  1. Hi nvsmom, Thanks for getting back to me. My gastro doc seems only interested in doing a colonoscopy. I had one done 8 years ago and nothing was found, but he keeps insisting. It's frustrating. Given my family history you'd think he'd be a little more receptive to the idea of Celiac. In his defense he's the one who ordered the antibody test and...
  2. My gastro doc was unwilling to diagnose me as Celiac. My blood work was negative (he only did the transglutamnase IgA AB) and my biopsy was "indeterminate." He said the villi was only slightly blunted. I've since found out he only did a couple of biopsies. He told me to go gluten free for 4 months, come back to see him, and if I felt better he'd say I...
  3. I knew what you meant. Also I'm not even sure the gamma gobulin was available in '85. Prednisone and splenectomy were the only treatments I ever heard of for ITP. You were allowed to have a mid-wife?!? Geez, when I was pregnant they listed me as high-risk and I had to see all kinds of specialists. My platelets had been in the 400's (thousands...
  4. My ITP was officially diagnosed at 14, but I probably had it much longer than that. At 6 years old I had a tooth pulled and the dentist called my mom in a panic because my mother didn't tell him I was a "bleeder." Apparently the area bled for half an hour or something. When I was 11 I started getting 3 hour nose bleeds. The lowest my platelets were recorded...
  5. Pricklypear thanks for mentioning hypothyroidism. I've had planters for a couple of years now. I could barely walk even with custom orthotics for almost a year. I had to leave me job, as I was a banquet server. It's been pretty good for the last year, but the past couple of months it is flaring up again. Except this time it's in BOTH feet, not just the...
  6. Hi nvsmom, I too had ITP as a teen. I couldn't keep my platelets above 12, 000 without large doses of prednisone. I finally had to beg to have my spleen removed. Since then my platelets have been on the high side of normal. It's so odd. I've never met anyone else with ITP, yet have read about several people on this board having or had it. I've...
  7. ITP has nothing to do with dermatology. It is a blood disorder. You need to be followed by a hematologist or internist. That's, of course, assuming you have ITP and low platelets. Good luck.
  8. By tiny hemorrhages, do you mean petechiae? If it's petechiae you need to get your platelets checked. You might have another (non genetic) autoimmune disease called ITP. ITP would mean you have low platelets, which clot the blood. The spleen sends out antibodies that attack your platelets, destroying them. I had a chronic form of this disease as a teenager...
  9. Hi Gemme, Is your uric acid going up or is the elevated number from a umma (urine methymalonic acid) test? If it's uric acid I have no answer for you. Sorry. If it's the umma that means you have an active b12 and/or folic acid deficiency, even with supplements/injections. Make sure your b12 supplements are METHYLcobalamin (preferably sublingual...
