  1. Hi - I'm a newly diagnosed Celiac who has been treated/diagnosed at the UW Hospital in Wisconsin - It's one of the leading gastroenterology departments in the country. a) The TTG antibody blood test detects Celiac about 98 percent of the time. It's highly accurate (I think your doctor doesn't understand that actually this test...I think it's been developed...
  2. Hi - I've heard good things about things like green tea and black tea, full of antioxidants, cancer fighters, etc...Does anyone know anything about the benefits of tea drinking as they relate to Celiac disease (and it's herbal tea with barley malt in it that we're not supposed to drink, correct? But straight black or green is fine...?) Anyways, just wondering...
  3. Could someone tell me if all yoplait yogurt is okay to eat...I bought raspberry flavored regular yoplait and strawberry-banana and I just want to make sure...? Also, is Aunt Jemima original syrup okay to eat? Many thanks! Amanda

    ARCHIVED Skin Care

I threw out all my stuff too..basically because I wasn't sure what was what at the time. I found a terrific shampoo/conditioner and soap place on line...it's the gluten free savonnierie (www.gfsoap.com) and their stuff is absolutely wonderful - smells light and is very good for sensitive skin. I also ordered bare escentuals make-up and I actually like...
  5. Gotcha. I've read about 2 or 3 books on this condition (well, actually just skimmed...) and I feel like I'm back in college and about to have a test on it...Erg....
  6. My husband and three kids have done the same. It's a Godsend - I don't know how I'd cook two different meals all the time, anyway!!! Congrats...on converting him.
  7. All right. Could somebody help me understand this. Since I now have Celiac disease, does it actually mean that all the "associated" conditions will happen as well? Like thyroid conditions, etc...etc... I'm so confused. Two weeks in and I'm still floundering! I tell ya...AmandaD
  8. I actually have a followup with my doctor in October and she said that at that time they wanted to check my levels of A,D,E, and K because those are the ones that kind of get swept easily through a Celiac's small intestine. I know that some doctors in some parts do and some don't. I'm here at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and their gastro department...
  9. Did it take you all long to get in to have it done? Was it a long wait (as far as scheduling at your hospitals was concerned...)?
  10. Many thanks for the info! I think the bone scan's a really good idea - particularly with my family history - if I can prevent osteoporosis now that'd be nice (I'm 29 now)...good to hear it's painless... As for the vitamin deficiencies, I'm sort of intrigued to see what those will tell me. I've been pregnant or nursing a kid for so long I'm sort of assuming...
  11. Yes, I go back in a few weeks and they do blood tests particularly for D deficiency (all of my aunts and grandma's have osteoporosis (one of these aunts also has celiac) - many of them take supplements for it...I remember grandma actually giving herself shots! Ick!) Have you had your blood tests done - curious to know, did any deficiencies actually really...
  12. All right. I posted earlier about my doctor being a dolt and not having seen a "sprue" in 30 years. He told me I needed to be supplementing and so I called my gastroenterologist. (The gastro doctor is so much more knowledgeable...whew...) She explained that I need to make sure I'm eating dairy (which is hard isn't it? because i'm a bit dairy intolerant...
  13. Thank you for that advice. I think I'm going to hang on tight to my gastroenterologist and only discuss Celiac with her. After that appt. and post I called my gastro office and left a message with the nurse about what my g.p. had said. The nurse said she didn't know exact amounts of supplementation and that she'd call me back. This doctor said he hadn...
  14. Hi again - Just returned from a regular general practitioner appointment where we we discussing my new Celiac status. I made mention that I'm feeling quite anxious about the whole process and that it's quite a life change. I also mentioned I'd been feeling like my muscles were twitching or that I would try to relax and I feel all trembly...like I was either...
  15. Unreal. I'm also a breastfeeding mom - predx'ed I breastfed my daughter for a year and a half and my son for a year. i've been breastfeeding my newest daughter (age 1) and found out last week that i have celiac. i would totally keep breastfeeding, i still do because i've heard it can completely delay or prevent celiac disease.
  16. Just today I bought some children's chewables (raspberry) from Freeda. They have a completely gluten-free line. The kids loved them and they're easily absorbale for individuals with Celiac.
  17. I was wondering if any of you lead me to any good hair gels or mousse's that would be safe to use on my short hair (for styling)? Many thanks (I already use gluten-free savonnierie shampoo/conditioner and lotion - I have really sensitive skin). Thank you!
  18. I think you were smart to do that. I have a 5, 3 and 1 year old and am contemplating having them tested soon. I was just diagnosed myself last week. NOne of them really have any classic symptoms....My doctor told me the ttg test is incredibly accurate.
  19. I was told to try Freeda vitamins. The whole line is gluten,etc-free. They can be ordered on line. (I guess they're easier to digest for people who have celiac)...
  20. KaitiUSA or anyone who knows - How do I access the Delphi List, again? You wouldn't believe this - but I just went to Whole Foods and I have a booklet my support group leader gave me to start shopping with...I LEFT THE LIST ON THE TOP OF THE CAR WHILE I WAS PUTTING THE KIDS IN AND DROVE OFF! (I'll search for "delphi" on the board) Is "losing it" one...
  21. Hi - I need to head to Whole Foods shortly...can someone tell me what brands of vanilla extract are okay to use (that are gluten free)...also what types of cleaning products can I use? Is Seventh Generation stuff okay? Are there certain brands of sugar or chocolate chips I need to use? I'm obviously going to bake cookies
  22. I felt the same way...it's because it's such a massive life change, don't you think? (I was just diagnosed this past Tuesday...) I just went to the grocery store for the first time after my dietary appointment. It took me THREE HOURS TO SHOP with this booklet I was given. I even had to make a call to a manufacturer while I was there... How old are...
  23. thanks Tiffany that makes a lot of sense.... - i must ask, is that actually you in that picture? how old are you? i'm 29 and i haven't been that flexible since I was a kid!!!!
  24. Hi there - I met with my registered dietitian today. She was a very nice lady, but basically handed me a packet and admitted that she didn't work with a ton of celiacs. She was clear on some science about the condition - she explained I need to have a "zero tolerance" policy when it comes to gluten...and was clear on the fact that I could live a very healthy...
  25. Jen - Your reply is much appreciated. I had very few symptoms...my doctor called it an incidental finding although I'm thinking maybe what I was having were actually "symptoms"...I reacted to a food product called lecithin that I was taking for plugged ducts while breastfeeding (I couldn't stop going to the loo after taking the supplement!) I went to my...
