  1. I have Celiac...I use Canidae dry dog food for all ages and I give the dogs "Bear" treats (they have salmon meal in them)....neither of these contain gluten grains. You can look these up on the web. AmandaD
  2. Leah, glad to hear you agree...I swear when I was in my early celiac stages (just diagnosed) I couldn't tolerate coffee - but now for some reason I swear it helps break down my food better. Maybe it's because it's so acidic... WEIRD...
  3. Hi guys - Hope you're all doing peachy. Here's a question...for any of you coffee drinkers, do you feel that coffee after a meal seems to improve your digestion? I'm finding this seems to be true for me and I'm wondering if any of you would agree or know if there's research out there to prove it (I swear I thought it wasn't good for your digestion, but...
  4. Becky - That surprises me that she was positive on the TTG but neg on the endoscopy - just double check with the doctor that they took enough samples of the tissue... What exactly are they ultrasound-ing? And, have they double-checked for other auto-immune-like conditions? Don't freak out...it may take a while to get to the bottom of what she's got...
  5. Becky - My TTG from my doc's office came out at 10.5 - which she considered positive, did an endoscopy and saw celiac damage. After doing the diet for about 6 months I am back at a normal level which is 2.3. Any questions feel free to email me.
  6. Dear Amanda, Thank you for contacting Bare Escentuals. All bareMinerals products are gluten free. This includes bareMinerals foundation, all over face colors, blushes, eye shadows, glimmers, glimpses, liner shadows, brow minerals and body minerals. Many of our i.d. Bare Escentuals products are also gluten free, including lip sticks, lip liners...
  7. Thanks Ursula...I sort of thought that in the back of my head - oh my gosh do onions bug the CRAP out of my stomach...ERG. Sometimes this celiac thing seriously frustrates me
  8. Hi - I'm officially about 9 months out from my diagnosis last year. All the nasty D is gone, and I've had the TTG again that says I'm complying with the diet great. My question is: I've noticed that since I've been "getting better" foods seem to bother me that never did before...like milk, garlic and onions, if I drink a lot of caffeine...etc. Sometimes I...
  9. I called the Minute Maid Company when I was initially diagnosed. They said they could ONLY guarantee that their 100 percent Orange Juice product was the only one that was gluten free...the other flavors and the ones with added vitamins, etc., in them could potentially contain gluten, she said.
  10. Hi - I just talked with Wyeth (Centrum makers) and their regular adult vitamin, the "performance", the "silver" and the liquid vitamin - they're all Gluten FRee. Their chewables and their kids vitamins DO have gluten in them.
  11. That's very, very cool Jen - you give me hope for when I have my follow-up biopsy. If I were you I'd just call the doc and have them reiterate what it meant...but sounds like you're doing terrific!
  12. To add, my doc also saw "scalloping folds of duodenum" - and that is also characteristic of Celiac and could be seen with the naked eye, the villous atrophy they can't see...
  13. Marcia - My ttg bloodtest came out to just 10.5 and the doc was not totally certain I had celiac, she thought it might be stress. But sure enough when they did the biopsy - where they took TONS of samples from different places in the duodenum and jejunum (make sure they do this with you too)...they actually found the very beginning of Celiac...so my doc actually...
  14. Elaine - My name is Amanda, I'm 30 and live over here in Evansville - just about 20 minutes south of Madison, Wis. My husband's family lives in Milwaukee. I also have a couple of cousins who live and go to school at the UW there. I was diagnosed with Celiac this past September...feel free to ask anything (my doc is over here at the Univ of Wis hospital...
  15. Mark - My doc at my hospital only relies on the TTG - she said that is the most specific you can possibly get for Celiac. She said the other antibodies are too confusing and can mean other things. It looks like your TTG was well within normal.
  16. Aren't the newman's fig bars just wheat free - I don't think they're gluten free. I remember seeing they have barley, oats, etc. in them..?
  17. wolfie - I think it could be really important that you do follow up with a g.i. and have yourself accurately tested and biopsied. Celiac is not something to play around with - that's why it's important to get it diagnosed by a g.i. doctor. That g.i. doctor can then make sure your children are tested. This is the experience I had with our pediatrician and...
  18. I ordered several of the pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving this year (outrageously expensive) and my parents almost vomited after tasting it... It was pretty nasty - I almost called and complained...The chocolate mousse was grainy and pretty rich. I'd suggest making your own with the gluten-free pantry crust mix - a hundred times better.
  19. After I was diagnosed in September I had a 6 month followup where they took my vitamin D level, did a dexa bone scan, and did another TTG to see how I was responding to the diet. I am now supposed to see my G.I. doctor once a year for the rest of my life - where they will run the TTG and vitamin levels and blood counts to make sure I'm avoiding osteoporosis...
  20. Armetta- If that's how your doctor really acted that was rough...but he/she may have also been in a position where they were trying to help you understand that it may be a stress related thing, or something simpler than celiac. Doctors are trained to look for horses and not zebras. I would go ahead with the gluten challenge, get the biopsy and get a firm...
  21. Funny, I've noticed more cramps and lot more bleeding...seems like my body is trying to regulate itself. I've been going anywhere from getting them 21 days to 25 days...It's been intriguing to watch my periods get more normal... I never had normal periods before...
  22. Awesome Jenvan - now that it's been negative - do you ever get the old symptoms any more? Curious...
  23. Thank you guys...I told my family and they were all like "that's nice" ERG...and then offered me some wheat bread since they thought I didn't "have celiac" anymore.
  24. Okay! So! My doc called today to tell me that my follow-up TTG is now negative...she said to rejoice. I'm assuming this means I'm doing good on the diet...anyone else, could you translate?
