Weightlifters, Bodybuilders?
Heather22 replied to EddieJP125's topic in Sports and Fitness
Hi Eddie I am a fitness competitor and plan on attempting a bodybuilding competition next spring. Its all about hard work in the gym and filling yourself full of good quality food. I don't know if you are into bodybuilding, but I can tell you that adopting the bodybuilding lifestyle has definitely made me feel better with regards to Celiac symptoms.... -
Elev8 Me bars are excellent gluten free energy bars for those endurance athletes out there. Also, I have found it the best to just make my own protein bars. Do a google search on homemade protein bars, and use one of their recipes, and just compromise. You can substitute with whey protein, soy protein, or rice protein powder. I made some with puffed...

ARCHIVED Hair Loss
Heather22 replied to BamBam's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi BamBam I was diagnosed about 2 years ago with Celiac, and I still notice that I lose a lot of hair in the shower--more than normal. I have picked up on something though---when my bowels are acting up due to gluten/other food sensitivities, I tend to lose more hair. Have you noticed this? Also, I am sensitive to tanning lotions that have wheat protein... -
ARCHIVED L-glutamine
Heather22 replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with you that glutamine is a beneficial supplement, given you take it properly. I am a bodybuilder and have been taking it for about 1 1/2 years. It has done wonders for me, and I surely notice a difference in my muscles when I stop. After reading about the benefits for a person with Celiac disease, my decision was reinforced. I'm, glad that...
