  1. I don't know as we haven't even started with being gluten-free yet but this is something I will be watching very closely. (My youngest son has a biopsy coming up and the rest of us are scheduled for blood tests) My oldest son has been diagnosed with Dysgraphia (which is essentially a disconnect between his brain and his hand). His handwriting is horrible...
  2. I'm new here as well and we're just waiting for my son's biopsy and blood tests for the rest of the family. We're in Menasha. I've been looking for a support group or something that would help the kids with the transition. All I've seen are ones in Sheboygan or somewhere further away (can't remember where). So, hello from Menasha!
  3. Thanks ladies. I really needed to get that out. I've been through the newbie thread and it has helped immensely, thanks! Brandywine, I'm sorry for your loss. It took me a full year to get the habit of reaching for the phone to talk to her out of my system. I spoke with her every day. My youngest son was born 5 days after her daughter. I know part of my...
  4. A little info for reference: My best friend passed away 2 years ago. She had been diagnosed with depression, Crohn's, Ulcerative Colitis and IBS. I constantly tried to get her to ask her doctor about going gluten free. She seemed to use her various dx's as a reason to eat really crappy food as the doctors were all telling her that various fruits and veggies...
  5. My little guy (also 6 years old) is just starting this journey toward a diagnosis of Celiac's. He will randomly complain of pains in his arms and legs and occasionally his back. I haven't figured out yet if it is related or not...we haven't gone gluten free yet as his biopsy is scheduled for June 19th. He has older siblings though, that are also going...
  6. Hugs to you. I tend to ramble also when I am stressed about something. I just wanted to make sure I was clear on what you were posting...sometimes what someone gets out of a post and what someone was actually trying to say can be on two different ends of a spectrum. I would definitely get a Celiac test done if you can handle being on gluten long enough...
  7. I will start with this: I know absolutely nothing about eating disorders...so take anything I say with a grain of salt. When you say regurgitate.....is that the same as purposefully throwing up food you've just eaten? Or is it more like acid reflux? Like it comes back up a little bit...but on it's own? I ask because I'm not sure that I was understanding...
  8. Finally got a call from the ped's office this afternoon. Of course it was while I was gone so I'll have to call them back on Monday but at least they finally called. ZB...how scary. I'm trying very, very hard to stay away from the part of this site that talks about all the other things that can also happen with Celiac's. At least until I've actually spoken...
  9. Yeah, the treats for soccer have always bothered me. Now, on tournament days, they made sense. For an hour long game? Not so much. Some popsicles when it's 90 degrees out make sense too...though, those are still super sugary and full of things you don't really need. But seriously...the snack last night was Cheez Its and twizzlers. And he was encouraged to...
  10. Well...talked to the nurse today. She told me that yes, he did have pretty high numbers in the blood test that they did but it isn't conclusive until they do the biopsy...blah..blah...and that yes the doctor will probably have us go gluten free after the biopsy based on his blood tests to see if that helps with his stomach. I now have a call in to both...
  11. I'm pretty new to all this...but from what I've read...with some people the skin care/hygiene items can also expose you to gluten and there can be a pretty good chance of cross contamination with other foods in the house. She may be more sensitive to it and it is probably something no one is even realizing is happening. Hope you can figure out where she...
  12. I am new to this also. My 6 year old son is in the process of being diagnosed. He goes on June 19th for his biopsy. Most likely getting the entire family tested (regardless of symptoms or lack thereof) and after his biopsy our home will be completely gluten free. I just can't imagine making my 6 year old eat different foods from the rest of the family or...
  13. Yes. We are keeping him on gluten. I don't think I've ever felt so bad about what I was giving my child.
  14. First off...a little about us. There's me and DH and we have 3 kids....18, 15 and 6. Only my 6 year old is currently in the process of being tested. He's had the initial blood work that said he is positive for Celiac's and we go in on the 19th of June for his endoscopy/biopsy. We are, obviously, worried and a little aggravated as we have to go 3 hours...
  15. Hugs. We are just learning that we're going to have to start going gluten free, so I honestly know nothing about that aside from the reactions my youngest son is having. That said....I'm kind of lactose intolerant. I can drink milk and eat cheese and yogurt but whatever the process is for making ice cream I get crazy, horrible stomach pains any time I...
  16. I'm new here. My 6 year old is currently undergoing testing for Celiac's. His blood test was positive and we are going for the biopsy on June 19th. That said...those are pretty much the exact symptoms he's been experiencing since January. We had an xray done and he is full of stool and along with that and localized pain in his abdomen we were sent to...
