  1. Feeling depressed isn't unusual when your body isn't absorbing nutrients as well as it should. You've just got to remind yourself that things will probably improve in time, as you adjust to the condition. You should probably get your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist. Anemia is a fairly common effect of Celiac disease, if I'm not mistaken, and...
  2. I've been making good gains in muscular strength over the past two months and my energy levels have improved. The key for me is just to consume food in bulk (I've always had a high metabolism, mind you), and work out 4-5 times a week with high-intensity lifting. I'll drink Gatorade, but for food I don't go for any gluten-free energy bars. For me, it's...
  3. I'd have to agree. I've used them before without any problems.
  4. Yeast infection talk is probably for the realm of the women here on the board, but... There definitely appears to be a lot of skepticism in the medical community about this kind of thing. Perhaps it's an old wive's tale, but I don't see how eating yogurt/taking Probiotics for a while could do any harm. Lactobacillus acidophilus certainly shouldn't do you...
  5. I'm not what you'd call an "old schooler", but I have the understanding that, once on a totally gluten-free diet, after 2-3 weeks things pick up and Celiac symptoms fade away. It can take up to more than a year for villi in your intestine to recover, though. Side effects like a decreased tolerance for lactose can present themselves, due to the damaged villi...
  6. I know how you feel. I get in the mood for hazelnut coffee from time to time, but am afraid of risking it. The bags of beans usually say "natural flavoring", which turns me away. For now, I'm sticking with 100% Colombian, which is pretty good stuff. To be honest, It just hasn't been enough of a problem for me to go to the trouble of calling 8 O'Clock...
  7. Hi all, Does anyone with Celiac disease have problems digesting fats (at least in the first year)? Why I ask this question: I've gone gluten-free in the past year. Last exposure (accidental, of course) was about 5 weeks ago. It was an exposure to 3-4 protein shakes (malted, but not on label!) that did a real number on me. I don't have the...
  8. I agree. I'm 6'1" and 175lbs. I don't look like a skeleton but I look skinny. Edit: I've always had a high metabolism. Gaining weight beyond 175-180lbs takes a lot of food and a lot of weight-lifting. If I'm not careful, I easily slip to 165lbs or so.
  9. haha Thanks for the support (and the poem). I'm definitely determined to fight this disease. What I like about the Immodium AD is that it is really potent; one dose covers me for a good 48 hours or longer. Still, hopefully I won't have to use the stuff for too much longer.
  10. Thanks for the replies. I'll try that.
  11. Hi everyone. I've been a lurker here for a while, but had to post so I registered earlier tonight. I had celiac-like symptoms starting in freshman year of college (the year after a prolonged period of antibiotic use, and around the time I think I got hit with mono....go figure). The symptoms slowly got worse until I decided to go on a gluten-free diet...
