  1. Hi Cathey, what does DH stand for in your post? You mention gluten bread so it can't mean dermatitis herpetiformis, I don't think. No I wasn't washing my hands, but I am now. What soap do you use? I just bought rubber gloves at the drug store that I'll wear to feed the gluten dog and change the wheat cat litter until I can buy a different brand tomorrow....
  2. No, I've never had DH or any allergic reaction before. You are correct, I did mean I thought it was over from the last time I boarded the dog. Now I'm concerned about using wheat based cat litter too. I do have bloating and GERD when I eat gluten foods but it seems that the DH is aggravated more by touching gluten. The dog I'm boarding goes home on Monday...
  3. Could it be that my DH is from using Swheat Scoop Cat Litter? It's made from wheat. If so does this mean I can't touch my cats?? OMG! I need a therapist. Tomorrow I'll change the cat litter, but to what? World's Best is corn based. Maybe I'll try Yesterday's News, which I think is made from old newspapers. Watch...I'll be allergic to ink too! I'm afraid to...
  4. As I type this my arms (top of each arm, wrist to elbow) are a throbbing, itchy, burning mess. Why?? I've been so good the last few days. Grabbed my shampoo bottle and looked for hidden gluten but couldn't find any. What could it be?? Then I realized I'm boarding a dog for 9 days. His mom sent him this past Friday with a big bag of Purina Dog Chow. I...
  5. To celebrate some good news I went to Sedutto's in NYC and had a cup of chocolate chip peanut butter ice cream with Reeses peanut butter cups mixed in. That was 8pm. It's now 2:45am and I am so sick. My stomach hurts, I'm bloated, my knees hurt when I walk down the steps and the hive-like things on my arms are red, itchy and swollen. I knew it would happen...
  6. Let me start by saying I've never had hives and, to the best of my knowledge, never had food allergies. I'll be 65 in October. Two years ago my dr diagnosed me with mild GERD and a daily Prilosec usually stopped the heartburn and night time vomiting, unless I ate too late or the wrong foods, etc. But basically the GERD was under control. Then the bloating...

  8. Thanks for the info. I'm self-diagnosed and won't go back on gluten to be tested. I'm seeing my doctor in August for standard yearly tests. I'd rather stay away from gluten and walk in to his office feeling great then to go back on gluten and be sick for the next 6 weeks. I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but the hives might not be food-related at all....
  9. I'm new too and also glad to have a place to come for answers to my questions and concerns. I've found such conflicting points of view on different websites and it's great to find all the info I need in one place. I have an appointment with my doctor on August 16 for a routine colonoscopy and endoscopy (I'm 64) and will discuss my symptoms, all of which are...
  10. I didn't know these existed. Thanks so much.
  11. Hi Newbee, I'm new too and equally confused but I do believe the answers will come in time. My main symptoms (bloating after eating wheat products, post-nasal drip, congestion, even severely arthritic knees) have all responded positively to being gluten free. I am now dealing with hives that came after eating strawberries yesterday, but didn't come after...
  12. Thank you all. I guess my confusion was that I read that even insignificant amounts of gluten from the product itself or cross-contamination, was harmful and should be avoided. This is all so new that I feel that every negative reaction I'm having to food is related to falling off the gluten free wagon. As a test (and also, truthfully, not wanting to throw...
  13. Thanks Peter, then I seem to be allergic to strawberries in addition to being gluten intolerant. Oh happy day!!
  14. I am new to gluten intolerance and totally confused. Looking for others to start a support group in New York City. Please respond if interested and thanks! Laura
  15. I read that fresh fruit was OK on a gluten-free diet, but recently broke out in hives after eating some organic strawberries. After researching strawberries and hives I learned that strawberries are grown in straw and straw is made from wheat, barley oats or rye, none of which is acceptable on a gluten-free diet. Why isn't this mentioned on the gluten-free...
  16. Hi, I'm so glad I found this forum. I'm so confused. I'm 64 years old and the owner of a very active, stressful small business. Two years ago I was told I have mild gerd that Prilosec completely controlled, as long as I didn't eat too much, or too late, or the wrong foods. About 5 months ago I started working on my website in the evenings and as I worked...
