ARCHIVED Nana's No Gluten Cookie Bars
AmandaD replied to pumpkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay...maybe weird conincidence but I recently (last week) ate a nana's cocoa one and my kids had the non-gluten-free ones and i got stomach troubles on Sunday and they seem to be slowing down today. I was wondering if just the smell and coming in contact with the non-gluten-free nana's ones made me sick. -
You also have Celiac too, right?
-
Thanks for the response Vincent...do you mean your son's ped gi wants to do follow-up testing or the actual celiac test? he's already been diagnosed, right? Woops! I see you mean the follow-up...

ARCHIVED Question About Abdominal Noise
AmandaD replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
3 weeks ago - you're just a celiac baby! I was diagnosed in september by biopsy and ttg. it was like i didn't have stomach problems one day and then bam...poop! I still get glutened occasionally but in general the stomach stuff is calming down nicely. i also have some low vitamin d going on and my doc is trying to get me out in the sun every day )...i'm... -
All right...so I know this is the millionth time I've written about this. Have any of you who've been diagnosed by your doc with Celiac, gone through a re-check and seen how you're responding...by this I mean getting the TTG done again and then comparing it with your first test. I'm waiting for mine to come back and I'd like to know if people have seen...

ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread
AmandaD replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes - they come out soft - which was huge for me. When I was first diagnosed my doc sent me to the house of the support group leader here and she actually showed me the bread she made and also had me taste it right out of the bread maker. It was like "okay, i can live with this condition." i have an old breadman that i use and i make all gluten-free bread... -
ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread
AmandaD replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Rachel - Get a breadmaker. And then use egg replacer - for dairy free bread I usually replace it with almond milk...I'm slowly getting over my lactose intolerance so I'm starting to put milk in stuff again. Ask for it from your parents, if you can. I'm 30 with my own kids and husband - and I asked for a big KitchenAid mixer and they came through... I... -
ARCHIVED Question About Abdominal Noise
AmandaD replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi odcdinah - I'm new to celiac myself (just diagnosed by biopsy in Sept) and I recently got glutened and had a little intolerance to dairy at the same time...and experienced the same weird grumbly noises. Very common, from what I understand. How old are you? How did you find out you had Celiac? I'm sure it's been as weird a journey for you as it has... -
ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread
AmandaD replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Rachel - If you would ever consider investing in a bread machine, go for it... I have one - (I actually got it as a gift) and it has saved me gazillions of bucks on pre-made bread. (I have a family of 5 I cook for and we don't allow regular bread in the house...just the kind I make)...It tastes delicious and if you were ever to get a machine, email me... -
ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread

Rachel - Do you use a breadmaker or just standard oven? I make loaves of Montina bread and they come out excellent - but I could only do it in a breadmaker.... -
ARCHIVED Tea Drinkers...uk, Maybe?
AmandaD posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi - Anyone from the UK out there? I just recently bought Yorkshire Gold loose leaf tea...I'm a huge tea drinker. Does anyone know if this brand is gluten free? There are no bags involved with this one. I've contacted the company, but they're overseas and not sure if I'll get a response. Are generally all straight black and green loose leaf teas usually... -
I've heard that before - that they add chemicals to the farm raised to keep the coloring...

Interesting. I love both salmon and adore shrimp....guess who's going to stock up on those today? Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Ok - so my doc is having me take 400 IU's twice a day. Is that just simply way too low? Hmmmm....what do you think?
-
Is the supplement gross? Any suggestions on a brand...I'm willing to take a chance!

Anyone else here know that at one point they have or have had low Vitamin D? And, what did you do about it?

ARCHIVED My Vitamin Retest...
AmandaD replied to AmandaD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My doc told me that until a celiac is fully recovered vitamin D just simply can't be absorbed - even liquid - so that 20 minutes in the sun (I live in Wisconsin) is goign to be really important. I did it today. And then took a nap. -
Yes. My mom had the same thing happen when she had her first colonoscopy- she had to have a barium done right after the colonoscopy - nothing was wrong with her just that her colon had a sharp turn at the very end of it. She was ticked she had to go through the barium x-ray...

ARCHIVED My Vitamin Retest...
AmandaD posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi...I'm such a dork about this I know...but I got my retest for my vitamin D levels - before I was at what the doc called a 23 - which is on the low side. The retest - now 6 months after my diagnosis - is now a 25. They said I'm now in the low normal range. Normal seems to be somewhere between 25 and 80! Do you guys think that I'm absorbing better.... -
ARCHIVED Hams For Easter
AmandaD replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Boar's Head has an excellent holiday ham I get at our local Italian deli. -
Tapering off antidepressants can be weird...I remember at one point when I was getting off my meds I felt like I had he flu and my eyesight and neck felt funny. But I did do it successfully, so you can too. The key is to go super, super slow...and then when you're off totally for about 3 to 4 days I'd suggest taking a break from work, resting and drinking...

For those of you who answered I had a nice re-check today with my doc. She got another Vitamin D level from me and then also re-did the TTG bloodtest to check my "compliance" with the diet. My question is - my level was 10 last time - normal for this test is anywhere between 0 and 7 - now that I've been on the diet will the level actually go into the ...
-
Jessica - I'm looking at your signature - jeesh - you had to go through 2 biopsies? That sucks! And they ended up diagnosing you because of your bloodwork? What were your levels - was it the TTG...that sounds like quite an experience!!!!!!!!!
-
Thanks Guys. Actually an endoscopy doesn't sound so bad. 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep with noone screaming for milk or a diaper...if you know what I mean...
-
Hi again, All right - so tomorrow's my 6-month re-check. My D has left me and I seem to be doing fine. What should I be talking to about with the doctor tomorrow? Do I have to have more tests? I'm kind of nervous - I keep having this image of them pulling out a "surprise" endoscopy tomorrow while I'm sitting there...hee, hee... Amanda
