  1. I may be in the minority but I think that an official diagnosis is important. Not that it's easy to get, given the reluctance and lack of knowledge by the medical community. If at all possible, I would do what I could to have the doctors exhaust all the possibilities to be sure I got the correct diagnosis. I believe that it will make things easier medically...
  2. Thanks Ollie's mom, I feel like a paranoid loon. It's just that everything is always in someone else's hands and you really have to hope they follow through the way you would. But really, how can you believe that, when the doctor himself doesn't really think it could be celiac anyway..... I'm crossing my fingers and toes! Isn't that insane? Wishing...
  3. Kareng, how do you ask for that? Just request it from the doctor? It's almost like screaming "hey buddy, I don't trust you for beans"....... wouldn't that seem so offensive? I know I shouldn't give a crap about offending, but I do want to keep him as a doctor. Even though he hasn't really supported the idea that it's celiac, I have to admit that he at...
  4. Thanks seekingsarah. My bloods were inconclusive because we discovered I'm IgA deficient. I was low ferritin and so along with my other complaints/symptoms, the GI opted to just go in and take a look. I had the colonoscopy and upper endoscopy this week as a result. He just wanted to rule out some things. The issue of celiac was brought up by me, not...
  5. Had my endoscopy today. Didn't see the doctor after the procedure, just woke up in recovery. My report says that it was fine. He did take the biopsies, but I asked the nurse, she looked at my paper and answered "2" when I asked how many samples. She was the recovery room nurse, not the one during the procedure. This was disappointing to hear. Hopefully...
  6. If she eats matzo or any of the many Passover items made with matzo meal, she's eating gluten. Matzo is unleavened, but made with wheat. I think that should be fine. Happy Birthday to your daughter!
  7. When I read all these responses I think ''Thank God! I'm not alone!'. Really, truly, thank you everybody. This is gonna be long, sorry in advance. I have NO intention of taking these meds. I think health care professionals have lost sight of how serious these medications are. It's not like you're taking Tylenol. I'm not saying that they're not...
  8. Thanks everyone. I really just needed to vent. My docotor didn't say I was crazy. She's a very nice doctor and I'm not thinking of replacing her. It's next to impossible to get a doctor at all here and I'm very grateful to have her. In her defense, as I said above, she clearly told me that she isn't saying that I don't have celiac. She just figures that...
  9. I don't even know why I'm writing this. Maybe I'm just as crazy as everyone thinks I am. My son fractured his clavicle in January. He's a kid, they said it would be healed in 6 weeks and that's it, no follow-up required. Return to normal activities (gym, recess, hockey) when he feels ready after that. Well, he's been pain free and fine now for several...
  10. I agree that I could just go gluten-free, but I am hoping this will answer many questions healthwise for my family, including my kids. I know that nobody will take this seriously without an official diagnosis. I'm the family hypochondriac, remember? And how can you really implement such a strict life-altering diet and expect others to be vigilant when...
  11. Really? Cuz I am freaking out about this! The colonoscopy doesn't bother me but the idea of that tube going down my throat...................gagging and choking just thinking about it. I get the impression I won't be able to breathe and will be gasping. Really worries me. Thanks for your help. I will hope for the best - a positive biopsy, then no...
  12. Thank you both for your replies. Beachbirdie, would the IgG test be as accurate? My doctor doesn't think it's celiac. He said IBS originally (what a catch-all for "I have no idea what's wrong"). He ran the IgA test simply because I was insistent that he check me for celiac. At that time I really had no idea about the many different tests that were...
  13. Hi all. New here. I've been reading for almost a year and been on the path to getting a diagnosis. Like everyone else my story is pretty long, and have been dealing with digestive issues since I was a child (over 30 years). I was hospitalized for a couple of weeks when I was 10 because of it. Anyway, over the years I've pretty much been considered a...
