Shimma Forgot to mention that Elaine G. has this to say about enzymes: "Eating something illegal on SCD and taking supplementary enzymes to justify doing this is not recommended and will destroy the efficacy of the diet." But with a diet this limited (more so than gluten-free) then I know for me, there are going to be times when it's impossible to follow...

Shimma, I live in Scandinavia so order my enzymes from Biocare in the UK. But I've been looking for a line with higher amounts per capsule and have recently ordered from Houston Nutraceuticals Inc. in the US. It's the one which made the best impression so far. Here's a link to an informative site about enzymes in case you wish to read up on them: Open Original...

Jen, if you can't find one in the electrical stores, here's a website/company in the US I stumbled across while searching for a maker in Europe: Open Original Shared Link Their telephone no can be found in "Contact Us, Digestive Diet Inc." section. Shimma, because of special circumstances I had to eat non SCD food twice last week! The first time I was...

Hi Jen I didn't have chronic D either when starting, so I skipped the intro and just chose what I liked from the legal list. Even ate peanuts within days (not supposed to eat until six months) and have had no inflammation pain from any of the foods. Used to have on a daily basis previously.... However, there is one thing I follow from the beginners advice...

PreOptMegs: I see you make yoghurt. I'm seriously considering getting a maker. But as I haveto order one from the UK and then buy an electrical adaptor, I wanto make sure I have the right starter in our grocery store. I am wondering if I can use any type of unsweetened natural yoghurt??? I understand that it mustn't contain any bifidus bacteria as this is...

Hiya Kimberly. I caught some kind of influenza, and thankfully I'm already feeling better The carrot cake recipe is from the book, a 1998 edition from the library. I made it with less amount of honey and going to use even less next time (blood sugar issues) and still think it will taste delicious. I'm posting the recipe for all to see PS. I...

Today, I'm feeling really bad overall. I might have caught the flu, but read that the SCD can cause some die-off from yeast, bacteria and pathogens. I used to have a huge candida issue and the headache, neck-pain and aching joints resemble this. Hope it soon passes as my head is about to explode with pain. Noticed yet another positive change on the...

Shimma: It's incredibly stressful not being able to just eat normal like everyone else...to have to spend so much time and effort on doing the right thing constantly foodwise 24/7...analizying every single food placed infront of you on the table instead of participating in the enjoyment and relaxation a nice meal generally has. Going on any special diet means...

Hi PreOptMegs That thought quickly crossed my mind too. For two months reading the other threads I could relate to most of the various symptoms that were discussed. Now, symptoms seem to be quickly going away and I'm kind of lost for words when reading them. I'm prepared for a rocky ride on this diet too, but I've felt improvement so far beyond the seven...

Hi Ok, this is only my fourth day on the SCD, but I see this thread has had/has many views. Some perhaps contemplaiting on whether to start this or not. So I thought I'd write a few lines on how my progress has been in such a short time. I've for the most part of my life been slim even though I ate lots of food. I gather this is from being malnutritioned...

Hi Here's a chapter about colon health (from The Amazing liver and gallbladder flush book) I thought proclaimed the same theory as the SCD: When we eat highly processed foods that have been stripped of most nutrients and natural fiber, the colon has difficulty moving the food mass or chyme along. Processed foods tend to make for a dry, hard or...

Hi Karen Good to know I'm not alone We probably weren't the first and won't be the last this happens to..but yeah, totally embarrassing.... Take care, Misa PS I had the same "blockage" feeling.

Having gone up two dress sizes within 24 hours (I'm usually slim, but this happens when I eat potatoes and buckwheat too) and feeling totally lethargic through grazing on home-made Chinese food all yesterday, I remembered something about a carbohydrate diet here. I've checked out the SCD legal/illegal list and can definetaly see how this diet is super-healthy...
  16. Hiya I've found peppermint oil to be helpful for bloating. The first capsule works on eliminating the bloating....which needless to say is a bit uncomfortable.....but necessary But then I take another one in the evening and also two the next day. This keeps the bloating away. Enteric coated capsules are the best as they will open lower down in the...

    ARCHIVED Stomach Pain

Pre-gluten-free, I once woke up in the middle of the night with terrible stomach pain. The pain was so bad I actually passed out twice before I reached the phone to call for help. After much testing and poking at the ER, it turned out to be gas! Very embarrasing The Doc said somtimes bloating can cause such pain that it actually feels like a heartattack...
  18. Hi Gabby I don't have any statistics, but wanted to share that my sister had only one ovary and it was even in a very bad shape. The tube partially blocked with some misplaced tissue. However, she has two beautiful children conceived naturally Misa
  19. Thought I'd post this for all the English celiacs who love to make a good curry. I found a product which clearly listed each actual spice ingredient instead of just writing the common term; spices = hidden gluten??. However to be on the safe side, I sent an enquiry to the English company: H.P. Foods Ltd concerning their product (which thankfully is available...
  20. Sometimes, someone writes something you specially need to hear that day and today for me it was Ian's post. I had one week during my six/seven week now gluten-free were I felt totally content with life, happy, lots of self-esteem and clear-headed. I hadn't felt like that in many years. But then I went back to my old dreary self again...bummer....so reading...
  21. Wow, Rachel, that's great! Received an email from the apple importer and the man who is responsible for my query, returns from holiday in a weeks time....would be good if he answered me/us. Misa

    ARCHIVED Able To Tan

The last couple of weeks we've finally had some sun and this is the first summer in ten years that I have enjoyed without feeling intense burning from the sun rays (never went red or brown though, just pain). Didn't cross my mind until you posted. Don't know if I've tanned, as I've been using fake tanning lotion all along If you do a net search on...
  23. Hi George Could the quick diagnoses be because we have public health (no private health insurance) and so therefore doctors can include the gluten test amongst many others at an early stage........no one will question her/him for this?? Also, allergy symptoms among children in Norway seem to have exploded the last few years. I'm under the impression...
  24. I've sent a query asking about their Granny Smith and apples in general, to the customer service of the importer/distributor (company email adress on the infamous sticker) and it happens to be the leading fruit sales company worldwide......or so they say I hope they take the time to respond....will post it on here. Misa
  25. I wrote in another post about allergies, that after starting to feel better gluten-free I'd suddenly got symptoms again and at the time pinned this down to an apple allergy as this was the week I introduced two Granny Smith apples a day, but now I wonder.......Will test a peeled one instead.....when I get the courage Hiya Richard, no haven't any inside...
