ARCHIVED I Have So Many Questions
ItchyAbby replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks Squirmy! *restrained happy dance* There are lingering hotspots here and there, and my sacrum/top buttcrack still itches quite a bit, even though it looks less inflamed. But the itch is different: it's an annoying itch for sure, but more like a "normal" itch, not the "OHMYGODI'MGOINGTODIEFROMITCH" itch that leaves me gasping for breath. I still... -

(((BIG HUG))) Nothing to see here folks. Just a fading rash. Pretty boring really... (I say it's not getting worse now. That seems positive, true and not at all likely to jinx) -

Annnd, now it's flared up again. WTF?! I am NEVER saying it's getting better again. EVER. It really does seem like every time I do, it flares up. You are so right, Prickly - it really is one day at a time and I need to look at it as a big picture rather than the individual moments. Overall it's still much better than it was at it's worst, in the beginning... -

This is what I have been noticing too! I feel more inspired than I have in a long time and slightly more energetic. (Been gluten free for 2 months) I wish you continued clarity and healing! -
ARCHIVED Hi...(Recently Diagnosed)
ItchyAbby replied to bellalunarena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Bella, I have recently been diagnosed too, though with Dermatitis herpetiformis. And I have been going through many different emotional permutations as well: sometimes I am just thrilled to know my torturer's name and weakness, and then I find myself mourning the fact that I will never eat a real croissant/bagel or dim sum again. Sadness, anxiety, fear... -

Oh and cashew milk. I follow this recipe, but leave out the last four ingredients (flavorings), even though they sound delicious. I leave them out so it's as neutral as possible. That way it can be used in savory and sweet recipes and won't flavor my tea too much. (But man, I bet vanilla, maple syrup and cinnamon would be good! Maybe I will make one bath... -

Thanks for the websites! I am using the recipes out of Ball's Complete Book of Home Preserving - the essential canning book! I also have one called Food in jars, which focuses on small batch canning. I look for the lowest sugar recipes. The one I am going to try next out of Ball's is their Deli Dills (no sugar) which is really similar to this recipe:... -

Hello, lovely people of DermHerpFo. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind responses. I have stayed away for a couple of days just trying to get my s$#& together. And I have been working hard to redirect my attention away from the rash as much as possible (which seems nearly impossible at times). I signed up for a dress sewing class, I have been... -

Hey you two, I found a recipe for soy free, egg free mayo: Open Original Shared Link Did I mention that I am obsessed with making my own condiments? I've made ketchup (in the crockpot, honey sweetened, kosher salt) and horseradish (easy as pie, jsut don't stick your head over the food processor and take a big whiff when it's whirring - you'll be blind... -

I am not sure if anyone is still reading this topic, so I may be talking to myself here. Today was a rough day. The rash has re-flared and spread a bit, though no where near as bad as it was at it worst. This time it's on my lats, just below my armpits and on my lower back/upper butt crack (these are areas where it has always been before and kind of where... -

I got my Enterolabs tests back! Two key points that it showed: "The level of intestinal anti-gliadin IgA antibody was elevated, indicative of active dietary gluten sensitivity" (My levels were 27 units, where the normal range is less than 10 units) "Although you do not possess one of the HLA-DQB1 genes predisposing to celiac disease (HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ... -

Just an update: My new physician is great. I like her a lot and feel that she is on my side (though she has a lot of catching up to do). I got my fasting blood work back and everything looks good, like really good. She wrote "Normal electrolytes, glucose, kidney and liver tests and very good cholesterol. Your thyroid and inflammatory markers are normal, and... -

Hi Simone! I am also currently doing a low iodine diet, so if you want to share concerns and recipes, let me know. I have been pretty obsessive about my diet lately, trying to get to the bottom of this rash. The one thing I think has really helped is daily journaling - I write down EVERYTHING I eat, in great detail. And like Prickly said, watch out for... -

Ok, practicing patience. The left lat that just flared up yesterday is already significantly less inflamed and itchy! It's a new thing to have them clear up so quickly. I usually freak out a little when something new flares because it means many days of discomfort and untold amounts of spreading. Patience. Patience. I am healing. I have been reluctant to... -

Things still seem to be improving but it's weird - each area will have browned completely and be drying up nicely and then have a small reflare. Every few days it's a new area, so as one dies down another is just starting. Two days ago, it was the right side path on my tummy. That calmed down by yesterday. This morning I woke up with a few bumps on my left... -

PSST! I don't want to jinx it, but the rash looks soooo much better today - browning, less inflammation all around, scabbing and the itch has been relatively bearable. I am kind of giddy, but trying to be calm and realistic. The idea of possibly being able to sleep more than two hours at a stretch is too too exciting. LI is challenging, Gluten free is... -

So, some areas seem to been healing up nicely, but my lower back is flaring really badly today. ARGH! So itchy. It's the hardest area for me to resist scratching for some reason. I am sitting against a huge ice pack right now. It was healing up and approaching the brown splotchy phase up until two days ago, having shed the majority of it's flakes and scabs... -

I hear ya on begrudging the lack of milk and eggs. So do you eat eggs at all now? I love eggs and the idea of never being able to eat a creamy duck egg yolk again is sad. I will probably introduce ice cream first, though. I will miss that the most! And salmon - the way you feel about shrimp is how I feel about salmon! (which I happen to love best when served... -

Thank you Prickly! Re: Low iodine. Would you explain a little more about what you mean by "hard core"? I have pored over the THYCA list of foods to avoid, and I have also looked at some other lists. Some say to avoid rice, celery and bananas, some don't. Some say peeled potatoes are fine, some don't. I see that you only reintroduced peeled potatoes after... -

The past two days have been really hard. The rash was the worst it's ever been and I was stressing about finding a new PCP. I was so annoyed with the guy they gave me, it was all-consuming. What an arrogant prick! But then trying to negotiate finding someone knew and hoping that they would listen to me, really listen and be open minded? It all felt so impossible... -

Thank you both so much, Squirmy and Prickly. This whole thing has been such an emotional hurricane. Some days I feel good and strong and others, I just fall apart and cry and cry on my sweetheart's shoulder. For the first few months of this year, I kept saying how "gross" and "like a leper" I felt - I have banished that language and focused on being more... -

Oh! I just remembered another question: Have any of you lost hair or had weird hair growth patterns? About 2 year ago I tried to grow out my hair. Most of it got longer (though it seemed to take forever) but the area around my crown did not seem to grow or grew very slowly, or possibly the hair fell out when it got to a certain length. Basically, I have this... -

Goodness, I am so overwhelmed again. Two years? Does that mean that I will keep having three weeks out of every month of rash hell? I want to cry. I know that this is not a quick process, but I don't know how the handle the idea that this will continue to disrupt my life so significantly for another couple of years. This has messed with my life and my sanity... -

Really? Does your rash show up on your torso, too? The derms keep saying that it is typically on the elbows and knees (and typically on men). I keep telling them "I've never been typical". Hehe. Thank you for your advice. I plan to stay gluten free. I plan to not go out to eat for quite a while, so I can control my diet. I started low iodine just this... -

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, Squrimy! And for all this useful info! I am kind of ecstatic to have found this board and other people that know what I am going through. I will probably talk your ears off for a bit - I have so much to say and ask! I have pored over the links you posted and they have been so helpful. Ok, to answer your questions...
