  1. Jen - Many thanks for your response! I'm about to head to the grocery store now; and later this week have appt. set up with the dietitian. So wild! I'm assuming this can be corrected pretty well...my aunt who also has it was diagnosed 7 years and is doing well (she told me the doctor said "you have no villi left" - she was relieved to just find out what...
  2. Hi guys...many thanks over the weekend for your help. This is AmandaD from Madison, Wis. My doctor just called on the phone to let me know that I'm Celiac for sure ...so now it feels real... She told me my endoscopy showed moderate villi blunting with increased lymphocytes. Anybody know what that means? She sort of explained it as there's mild stuff...
  3. Hi Lisa - I'm new to this board with 3 little ones. I was just diagnosed myself. Considering having the kids tested...can I ask if yours were symptomatic? Or did you have the test done because you came up celiac? Many thanks - AmandaD
  4. Jennifer - Thanks so much for that info. Fun being a mom, isn't it? I've got three little ones under the age of 5 and I'm seriously considering having them tested (although they don't seem to be symptomatic yet). Boy, I bet it was empowering finding out what he had and knowing you can actually do something about it. You used the word "foreign" - that...
  5. Kaiti - This is such a silly question ... but will I really "heal"? This whole condition is so odd to me. Does the villi actually normalize again? My great aunt who was diagnosed about 7 years ago said it was a matter of weeks and she - who'd had a severe case of anemia - actually gained weight and the doctor was happy. I've started eating gluten free...
  6. Hi - AmandaD again in Wisconsin. I have never had a lot of celiac-type symptoms (just minor "upset tummy" situation) and I'm wondering how I'll feel as I begin the gluten-free diet. Is it an amazing transition? Do things get worse before they get better? Is there an adjustment period? Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Thank you so much - my gastro mentioned that the Madison Chapter is very active...and my great aunt (who's also a celiac) mentioned that the support groups are the best place to get info and recipes. I went to Whole Foods last night - they actually have a concierge who walks you through the whole store. My husband and I actually live down here in Evansville...

I work, so occasionally I need to wear make-up - I looked up the Bare E. line - it looks like a great one ... ...by the way, since finding out last night...I just found out there's a line of family members on my father's side that have this...I talked to one of my aunts who explained how it's an adjustment but that it's do-able - whew

Thanks for your response! I'm wondering, do you, or anyone on this board, know if there is a place where you can buy gluten-free make-up like eyeliner, concealer, blush, etc.? I've seen the gluten free savonnerie, but not a store with make-up? -Amanda

You sound like me ). I was just sort of stunned by the whole thing, but my gastro is pretty much like "hey, amanda, you can deal with this through diet, no big deal" so that has made me a little more calm...even though I've been a gluten QUEEN for the last 29 years... I just sat around and stared at my kitchen today, even my beauty products wondering...

I figured I should be concerned...but my husband seems to think it's going overboard - although the handouts I read from the hospital clearly talked about cross-contamination... frustrating... I have a pretty good gastroenterologist (at least I feel good about her because she dx-ed the celiac instead of just telling me it was ibs...) I've heard from...

Sorry about that - just learning how to reply (eek!) Your message makes me feel better already. This diagnosis was a big surpise after dozens after tests the only one that came out funky was the celiac one - shocker ). I have a husband and 3 littles ones (under 5) who are all going to have to make some major adjustments as well. I will definitely...

Hi, My name is Amanda in Madison, Wis. I'm 29 and was just diagnosed with celiac today via endoscopy (guess it showed abnormal villi consistent with celiac and I had a positive TTG test)....I am so new to this. Is celiac a super-scary diagnosis or is it something that's really manageable? Any good, positive advice would be sooo appreciated. Thanks.
