  1. I have an appointment in a few days with a new doctor who seems willing to finally test me for celiac, after 37 years of increasing symptoms. I'm glad to have finally found someone who seems willing to take my concerns seriously, but I've had such bad experiences in that past that I don't know what I'll do if she turns out to be another doctor who won't listen...
  2. I'm in the middle of a similar process, and I think this is a very individual decision, but here is why I decided to get tested: 1) I have a daughter who is almost four, and she is experiencing almost exactly the same symptoms I had as a child. Like so many others, I've had a whole host of really unpleasant and persistent but never-super-serious symptoms...
  3. greenbeanie, I have a lot to ask you... Did you do the HLA B27 blood test? Is your forward bending limited? Is it just one SI joint that hurts? Parts of your story above sounds a lot like mine. But now exercise hurts my si joint. Were you eating bread before your Celiac blood test? My overall forward bending isn't limited, though my neck and...
  4. Thanks - it's good to know I can take the one thing that makes me feel a little better!
  5. Does anyone know if taking probiotics will affect test results? I have a high-quality pre-biotic/pro-biotic mix (gluten-free), and taking it regularly does make me feel a little better. But I will definitely not take it before testing if it would increase the chance of false negatives. Would it have any effect on blood tests? Endoscopy?
  6. Thank you for this thread - this is very interesting! I'd never heard of ankylosing spondylitis before, so unfortunately I don't have any useful information about the effects of diet on it. However, I've had steadily increasing SI joint pain since I was in my early 20's. Two MRI's were normal, seven cortisone shots did not help, and in the last few years...
  7. This forum is such a wonderful source of information! I am so glad to have finally found it, and especially grateful to people who have come back and posted their outcomes later so that others could see how things ended up. I’m having an awful response to a gluten challenge, and I know that many others had the same experience. My question is: does t...
  8. I'm so sorry you've had to go through this, and I feel for the little guy! Unfortunately I don't have any ideas for the diagnosis piece, but for what it's worth I'm totally convinced that it is possible for a baby to be exposed to gluten through breastmilk alone. I'm 37 years old and am currently in the process of getting tested for celiac, at long last....
  9. Thank you both! I've stopped using the cortisone cream for now and will try to make the best of it until I'm tested. I'm sure my allergist will say to definitely take the prednisone pill, even if my other doctor says it's better not to. If necessary, I'll just try to space the testing out as far as possible after my last allergy shot, though I have limited...
  10. I'm new here, but I've been reading this forum for a while. I'm seeing my doctor in two weeks to discuss celiac testing. I'm 37 years old and have had many, many symptoms for my whole life and was given a lot of misinformation whenever I asked previous doctors about celiac or food allergy testing. (One doctor told me that I'd have died as a child if I had...
